"A lie can make it halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on."
We've all heard this line before, but what you may not realize is just how durable the lie is.
For example, the lies that get us into wars persist today. I'm not talking about Bush's lies that got us into Iraq in 2003.
Let's start with Kosovo in 1999: NATO began bombing Serbia because they were committing "genocide" in Kosovo. Except that when U.N. people began digging up graves after the war they found no evidence of "genocide".
Claims of up to 100,000 ethnic Albanians massacred in Kosovo revised to under 3,000 as exhumations near end
Even today, when confronted with this fact, some Democrats will willfully refuse to believe it. They've bought the bogus "humanitarian war" myth, line, hook and sinker.
Afghanistan 2001: The Republicans think our withdrawal from Afghanistan was a scandal. But the real scandals were the fact that the war was never necessary, and that the Pentagon lied to us for 20 years.
Libya 2011: Remember when Ghadaffi's forces were committing genocide? remember when he gave his army viagra so that they could keep raping?
Lies, lies, and more lies.
This is not to say that Serbians weren't killing civilians. This is not to say that the Taliban weren't bad guys. This is not to say that Ghadaffi was a good guy.
This isn't that Russia isn't committing war crimes in Ukraine today.
What it DOES mean is that a LOT MORE people got killed after America lied to us. It means that there is no such thing as a "humanitarian war".
Comments
There is no shortage of present day lies that are getting many
soldiers and civilians killed.
To name a few:
The massacre in Bucha, the Russians are shelling the nuclear plant that they control, Ukraine blew up Nord Steam and the hydro dam on the Dnieper River was sabotaged by Russia.
The MSM continues to spread all of them.

I've been posting on r/antiwar
The subreddit has been largely taken over by the liberal anti-Russian crowd.
I posted this there, and I've gotten some interesting comments. For example:
regarding my tax money going to Ukraine:
Nope sorry, you shouldn't mind though since your money is helping push out the fascist russian army, that's the antiwar position.
The vast majority of donations are from old stockpiles in storage, and it's actually cheaper to donate them to Ukraine than to continue maintaining them in storage....

committing seppuku in real time, as they ramp up to their putative future IPO- which I'm sure that their founders are counting on for a record first-day pop followed by an easy and immediate retirement.
I don't think that they understand that they are completely dependent upon volunteer contributors and freely-donated content, and are doing everything in their power to piss off their user base. I suspect that they'll join Delphi, Digg, and a dozen others on the trashheap of history very shortly. Poor ol' Spez is probably not gonna get his house in the Hamptons after all. Snif.

the old saying
Isn't the old saying that 'the first casualty of war is truth'? Of course truth was murdered in the western media a long time ago. I suppose they are simply trying to make sure it stays dead.
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

There really was an ethnic conflict in Bosnia, with the serb army running amok. Disputing the most outrageous claims doesn't make all the claims untrue. War Crimes Kosovo
No wars are humanitarian, I don't know of anyone who describes them that way. When one country invades another, such as the case under discussion, there is a pretty obvious way to end the war. The aggressor can go back to their own country and all the killing would stop tomorrow.
America didn't start the war in Ukraine, quite the opposite, they did everything possible diplomatically to persuade Putin not to invade, they even overlooked his annexation of Crimea.
We do supply weapons, logistics, and money to Ukraine. Many people die every day. All the killing would end if Russia simply went home. I'm sure the Russian people would appreciate it, especially the poor guys being killed.
Next time you vote
I hope it counts. The citizens of Crimea voted and it counted.

Blatantly false. But you knew that didn't you?
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Kosovo
Yep, but that's not what I was talking about.
Here's an interesting fact: The former president of Kosovo is on trial in the Hague right now for war crimes. He's also a former KLA leader.
Sure….
If you ignore again the reason why Russia took action in the first place which would be that Ukraine was killing ethnic Russians that didn’t want to be ruled by Nazis like they had been for 8 years and were on the brink of a massive attack by their own government and Nazi goons that the government was using to kill people living in the Donbas. Why do you keep ignoring this fact? Because it doesn’t fit in with your narrative that only Russia is the bad guy?
Your own government just sent more troops into Syria where they have parked its military in a 3rd of Syria with the main goal of stealing its oil. Why don’t you have a problem with that unprovoked invasion? Or that it’s still squatting its ass in Iraq and 799 other foreign bases including Germany and Japan and the citizens there want it to leave? If you won’t call out your own government for its war crimes then you are just a hypocrite. As far as I know Russia hasn’t built permanent bases in Ukraine.

the most insidious lie, IMHO,
is the use of "unprovoked". As in "Putins unprovoked invasion". As if that were true. And as if any of the US invasions have been provoked.
America's unprovoked invasion of Afghanistan.
America's unprovoked invasion of Somalia.
America's unprovoked invasion of Iraq.
America's unprovoked invasion of Syria.
And on and on and on.
