Something Different
~

This started as a rough draft for a writers circle at our local group.
The goal is to come up with a story for a campfire. Came up with
the punkin heads. Already read it to the bunch once. Since then, it
has morphed a couple times. A few newer insights after starting to
read a novel in the same vein. More better descriptions. Still not at
the heart of it. How to focus awareness of the things on the fringes?
Is there a clearer truth to be found outside the mainstream noise?
Of course. How to get folks to focus on it is the purpose.

Draft #3 ~~

Pumpkin Heads

This is a story of gatherings with shimmering actors. The pumpkin heads
favor this time of year. The translucent fall air is at play.
Attracted to flickering camp fire light, the enigmas approach
from the shadows, becoming close enough to oversee the proceedings.
The trick is to see brief hints of their forms from the corner of your eye.
The players are distinguished by the pumpkins arranged about their heads.
Somehow, the faltering firelight accents the shine of the pumpkin flesh. The faces
carved upon the orange gourds vary. Some are happy, some sad. Many are scary
and mean. It depends on the mood and intent of the souls beneath the masks.
Perhaps these shifting shadows are only there to observe.
Those are the most difficult to perceive.
Some may just want to briefly startle the group focused on the flames,
usually during story time.
The apparitions can be wispy as a night fog or appear like a flash.
Then only to disappear and blend into the shadows.
Just enough to draw your attention away from the flames for a spell.

Shimmering - late Old English scymrian, of Germanic origin; related to German schimmern, also to shine. The noun dates from the early 19th century. BUT not related to "shim" or "shimmy", which aren't related to each other either.

But what is it that shimmers just outside of consciousness? Is it the null set, necessary nothingnes? Perhaps the hypothetical metaphysical watcher, without which none of this is seen when unpopulated and hence arguably but a phantasm? OR, is it just a phantasm, a psychic echo of the shrooms, even the merely hypothetical shrooms? Pumpkins? Perhaps, but doesn't that make it a North American thing?

A pumpkin is a vernacular term for mature winter squash of species and varieties in the genus Cucurbita that has culinary and cultural significance[1][2] but no agreed upon botanical or scientific meaning.[3] The term pumpkin is sometimes used interchangeably with "squash" or "winter squash", and is commonly used for cultivars of Cucurbita argyrosperma, Cucurbita ficifolia, Cucurbita maxima, Cucurbita moschata, and Cucurbita pepo.

~~ Da Kine Wiki, which also says it is native to only parts of N. America

But pumpkins are ephemeral, present for but part of the year except in cans and canned pumpkin, well, isn't. Libby's uses a proprietary blend of Dickinson squash, more closely related to butternut squash than to anything else.

other canned pumpkin brands produce purees made with one or more types of winter squash, like butternut, Hubbard, Boston Marrow, and Golden Delicious.

~~ Southern Living.

So punkin heads, like punkins, are shape shifters, hence the high speed flicker that is shimmering, but don't tell Linus, the prime true believer in the metaphysical, magikal "Great Pumpkin".

NEW REPORT: IDF Veteran Reveals Shocking Evidence That Hamas’s Attack on Israel Was an “Inside Job”

His statement is astounding:

“First of all, we will start with September 1st. The Israeli government confiscated the weapons of the security teams in the Gaza belt communities. This was done against the will of those security teams. Why this happened, nobody knows.

“Fast forward to September 10th, the municipalities received reports, these are civilians, they received reports of increased tensions on the Gaza border on Jewish holidays. These span from Yom Kippur to Shemini Atzeret, which was on Saturday.

“Those same heads of municipalities asked if they should cancel their festivities in light of the warnings of increased tensions on the border with Gaza. The army said no, don’t cancel anything, it appears we are heading into a period of calm.

“Now, you can assume that the Shin Bet (Israeli Security Agency) did not know about this attack. But that is highly improbable. The state of Israel is probably the most advanced surveillance state in the world. The Gaza border is probably the most heavily surveilled. The Shin Bet, who somehow knew about a guy who had corona in a toy store and tracked him all the way to a soccer stadium during the days of corona, somehow didn’t know about this massive attack planned by thousands of Gazans on pickup trucks and hang gliders.

“Do you really believe that? Are you really that stupid? If you do, I have a bridge to sell you.

“Do you know how long it takes an attack helicopter to get activated and blow up any of those pick up trucks or hang gliders that invaded Israel? Less than 5 minutes. It all could have been over. It could have been a matter of 5 minutes. Instead they had hours to kill thousands and bring back hostages alive, unopposed.

“This is not a breach. That is an inside job.

“And if it is not an inside job, well then that is even worse. Because that means that the IDF is the most incompetent military that ever walked the face of the earth. And now we are supposed to trust these people to invade Gaza. Under the command of a military that a) didn’t see this coming and b) was too incompetent to react to a bunch of pick up trucks invading Israel.

“You tell me which one is worse. That it was an inside job? Or that it was incompetent?

“And oh, by the way, now that America is coming with aid, do you really think Israel needs American aid to invade Gaza? Gaza? Their air force is hang gliders, their ground troops are pick up trucks. They don’t even have a tank. And Israel needs American aid to fight them. Are you serious? You don’t think there is anything fishy going on here?”

PER: The People’s Voice TV

(Video shows Hamas shooting a random civilian dead who was just driving along)

Should a third-party investigation be opened up into the Israeli government and if it was an inside job

Not the first time I have heard about these issues. And remember that just a month prior Bibi had held up a map of the area with no Palestine on it. Kinda like he was forecasting the future.

ETA - switched tweet. Dunno why it had a video totally unrelated to the transcript. Also he says more than what’s above.

And it’s buying time to get more defensive weapons to the troops that are illegally squatting in foreign lands. Austin says that our troops have the right to defend themselves. Nope they do not because they are an occupying force and they’re without permission from the country’s government.

Interesting note on how Russia has shot down lots of Ukrainian planes from afar just since the Israel/Hamas conflict started. Might be that they are warning America about how effective the missiles are and how they can shoot down American planes just as easily. I sure hope that someone here is paying attention. Like the captains of all those ships over there.

troops that are scattered everywhere and of course us here at home. Seeing lots of warnings about the many immigrants that have been allowed in. 2nd time I heard it was from the FBI so that got my ears up. Are they planning a false flag attack against us and blaming it on Hamas? Either way it’s a boneheaded move from president Blinken.

Turned on the morning propaganda (news) today and was surprised that they were actually discussing the Palestinian refugees trying to get supplies, especially medical help. I guess that bombing hospitals and churches are making people look at this situation differently.

Your pumpkinhead story is cute. A few years ago, I was doing that Nanowrimo (National Writing Month), where you write a story in 30 days. Some people posted what they were writing about. Someone was writing about the adventures of pumpkinhead, onionhead, and turniphead. I would read that. I usually wrote witch stories.

Was talking to a manager at a fast-food restaurant and they are having a problem with their cash register. Every few days when an employee tries to sign out, instead it orders a two piece chicken meal. They had someone look at it to figure out what is wrong but could find nothing. Now when it happens, they just laugh at it and say that the ghost of KFC is looking for his meal.
