Inspiration today comes from a novel I just finished Nutshell by Ian McEwan (a brit). It is a story told by an unborn child within the womb of a murderess. One of the passages I collated, that may interest this audience, is as follows .. I paraphrase for brevity.

I stay awake, I listen. I learn. Early this morning, less than an hour before dawn, there was a heavier matter than usual. Through my mother's bones I encountered a bad dream in the guise of a formal lecture. The state of the world. An expert in international relations, a reasonable woman with a rich deep voice, advised me that the world was not well.

The lecturer took a dim view of our species, of which psychopaths are a constant fraction, a human constant. Armed struggle, just or not, attracts them. They help to tip local struggles into bigger conflicts. Europe, according to her, in existential crisis, fractious and weak as varieties of self-loving nationalism sip that same tasty brew.

And foe-of-convenience, the United States, barely the hope of the world, guilty of torture, helpless before its sacred text conceived in an age of powdered wigs, a constitution as unchallengeable as the Koran. Good morning...
Interesting concept for a book.
We've been tending to household chores. Plan on mopping today. Supposed to be pretty and close to 70F today, but stormy tomorrow then turning cold. Winter in the south.
Harvested another head of cabbage and made a soup this week. Been adding some of our local grown sausage to it.

Damn, recovering from a night of obnoxious but, sadly,
probably necessary raucous noise. The National Marine Weather Service interrupting any and all broadcast spectra with small craft warning after small craft warning, preceded by a horribly obnoxious and grating, probably sawtooth, alert tone. And why? Because you don't need intelligence or common sense to get rich enough to afford small recreational boats (the pros were most definitely not out yestidday).
