Friday Night Photos Zoomania Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 12/08/2023 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
It's been a week of beautiful weather. Sunny blue skies and temps in the 70s.
On a less positive note our local utility company, SDG&E (San Diego Gouge and Extract) has decided their profit margin isn't large enough. Now they want to add a surcharge based on your annual income on top of their already exorbitant utility rates. All us rate payers are keeping our fingers crossed that the proposed increase will be denied by the PUC.
I had not been to the zoo since August so I decided it was time for a visit and spent a few hours there Tuesday morning.

Good work capturing the zoo land critters
Thanks for sharing. The blue face monkey is trick.
Brought a visiter to the Breakers mansion in Newport yesterday to see the
"Sparkling Lights" tour. Thought I would share a few, as our visitor had a
camera.
A portion of the grounds light show.

Hi, QMS.
Thanks for taking us on the Sparkling Lights tour with you. Breakers is quite a place. Must have been nice to be a Vanderbilt.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
Yea, apparently there is another Breakers in Palm Beach?
But the big one is in Asheville.
@QMS There is a Breakers
Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.
Resized to work in the image handler
The ceilings were a real trip..
Hi Q
It pays to look up! What a beautifully ornate ceiling .
Wow! You certainly captured the character of the region
thru the architecture.
Beautiful framing!
Thanks Q
The framing was so easy. Every inch you moved the lens another beautiful composition came into view. The architecture was just stunning.
Nice shot of the ceiling
I wonder how long it took to do all that detail work.

It is a leaded glass panel
maybe 15' x 40' with a clerestory above
probably more spectacular in the daylight
Snow snake
.
I watched Sam stretch out on her tummy and then crawl through the snow and make this snow snake. It looked better in person. But she cracked me up.
Nice pattern
Great photos as usual! I like the pink flamingo. Speaking of elephants I saw a tweet of one returning a shoe that a kid lost in his paddock. I’ll try to find it.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Hi snoopy
The snow snake and tree pattern are both a treat to look at.
I can imagine that it feels good to Sam to slither along the snow. I'd love to see your snow angel beside Sam's impressions ; ).
Heh…
I’m not sure if I could get back up if I did. First off Sam would come over and lay on me and then I’d be laughing so hard I’d be weak. She sure is happy that the snow has returned. She tries to make snow angels, but she is lousy at it.
Enjoy this.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
How wonderful that you and Sam share so much laughter
Your snow drawings remind me of the beach drawings I find.
ps. thanks for the elephant video
How gentle and compassionate dogs and elephants can be
The laughter sets the day
I’m not a morning person, but she helps me start my day with laughter. She is on vacation this week and she isn’t getting my socks for me like she normally does. I ask her to get one that’s on the floor and she just stares at it and then looks at me….back at the sock, me, sock….how can I not laugh?
And apparently she is more talented than I knew. Do you see the face of a woman she drew in the snow at the top? Now that’s talent.
The elephant video warmed my heart this morning. Animals are truly wonderful.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Hi snoopy
I did see the woman's face at the top, but I thought if I mentioned it others might question my vision and possibly my sanity.
Vacation time for mom? I suppose not. But it's worth the sacrifice, don't you think ; ).
@snoopydawg And they think these
Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.
Hi, snoopy
I bet you didn't know Sam was an artist. Nice shot of the snow tree.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
I didn’t know that
She had her back legs stretched behind her and just lay like that for awhile and then took off on her tummy. Seems that every day she finds something new to entertain herself and me.
She’s back on her trick of bringing me a toy and expecting a treat for it. I’m surrounded by 12 of them tonight.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
So,
has she gotten 12 treats or has her work all been for naught.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
I can’t ignore the look she gives me
Yeah but guess who has to take them back to her room? She has taken a lot of them outside so I’ve been asking her to bring them inside. She is so proud of herself when she does. She really is a smart dawg. If I drop something that she can pick up she is happy to do so. I dropped something out of my pocket one morning and now she expects me to drop it again every morning. She has a routine that I stick to just because she expects me to. Something about being wrapped around her finger.
Also did you see the lady in her snow snake at the top?
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Sounds like Sam has trained you well.

I think the relationship
between dogs and their companions are one of the most ideal relationships. They seem more like the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren, which I have recently enjoyed. Expectations are in some ways more easily accommodated, creating an ease that is sometimes less available to parents because of their greater natural responsibility.
Hi Social
Your animal portraits always capture some interesting and beautiful feature of their character. The flamingo is so elegant, and the Panda is too cute.
99% of my photos are of family little ones, but here are some photos of Arabic architecture, art and sunset.
Be well all, and enjoy the weekend.
Hi, Janis
Beautiful photos from your trip visiting family. They really capture the flavor of the region.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
Thanks Social
I'm glad you enjoyed them.
Wow Janis, you captured the flavor of the region so well
can almost feel the desert heat thru your images.
Thanks!
I like shots like you got
The arches and the stairs are exceptional. Where did you take them?
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
It's a secret place ; ) n/t
Hi Janis!
Great pics! Very interesting. Really like those first three. Very cool.
Thanks! Be well!

Hi dystopian
I had no idea how much I would appreciate contemporary Arabic architecture. It was one of those visions that will last forever. The shapes, the light, the shadows are constantly spellbinding.
Be well
Hi pixelators
Hi all, Hey SP!
GREAT animal photos SP! Awesome shots man. Wonderful work.
I found a song for you...
See if I can find a pic here...
Thanks for the OT and images!

That's always been
one of my favorite S&G songs. Some really great photos in that video.
Thanks for sharing, dystopian.

it's a good one...
Yeah I always loved that song too. I winced and cringed a bit at the less than stellar human behaviors being attributed to animals... but gave 'em a poetic license pass the song was so dang good.

Hi pixelators
Hi all,
One last irritation and I'll be gone.
This was long ago in a far away place... or a funnel web in the rain, my notes are unclear.
This one was in the fourth quadrant, third sector, returning from Zardoz.
Ooops, guess not, 'twas just a reflection in the river, don't know where my mind went...
Have good ones all!

Excellent architecture photos, QMS
I really like the composition and lighting in the first two shots.

Thank you Q, more amazing architectural images
Man sure can also create exceptional beauty.
Can you tell me where the first photo is from?
these were all taken in Newport
At the Breakers mansion on Bellevue Ave.
Cheers and thanks for the Arabic music!
I would not have guessed
they were all taken in Newport in the same place. Rhode Island is a very interesting and naturally beautiful place, and also home to some great musical and architectural history.
Thank you Q
beautiful Capt. QMS
GREAT photos man! Awesome buildings!
Thanks!

Hi, dystopian
Never an irritation.
That first shot looks a lot like the Algae Nebula to me. I hope you said hi to Sean while you were at Zardoz. As to where your mind went, if it's anything like mine it probably went down the river.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
I couldn't find Zardoz on the map,
but pleased to find it's a magical place. I guess I'd have to see the film to get a feel for the place whose name appears to come from the Wi Zard of Oz. I wonder how that place reflects the original Oz.
@janis b Hi J!
You are so funny and perceptive!
Sean Connery said it was the most embarrassing thing he ever did. It was a cheezy B campy sci-fi farce usually shown essentially for free, after a midnight showing of something good. For those not ready to go back out into the world yet.
take care!

Speaking of funny
and surely perceptive, I guess I don't have to watch the movie ; ). Who's ever ready to go back out into the world after losing oneself in something more 'inspirationally' absorbing.
Thank you for being you
You give me too much credit
for being perceptive. I only found out about the relationship between Zandoz and the Wizard of Oz by googling Zandoz.
Some Arabic music I am listening to
To be fair, some Israeli music
I tried to find some politically inspired Israeli music that expressed understanding and compassion for Palestinians, but had no luck on you tube. I was not surprised, even though there must be many Israelis (including musicians) who oppose their governments policies. The cultures share so many characteristics in common that it is mind-boggling to realise how antagonistic they can be. It's like charged family dynamics on steroids. What a damn shame.
Thanks for the selection
of Arabic music, Janis. I always like watching a live music performance so I really liked the last video with the National Arab Orchestra.

I agree Social
The live symphony presentation was special. Did you notice the conductor's red shoes as he jumped around?
How could you miss them?

True
Hey snoopy, of course Sam is smart and a
CHARACTER! You're her human. Man, you guys and gals have notched up the always excellent photos a wee bit. I love the architecture, snow snake, light show, and the animals, especially the koala. Also the tune selection. Shame the cosmos hasn't popped Netanyaboob a big one. And don't get me started about the DC yahoos here. It's been pretty calm sweather-wise down in the old slowly sinking Sandbar Peninsula. Anywho, hope everyone is well. Now, I got to wander over and check out joe s's Tunes of the Week. Rec'd!!
Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.
Ditto obf,
about your observation of snoopy and Sam.
Hi, orlbucfan
I couldn't agree more about Nuttyyahoo. It's a crying shame what the Zionist with the backing of the US are doing to the Palestinians. Makes me ashamed to say I'm an American.
