Friday Night Photos Trees Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

Has anybody heard from Janis b? She has not posted in over two weeks. Her last post didn't mention anything about taking a break from posting or leaving the site. I sent her a PM on Tuesday asking if she was okay, but have yet to receive a reply. I hope nothing serious has happened to her.

On the local homefront we had some scattered showers Wednesday night and yesterday. Sunny and cool today and continued warming over the weekend. Supposed to be in the low 80s by the middle of next week. The price of gas dropped another 20¢ in the last week to $4.69 a gal. I'm still waiting for the cost of groceries to come down. I'm not holding my breath on that happening any time soon.

Trees. They come in all shapes and sizes and provide a valuable service to the ecosystem. The world would be a pretty bleak place without them.

Janis was scheduled to visit her grandkids, out of country.
Probably still there. Thanks for the trees, man. Love 'em.
All I got is old work trucks. Captured today on my way to fill
propane tanks. Tough, like your trees.

What a priceless collection of truck photos. The last two reflect what I experience of you as self portraits, and maybe the red cab and bunny one as well. Maybe all you need is a new window or two ; ).

Until I had time to be 'on time' for the Friday Night Photos. And it turns out, the first friday I'm 'on time' is the trees edition! So here's a pic of one of my trees, taken a few weeks ago, before the leaves went kaputt.

Your pictures of trees are great!

Beautiful looking tree. I'd love it if the trees around here turned colors like that. We don't get much fall colors around here. The fall colors shots I posted were from Utah.

My favorite winter photo. This snowstorm came out of the blue very quickly and it shut down all the noise as it settled in.

I loved walking by this tree even though it was dead. The day after I took the picture it got cut down.

And just for fun here is Sam at the Great Salt Lake.

She had a blast running through the water which was just inches deep. Run, run run….

@snoopydawg @snoopydawg Hi SD! GREAT snow pics! Looks wonderful!

I love that Rabbi Heschel quote too!

It is funny how man hates a dead tree. The birds love them. They provide many nesting holes and great perches, they are often full of insects, and often woodpeckers. We are at war against leaving any dead tree standing. Likely a function of lawsuits, but they are valuable habitats, and they are even that way about it here in the middle of nowhere in the country with a tree that could not possibly fall on anything!

take care, be well !

rebuilt a 1963 Dodge D-100 slant 6 225 with 3 on the tree. Built a shell over the bed
with cut-offs from a cedar interior McMansion job. Drove it all over the country,
living in the back with tools, a Coleman stove and a few clothes. Wan't a
big work truck, like the ones above, but worked out as a mobile home.
Donated it to a petting farm in Florida after I finished.. Hand carved sign placcques
designated it as 'Woodchuck' Chuck the truck. Nobody messed with it Wink

@QMS GREAT old truck pics Capt.! Awesome stuff man!

Out back we have a 1979 Ford 5 ton with an 18' box on it, Waltco lift gate, gas 379 so I can work on it since I never learned diesel motors. With 400 lbs. under load limit, 14,600 in the box, it got 7 mpg from LA to central Texas. Chug chug chug up those grades, it was a slow trip. We call her Big Red.

Hi all, Hey SP!

Great tree photos man! Beautiful! Wonderful stuff!

This was today. We get a brief late fall, but with small flashes of color here and there.

This may be a huge Prairie Flameleaf Sumac, or it is a nut, as Walnut, but never see nuts on it.

These are older pics but show how things look around here now in our late fall.

Lots of the Cypress along river look like this now.

The Buckley Oaks are starting to turn
BuckOak120218a.jpg

Saw a few Maples like this in town today.
Maples-17b.jpg

Our Pecans lost most of their leaves this week. Mesquites are bare as are Sycamores. Much of our tree habitat is Live-Oaks and Juniper, so there is lots green through the winter.

Have good ones all!

Was going to find 'Bare Trees' from Fleetwood Mac... Wink

I just love the colors. All our trees around here have no color left. It's all on the ground. That brief cold and wind session we had did the trick. The pic of maple leaves is really great. I think because I love that color!

I have to say those old trucks are built like brick sh!thouses. They were built to haul heavy loads and last/be durable. Sure beats the flimsy pick-ups of today even if it is ICE tech (rolling my eyes). I love the fall colored trees and miss the seasons. We don't see much of that down here in the Sandbar Peninsula. Sp, I think jb may have family somewhere near here, and she visits them. I recall her mentioning it in past comments. Anywho, storm season is officially and naturally OVER!!!!!! Hooray!!!!!! Trees

Joyce Kilmer
1886 –1918

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

(This poem is in the public domain.)

Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest can also lay claim to being a top hiking destinations across all of southwestern NC. This area contains an impressive remnant of virgin forest, representative of the vast Eastern forests that used to stretch from the Atlantic to the Mississippi and beyond. Exceptionally large trees of more than 100 species grow in the rich cove environment.

Thanks for the focus on trees (and I like old trucks too Q)

Seasonally changing trees are something I thoroughly enjoy seeing through your and others photos.

I am so sorry for not communicating directly with you about my travels, and to have caused you to worry. I travelled over many seas to visit my daughter and husband, and their two little girls. It was such a special joy and pleasure that all of my other normally engaging communication mostly disappeared from view. I am very happy though to be here again with you alI. I arrived safely back home to colder and rainy-er than normal weather, but feeling very satisfied.

Cheers to all, and thank you to those who filled in the blanks ; ).
