Biden news: Why no one should vote for Joe Biden

Every once in awhile we can see someone poke her or his head into a Facebook group of which I'm a member, to offer up the Joe Biden talking points. At some point they are made to go away by the group administrator. But making them go away from a little Facebook group isn't really a solution to anything, so this diary has become necessary. My assumption that "this stuff should be obvious" appears to have been borne out only by the circle of those who are already in political solidarity with me, and that is a much smaller circle than that of my friends.

In posting this diary, I recognize that I am repeating arguments that I have made elsewhere. But this diary has to happen anyway, because the arguments have to be put in one place so as to increase their persuasive powers.

Yesterday Reuters published the results of a poll in this year's Presidential race:

The nationwide poll of 1,250 U.S. adults showed Trump leading Biden 40% to 34% with the rest unsure or planning to vote for someone else or no one. The poll had a margin of error of three percentage points.

This is a really depressing poll. It's not depressing because Trump is winning, but, rather, because 34% of the public still doesn't get it.

Perhaps it will help that the International Court of Justice recommended that Israel not commit acts of genocide. Which of course means that Israel is doing just that at this time, and so Joe Biden is being caught aiding and abetting genocide.

So, if you're a Biden voter, you're going to vote for a principal accomplice to genocide. How is anyone to take you seriously on anything you say? It will automatically be negated by how you voted.

Maybe you have concerns about Biden but are willing to vote for him anyway? That puts you in the same boat as a significant number of Biden staffers.

WE'RE NEXT

Let's review how it got this way. Israel is a US proxy regime. The current government of Israel wants the residents of Gaza gone, either out of the country or slaughtered en masse. The current leader of Israel owes the fact that he's not in prison to the perpetuation of the current state of conflict. Joe Biden is willing to give him what he wants regardless of his behavior.

This, then, is why Joe must go. Joe already tried this sort of mass-slaughter-through-proxy thing in Ukraine, and, what, a few hundred thousand dead bodies later, they're giving up? What Team Biden really wants, then, are bigger wins with higher death tolls. Provoking nuclear war is fine and dandy with these people -- it's a good thing that it's not fine and dandy with the Russians.

BUT OMIGOD TRUMP

Yeah, all that stuff about Trump.

Seriously -- if these people believed what they were saying, they wouldn't be running a candidate as unconvincing as Joe Biden against Donald Trump. I'm so terrified that we're going to have a President again who will be spending most of his time eating junk food and playing golf. Trump is an asshole, to be sure. But he doesn't like multiple wars, for the stupid reason that if he had them he wouldn't be able to f*ck off for the requisite number of hours each day. It really sucks that they're making him, Trump, into the alternative to Biden. But gosh, Batman, isn't there something we can do? Well, there's RFK Junior, Jill Stein, and Cornel West to vote for.

BUT OMIGOD NIKKI HALEY!

Yeah, Nikki Haley sucks. But let's be clear: Nikki Haley is a creature of billionaires, Democratic Party billionaires, the same bunch who don't want Trump to be the Republican nominee. Jimmy Dore again:

This is why she won't win.

THE ABORTION RIGHTS PITCH

Let's be clear. Dobbs made abortion rights the province of the states. The Dems have had dozens of opportunities to codify Roe v. Wade, and refused all of them. Are Biden and Trump running for a state office? No. Therefore abortion rights have nothing to do with whomever is President.

THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WON'T ABANDON BIDEN

My argument here is aimed at all of the Democratic Party tribalists reading this post. So you vote Blue no matter who, and this is your excuse for voting for Biden. One thing to note here is that there are plenty of people within the Democratic Party who would make better Presidents than Joe Biden, and there are plenty of people who want Joe to step aside, but they're not running out of deference to the party apparatus, which won't abandon Biden at this time. Here it must be added: one of the reasons the party apparatus won't abandon Biden at this time is that there is still too much of the voting public willing to vote for Biden. That means you, vote Blue no matter who voters. You are in the way. Stop! Get out of the way.

ABANDON BIDEN

There are, if DuckDuckGo is to be believed, a number of news headlines about Muslim leaders in Michigan willing to abandon Biden. Where is their formal organization? It's time to create one, and for it to start buying up the appropriate domain names.

The Democratic Party doesn’t care about winning elections, it cares about making sure the oligarchs who own it are able to continue ruling over the deliberately impoverished and politically impotent masses. That is its job. That is its function.

@thanatokephaloides The question at hand is one of why a third of the American voting public is willing to buy into garbage like "Oh, sure, he's an accomplice to genocide and has therefore destroyed America's credibility around the world for decades to come, but abortion or Trump or something." That third needs to shrink, and fast.

Support to Ukraine against Russian aggression, including weapons and humanitarian aid

500,000 dead bodies and two idiotic "counter-offensives" later, Ukraine about to collapse.

Strengthened NATO, G7, and other alliances

Completed the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

The one begun by that "dangerous madman" Donald Trump.

Significant action to curb Chinese threats to U.S. national security and economic interests

But they think that it’s Russia who lost most of their troops because they have run out of missiles, are drunk on vodka and have to loot washing machines for chips to build weapons. Seriously they believe that even though our astronauts need to hitch a ride to the space station in rockets built from washing machines…lol. I’d love to ask them about that.

And instead of being against the massive amount of money going to the military like they used to be, they are mad that republicans are holding up money for Ukraine, but they are also behind Obama’s pivot to Asia and support our money going to Taiwan and are even leaning towards a war with Iran. They were pissed that Trump left the troops in Syria to steal the oil, but not at Biden for doing the same. And kos told them that people die in wars so don’t get upset with how many Palestinians are being killed. Collateral damage you see…or bug splat as kos once said.

Looks like democrats have finally screwed the pooch for the last time after screwing the pooch since Clinton.

https://inthesetimes.com/article/muslims-palestinians-vote-biden-2024-el...

Obama went on to further Bush’s wars, bomb more Muslim-majority countries than Bush, and kill countless more Muslims. The horrifying “double-tap” policy for the U.S. drone program was also employed under his watch as he expanded airstrikes in Muslim-majority countries. That approach is when after a drone is ordered to fire, they wait a period of time and fire again — often after first responders have arrived — seeking to kill not just their first target, but also those in the target’s vicinity. ( Don’t forget his 'kill list' Tuesdays when he even killed an American Muslim without due process) I voted for Obama again in 2012. I even went to Nevada and knocked on doors for him, yet again. Lesser of two evils, right?

Wrong. I am done voting for the lesser of two evils. I will not vote for Joe Biden in 2024.

Democrats have long taken Muslim voters for granted, and many Muslim voters have voted for Democrats because they see those candidates as the lesser of two evils. "Lesser of two evils? I don’t know, genocide is pretty evil," Saqib Bhatti writes. "I may, in fact, organize against him if a viable alternative who’s willing to stand up against Islamophobia throws their hat in the ring."

The man who offered his “rock solid and unwavering” support to Israel’s genocide of two million Palestinians in Gaza will not get my vote.

The man whose administration circulated memos prohibiting staffers around the world from calling for deescalation or restraint in the face of ethnic cleansing cannot remain president.

The man who is spending billions of our taxpayer dollars to fund an Israeli war machine that considers Palestinians “human animals” and denies drinking water and food to a million Palestinian children belongs at The Hague, not the White House.

You’re allowed to be a single-issue voter if the issue is genocide.

And frankly, I can only assume Biden doesn’t want our votes. After all, he is telling us clearly that he doesn’t think Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims are fully human.

And only humans vote in elections.

They ain’t voting for Kennedy either because he’s just as anti Palestinian as Biden is. His rabid talk about them are just as bad as Biden’s is. So maybe their votes go to West.

Has Dean Phillips offered his views on this?

@snoopydawg -- are either Zionists, in which case we are in a land where talking points substitute for authentic dialogue and you just can't talk to them, or they are caught in the lesser-evil voting trap. There is a case to be made that RFK Jr. is the lesser of three evils.

I cannot say that I would dismiss lesser-evil voting out of hand. There's clearly an argument for it. The problem of course is that, in actual behavior, lesser-evil voters are simply looking to dismiss the problem of evil. People, flesh-and-blood human beings, do not typically vote lesser evil with the notion in mind that they are doing evil and that they will try to be better next time.

You may already know that Adolf Hitler was appointed by a lesser evil, Paul von Hindenburg. Exhibit A is the 1932 German Presidential election. I know that Wikipedia doesn't make much of a source, but the paragraph there is well-written:

The Nazi Party had risen very rapidly, from being a fringe group for much of the 1920s to becoming the second-largest party in the Reichstag in 1930. Led by Hitler, who exercised sole control over its policy and direction, its ideology combined extreme hostility towards the Weimar Republic with fervent antisemitism, anti-communism and German nationalism. The threat of Hitler caused many on the left to support Hindenburg; at the same time, Hindenburg's failure to overturn the Weimar Republic had disappointed many of those on the right who had supported him in 1925. The combined effect of these two influences resulted in a drastic change of Hindenburg's voter base between the two elections. In 1925 he had been elected as the right-wing candidate, while in 1932 much of his support came from the centre and left.

And then, of course, in January 30th of 1933, Hindenburg appointed Hitler.

The choices that are offered are pretty bleak as to where to go.

Trump can be quite entertaining but overall he represents the Uniparty and the overall foreign policy results would likely be similar.

An example of party switch ability is this.

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4431661-coal-blankenship-trumpier-...

A former CEO of a coal company who once said he is “Trumpier than Trump” has launched a bid for Senate as a Democrat in West Virginia.

Don Blankenship, who previously ran for the Republican nomination for the seat in 2018 but lost, filed his candidacy Friday for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Joe Manchin (D), according to a filing on the West Virginia secretary of state office’s website.

After then-President Trump endorsed Blankenship’s two primary opponents for the 2018 race over him, Blankenship had responded in a social media post saying, “As some have said I am Trumpier than Trump, and this morning proves it.”

Then there is RFK Jr. who seems to be trying to appeal to both parties.

His over the top support of Israel is off putting to many and now this...

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4430092-rfk-jr-praises-texas-borde...

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Thursday backed Texas in its ongoing battle with the federal government over border authority, criticizing the Biden administration for its handling of the U.S. southern border.

“Texas is right. Biden’s failure to secure the border leaves states no choice but to take matters into their own hands,” Kennedy wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “As President, I will end this humanitarian crisis once and for all. I will secure the border and destroy the business model of the drug cartels. A country without borders is not a country at all.”

Kennedy joins a growing list of politicians, most of them Republican, who have thrown their support behind Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) fight against the federal government over the fencing and razor wire installed by Texas at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The possibility of any viable alternative leaves us lacking!

@humphrey position on the TX border issue is apparently in line with several commenters here who are also concerned about lax border control and who take Gov Abbott's side. I am about as lefty as they come, but I too don't want open borders, although I might disagree on constitutional grounds with how Abbott is going about this, which I see as very problematic.

Nothing wrong with appeals to voters on both sides of the aisle, as long as it's sincere and honest. RFK Jr has been upfront from the beginning of his campaign that he wants to reach disaffected voters on the conservative/libertarian side, and his prominent position on covid, vaccines and mandates, bodily autonomy, and censorship resonate with that segment of the population.

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2024/01/26/arab-muslim-l...

Excerpts from the article:

'Not welcome here': Arab leaders cancel Dearborn meeting with Biden campaign manager.

The organizer of a planned meeting between President Joe Biden's campaign manager and a group of Arab and Muslim American leaders in Dearborn said it was canceled Friday after some in the wider community objected to the gathering amid fury over Biden's handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

Some Arab American political leaders from Metro Detroit who are Democrats flatly rejected any overtures from the Biden campaign until the president advocates for Israel to cease its military assault on Gaza.

Assad Turfe, who was coordinating the sit-down of Arab leaders and officials with Biden's campaign in Dearborn, said he made the decision to cancel Friday afternoon's group meeting "in the best interest of the community."

The meeting was to be between Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez and 10-15 Arab American elected officials, office holders and representatives from the larger community organizations, Turfe said
.....

The meetings are part an effort by the White House and Biden reelection campaign to meet with core constituency groups around the country, and the campaign said it "will continue to have thoughtful conversations with groups."
....

"Unless something drastic happens, you have lost the Arab American and Muslim community. At this point, from what I can see, there's no winning them over. That was the idea of the meeting," Turfe said.

Aiyash, who serves as Michigan's House majority floor leader, said he will "not allow our communities to be utilized for political expediency" after 110-plus days of U.S.-backed Israeli bombings of Gaza.

"Since October 7th, I have received ZERO correspondence from White House, DNC, or MDP leadership about the concerns from our community on the ongoing genocide unfolding in Gaza," Aiyash said on social media.

Lexis Zeidan, a 31-year-old Christian Palestinian American and activist in the community, said she was invited to the meeting but felt it was important to understand the community’s disposition toward it first. She said the resounding feedback she received was, “Biden and his team are not welcome here.”

Zeidan, a Dearborn native and Detroit resident who voted for Biden in 2020, said the Biden campaign had taken for granted the Arab American vote in Michigan. Biden has lost her vote, she said.

Then never again. They have adapted well to the realities in the US, where there are only only two kind of politics — local politics and International politics. If the geooplotical aggression remains dedicated to forcing the dictates of the US Empire on the nations of the world — that's bad news for the American people, because US foreign policy is bankrupting them with unintended consequences.

Joe doubled down on all of Trump's most horrible policies. Biden hung on to the ruined treaty with Iran that Trump tore up and never tried to restore relations. He made the Middle East even worse than he found it. He continued the pointless and stupid with China, the tariffs of which aggressively inflated the US cost of living, sending millions of Americans into poverty. He never tried to reverse the corrupt tax cuts that Trump enacted for the wealthy. He stole Afghanistan's money and let those people starve. And wasted the lives of Ukrainian in a foolish attempt to weaken Russia. He's left the economy and the environment much worse that he found it, while he is starting as many wars as he possibly can. His right wing, neocon politics has put the planet on the edge of total destruction.

The US is not coming back from the dark, repressive path it is on. The population has been deeply brain damaged. The Left will disappear for much of the coming century.

Just like Obama doubled down on all of the Bush most horrible policies and then some. He never really was against the Iraq war. He just said that it was a dumb war. As one person pointed out in the essay I posted above he killed more Muslims than Bush did. And brought in the double tap to make sure he killed even more of them. Seems Russia took a page out of Obama’s book when he double tapped the French mercenaries and then he killed those who came to claim the bodies. That was right after M….. said he’s sending more long range missiles to Ukraine. I’ve forgotten his name.
