Friday Photography - Torched Tulips
Submitted by janis b on Fri, 10/07/2022 - 6:43pm
As Social says, Happy Friday everyone. Post any photos, memes, or music you like. He’s away enjoying the beauty of nature in Utah.
Torch is the chosen word for flashlight here in NZ. I recently bought a brilliant torch that will never need replacing, holds its charge for 3 months, and is very powerful. I was so fed up with all the times I needed a flashlight and it was either dead or fading. While playing with my new torch it occurred to me to illuminate the tulips with it. The results were surprising and satisfying. I will continue to experiment with my new flashlight.
Be well everyone, and enjoy your weekend.

Hi pixelators
Hi all, Hi Janis! Hope all is well out there!
Great photos! Interesting tulips. Very neat lighting! Cool stuff Janis!
For some reason torch always struck me as an odd name for it... despite the obvious origins. UK, NZ, and Oz, all use torch. Does Canada, the other major player in that group? I imagine many of the crown colonies use the term?
Battery quality sucks for flashlights nowadays. Probably be unbearable were it not for LED bulbs. I have a 'torch' that plugs into cigarette lighter in car, a million candlepower, I joke it can fry an egg at a hundred yards. Must be 40 years old, still works great.
Thanks for the great pix, and hosting while SP is taking pix of red rocks.
Lucky guy!
I'll go find a couple pics...

Hi dystopian
If your flashlight can fry an egg it can probably also burn it. Maybe you have to start referring to your flashlight as a torch ; ).
too funny J

I love laughing with you!
Hi pixelators
Here are a couple pics...
False Duskywing (Gesta gesta) a butterfly.

a caterpillar, I don't know which butterfly it belongs to. There is a fairly recent Caterpillars of N.America field guide, finally, but I have no library budget lately, so have to hunt stuff down online.

This cat might be Celia's Roadside-Skipper, whatever they destroy my Blue Mistflower if I do not remove.

This is a moth cat, nearish 'wooly bear' type, but which are black with red usually. These 'fuzzy' ones can be very dangerous, some are soft and no problem, others have toxins in those glass sliver needles.

This is an Imperial Moth caterpillar.

close up of the head

An out of focus pic of an adult Imperial Moth. About 4" wingspan, brick-reddish pink on yellow. One of America's silk moths.

Be well all!

Thank you for the photos dystopian
I just read a bit about the silk moth. What a sacrifice the caterpillar makes to provide us with one of the most sublime fabrics.

From our trip
I haven’t seen the aspen ablaze in color like I did for 40 years. Driving up I saw that the hills were dotted with color and knew that I timed it perfectly. This photo uploaded doesn’t let all the colors show so just know it was even better. Plus my email has forgotten how to resize photos. Either way too big or tiny. Ah well…. But bummer!

It's beautiful to see
the epitome of Autumn in your neck of the woods, snoopy.
The blazing orange of tonight's sunset is enough to make one forget there is anything wrong in the world. Thank you.
Thanks
It was something to see tonight when the mountains lit up like that. The colors there are muted this year just because we haven’t gotten much moisture. Social and I are meeting on the other side of the mountain Sunday to have a world’s famous burger at the Shooting Star. It’s the oldest bar in Utah and in Huntsville where the Osmonds are from. You know, Donny and Marie….

Enjoy your meet-up with Social
I'm sure it will be fun.
I remember a photo you once posted, a long time ago in a vey old hamburger saloon. I think you were meeting your aunt or uncle. Is it the same place?
Yes I’ve posted a photo of the sign before like in the pictur
in the article. It also shows a little of what it looks like inside. I’ve never liked the head of Buck mounted on the wall, but I feel that way about all stuffed animals. But he’s been there since forever…
There are 6 booths inside and a pool table and a jukebox with very old and corny songs. Jimmy Buffett's 'why don’t we get drunk and screw' and. ‘Wagon Train' and others like that. It’s what makes the place what it is.
Yes I went there for my birthday 2 years ago. After we eat we’re taking Sam swimming. Wish you could join us! You’ll be there in spirit.
Sam and I are having wine and cheese tonight. She doesn’t like wine tho…

What about beer for Sam ; )
I’m glad there are still places frozen in time.
Thank you for including me in spirit, I’m sure I would enjoy meeting you, Sam and Social, and I love to swim.
Your first photo is outrageous, Ms. jb.
And I love all the other pics. Got my weekly visual fix.
Thank you all, and Rec'd!!
