2017 Eclipse

~~ 2017 Solar Eclipse

Well, you saw it, or you missed it. It's not like solar eclipses, or even total eclipses are that rare, but the path of totality is geographically narrow. Naturally, they hyped the hell out of this one because tourism (money). So, thus it became THE Great American Eclipse for an extended period well before it happened. I'm quite certain that it must've been exeptional, so how could we possibly let it fade from memory?

Meanwhile, it is Aubrey Beardsley's birthday

Lastly, it is World Senior Citizens Day, or Useless eaters Day depending upon your ideological proximity to the W.E.F. Not all of the elderly, of course, some are wealthy or somehow otherwise influential or powerful.

We've got another on the way next April. Should be great too.
https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/total-solar-eclipse-april8-24/
We've booked a house on a lake in S. Ill, and plan to also visit Cahokia while there.
Caught the 2017 one in N. GA at a friend's house.

It is always a gamble with weather, but you pay your money and take your chance.

Thanks for the OT and music. Hope everyone has a good day!

chasing them. Coastal CA is always a crapshoot with possible clouds or fog or such, but such is life. I have chased a couple of lunar eclipses a wee bit, not so much to avoid clouds but light pollution. I've caught some spectacular comets too, including 2 I chased, so I consider myself extremely lucky.

I am going to a cremation seminar. I have no idea what it costs anymore to dispose of one's body. The only experience I have with this was when my husband passed away suddenly, but that was like 100 years ago. I know it's more now. I do have a grave in Pensacola. There they put the veterans name on one side and the spouse on the other and bury them on top of each other.

The best part of this seminar is that it's being held at the best pizza restaurant I have ever eaten at. So, great pizza for lunch.

I made the trek from San Diego to Idaho to see and photograph the eclipse in 2017. It was definitely worth the drive to see the eclipse in totality.
Well hurricane HER has moved out of the region. In my neighborhood we got about 2" of rain and very little wind. In fact most of the day there was no wind at all which was a good thing. I was concerned about high winds doing damage to my Eucalyptus trees.

I woke up this morning determined to drink less, eat right, and exercise.
But that was four hours ago when I was younger and full of hope.

I'm worried about what it might have done to Borrego. However, great that they got a good wetting, especially if any got to the aquifer. As of yesterday, all was well at my Sister's place in La Mesa, though I assume that Mission Valley got flooded, as it deserves to be.

We do, however, have a limited amount of cannet, boxed and bottled product that we buy, so it has a bit less impact on us. A pound of flour/butter/etc. is still a pound. We sometimes get the odd burger out, but not from chains, so haven't seen nearly so severe an effect.

the price isn't quite the same. I remember in my youth when gasoline was something like 50 cents a gallon. Its seems like the only thing that remains static is the minimum wage.

I can actually remember 25 cents a gallon for gas and 25 cents a pack for cigs in a machine, creating the "put it all in the tank, or smoke some too" dilemma.

@humphrey A lb. suddenly wasn't a lb., but the price stayed the same. When the coffee scam proved to be a winner, it started the shrinkflation ball rolling.

la da da, la da da, Hi all, Hey EL! Hope all is well!

Moog was a biggie... shaped a lot of modern music.

So far this morn I have seen reports of Least and Wedge-rumped Storm-Petrels at Sweetwater Reservoir, Lower Otay Lake, and Lake Henshaw, where also a shearwater and a probable Cook's Petrel.

Further north a Wedge-rumped and 2 Least Storm-Petrel flying around Newport Pier.

Lake Palmdale has 50 Least, 3 Black, and 3 Wedge-rumped Storm-Petrel, and an Arctic Tern.

Because it mostly tracked inland I would say those bodies of water are best bets. I hope the Salton Sea got some, it could use a foot.

Further north I hope Owens Lake, Tinemaha Reservoir and Mono Lake got some.

I would love to be checking water thataway today.

pelagic birding. Too long a drive for me these days. I agree about the Salton Sea. The whole Borrego Aquifer could use a lot of serious recharge too. We had planned on skipping the desert run this year, but between this and the projected monster el niño coming this winter, we're thinking we'd better get down there. Unfortunately, we are boxed in calendar wise and would have to run down in late march, which is a bit early for serious bloom.

rig is legendary among moog heads, tho moog the person didn't personally build it. He's part of some sort of Pantheon that includes Moog himself, Wendy Carlos and I dunno who else.

The guys who maintained that old modular rig for him for all those years are true legends. Talk about a bitchy bit o' kit...

I'm forever grateful to Bob Moog for a bunch of reasons. I got to work with him for several years at Kurzweil. Ray brought him in as chief scientist, after Bob had sold his own name to CBS and therfore couldn't be Moog any more (his followon company was called Big Briar). I worked with him at the end of the Kurzweil 250 era, and the beginning of the K1000/K2000 era. He was actually the guy who signed my application to the IEEE for member status. I kept that stupid application form until the house fire- but I could always brag that I had his autograph.

I got to meet Keith Emerson, through Bob. But that's another story. Here's a picture of Bob just as I like to remember him. 1985...

when my sister fell in love with her later husbamd (around 1966) she knew he was of Goanese descent(Goa being in India with people living there, who were from Portugal, so at that time the people in Goa wanted to be more Indian than Portuguese), but she didn't know the portuguese language.

So my sister totally in love with her beutiful Goanese danced through the nght somewhere in Germany (Stüttgart) and she sang this beautiful song, while dancing with him tellimg him "Besame Mucho" without knowing what that meant. He. *her later husband", had the time of his life and amused himself. Both have always told us that story.

When I heard the song, I always remembered this story.

I asked her lately if she still remembered the besame mucho story, when she askde him for all the kisses without knowing, she said no. It is very hard to see my sister's dementia develop rapidly.

Ok, so to you all, besame mucdho from over here.

Be well all. And have a good one, whatever the good one may be right now.

PS I don't see to whom I responded with this comment. Who cares. Kisses are always nice to give and nice to receive.
