Friday Night Photos Father Time Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

When I think about it, it just blows me away that in the mid 1600's, long before computers and calculators, our engineering forefathers were designing and building complex clock movements like the one inside this modern day grandfather clock.

but then again, so is time

a couple trees encompassing the rocks in their way growth over time

funny how trees can grow around otherwise immovable objects
given time -- perhaps we can too?

thanks for the grandfather clocks shots!

@QMS
Very interesting tree growth in the first two shots. The first angle looks like the tree is pooping out a big rock. The second angle looks like a lava flow coming down the rock.
Long after mans time is over here on earth not only the trees but all the flora will eventually overgrow what we've built.

Definitely works of art.

Made me think of the cuckoo clock. Had a beautiful one at my childhood home. A gift from a world traveling uncle. It disappeared at some point. I think put away or sold by dad after mom died.

Not as old as the grandfather clock. Wiki says it first appeared in the 1800s. (All info from Wiki.)

A cuckoo clock is a type of clock, typically pendulum driven, that strikes the hours with a sound like a common cuckoo call and has an automated cuckoo bird that moves with each note. Some move their wings and open and close their beaks while leaning forwards, whereas others have only the bird's body leaning forward. The mechanism to produce the cuckoo call has been in use since the middle of the 18th century and has remained almost without variation.
...

There are two kinds of movements: one-day (30-hour) and eight-day clockworks. Some have musical devices, and play a tune on a Swiss music box after striking the hours and half-hours. Usually the melody sounds only at full hours in eight-day clocks and both at full and half hours in the one-day timepieces. Musical cuckoo clocks frequently have other automata which move when the music box plays.

@OLinda

does me, have had to stop all the clocks around here to slow
down the process - do not need to be reminded of the passage
of time by mechanical or digital devices

we had a grand old grandfather clock at the farm
also a piece of 1800's craftsmanship
the greedy stepmother sold it off along with all of
our families heirlooms ..
irreplaceable, but that was on my dad
for those losses

The photo on the album cover is perfect cuckooness, along with the song!

Cuckoo clocks and birds are both entertaining and mysterious. The cuckoos here are fascinating to me. Their call is clear and evident to anything in the vicinity, and is very present for some months, but they so rarely show themselves. Interesting choice of bird chosen for the swiss cuckoo clock.

Thank you for the fine art and craft of the grandfather clock. It’s beautiful inside and out.

Last Friday dystopian introduced op art in nature. I thought it might be fun to play with the camera with the thought of op art in mind.

Enjoy the weekend all and be well

It makes sense that it can express a sense of freedom. I had been thinking in the direction of a sense of belonging, or lack of. Maybe the sense of belonging and freedom are one.

@janis b @janis b
Communism according to Lenin looks a whole bunch like the Paris commune (1871). Direct democracy on every level, including at work.
The "whithering of the state" is what will happen Only after the dictatorship of the proletariat.
After the revolution, the proletariat will seize control of the state, not because they want to grow it, but it will be used to crush their enemies (capitalists).
Lenin never trusted the state. He thought it would always be used to oppress the workers. But he also acknowledged that without a centralized state, the workers could never be able to win the revolution. That's why he always focused on the "purity" and focus of the communist party beforehand.
Unfortunately, Lenin was a sick man even before the end of the civil war. And Stalin was no Marxist.

Hi all, Hey SP!

Great time for these pics SP!

That Mick Taylor lead solo in Time Waits for No One might be his best ever, with Can't Ya Hear Me Knockin'.

A few other timely songs would be Time by the Chambers Brothers, No Time by the Guess Who, Time Is On My Side by the Stones, don't have time to grab them...

Here is a quickie, I gotta fly, am still working...

I see time as the modern day slave master. It determines when we go to work, when we eat, when we play, when we sleep. The nicest thing about retirement is having more autonomy with my time and not being a slave to the clock.
