Friday Night Photos Old Town Edition
Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. You know the drill, post any photos, memes, or music you like.
The camera club I belong to went to photograph the Victorian homes at Heritage Park in Old Town San Diego Tuesday morning. When we finished we walked over to the Old Town Mexican Cafe for lunch. I tried to capture a little of the flavor of Old Town along the way. With good weather, good friends, and good food it was an all around great day.

On a more somber note it was heartbreaking on Wednesday to see that wildfires had destroyed most of Lahaina and other areas of Maui. Since my first time there when I was still a kid and many trips since then, Maui has always been a magical place for me and Lahaina was the heart and soul of that magic. I feel like a large piece of my heart has been ripped away. Tonight my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Maui.

I sympathise with the grief you and so many feel for Maui. You were fortunate to enjoy its pleasures for so long. It will be a long time before its vibrancy will be brought back to life.

Great photos as always. Most excellent composition on all. You have a great eye for the art in a view. The second one the dark frame around those highlights is outstanding. On the last one there appears to be some sort of liquid, falling, as if from the sky? It seems vaguely familiar, in a distant memory...

Even when San Diego is at it's greenest, it doesn't compare to all the shades and tones of green you get in NZ. I appreciate all the green landscapes and views you share with us.

It's always a pleasure for me to share what I find so beautiful here. I believe the green-ness has most to do with the amount of rainfall. We are semi-topical, heading in the direction of tropical. You are considered arid semi-tropical, and hopefully can receive enough rain to keep it so in the future.
According to the long range
weather forecasters we are going to have El Niño conditions this winter which usually means lots of rain for Socal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We need the water.

The second image reminded me of a forest cathedral, lit through the trees with the bright light after a rain.
I continue to wish for the elements to become more well balanced, so all we humans and nature can thrive. Wishing you rain and cooler temperatures soon.

GREAT photos SP. I could sure go for some Mexican food. Pretty much any time.
Found another reptile pic... Desert Whiptail, these are a foot long or more and way faster than us. The only way I ever caught one was with the fishin' rod, and a mono noose. People might look at you funny when you walk down a dry desert wash with a fishin' rod, but I was used to that anyway.
You would not believe how long it took me to train these Common Dolphin for this pic.

I've seen the Orange-throated Whiptail here but not the Desert Whiptail. I don't think they live in this area. Love the music selections. Both Bay Area bands. I saw Montrose at Winterland when Sammy Hagar was the front man. Link Wray and Little Feat were also on the bill

Wow SP! Musta been great to be in the bay area when that music was happening!
And cool seeing Montrose when Sammy sang... those first couple or few albums were great. By time I saw Ronnie, Sammy was gone. I am one of the 'VanHagar' was the better version camp. I did see original Little Feat back then, and saw a bunch of Tubes shows mid to late 70's, was a huge fan. I woulda loved to see Link Wray, he was awesome and a founding father of 60's rock in many ways. Those pick slides on Switchblade were downright ferocious for the time.

Did you see that Sam has finally started swimming? The last 2 years she would only wade in shallow water and slap at it if it was too deep. But yesterday she just decided that she is a dawg that knows how to swim. And boy did she have fun.
But surprisingly there was no beach at the spot we went to when you visited. Maybe about 5 feet of beach is available there. What a difference a good snow year makes. You remember how far we had to walk? The year before was just as bad. Hopefully El Niño will see another good water year.

I did see your post of Sam in last nights EB. I bet you felt like a mother who's child takes it's first steps on their own. I remember how low the lake was. I'm glad to hear it has filled up since I was there. All the western states really need the water.

Wonderful pics, gang. Having lived most my days in the Sinking Sandbar Peninsula, I have an appreciation of Hispanic culture, east coast style. LOL. Love their cuisine (thumbs up). I've been to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and Costa Rica. Beautiful, unique places. Our weather/climate has been the pits: hot temps/humidity. No hurricanes--yet. I've never been to Hawaii, but the Maui disaster reminds of the Australian wildfire catastrophe a few years ago.

that I took Sam to swim at. But there is good news about the GSL too. Lots of large sailboats have been put back in the water and they are able to dock at the marina that a few years ago was just dirt. The lake is up about 5 feet, but it’s still short that much from old times.
