Friday Night Photos Snowy Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 09/16/2022 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
I was planning on posting photos from this months camera club light painting photo shoot on Tuesday. Unfortunately my ticker had other ideas and I spent Tuesday and Wednesday in the hospital with an irregular heartbeat. Thankfully the problem is not serious or life threatening and is under control with the help of meds and I'm now back to my usual abnormal self. Hope everyone else is feeling well and healthy.
Since I missed out on the light painting I went to Santee Lakes yesterday morning and got some shots of a Snowy Egret catching breakfast. It was so overjoyed with it's catch it started doing the happy dance.

Hi Social
You’ve caught the very moment the egret's beak pulled the fish from the water. You can see the water flying off the fish as it flaps around.
I’m happy to hear your heart is good again, and that it’s nothing serious and can be managed. My heart would have also probably gone a little off in anticipating drawing with light ; ).
Very nice rhythms in the music you posted, good for the heart and hips.
Night and Day …
Enjoy the weekend all and be well
hi, what is it in the second picture? /nt
https://www.euronews.com/live
looks like drift wood in the sand
also like the back hackles of the Loch Ness monster
hi mimi
I also thought it looked like
some kind of dragon creature.
Hi mimi!
Don't blame your eyes ;).
It's leftover Pohutakawa wood from a beach fire, embedded in the sand and uncovered with the tide.
How is your sight at the moment? Have you decided whether or not to do the other eye?
Hi, sure if will have to do the right eye surgery as well
everything needs to be balanced out Just takes s along time to get the next surgery appointment.
As you know everything looks foobar right now. I have to fight the depressions, which visit me every so often tooth and nails these days.
well I can read with a magnifying glas between the computer screen and my eyes. I think I would make a funny cartoon.
Do you have funny jokes? I am running out of them ...

Hi, Janis
The only problem with missing out on the light painting is I don't know when the opportunity will come around again.
Love both shots, especially the driftwood serpent.
You have a good weekend as well.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
What about painting yourself with ultraviolet paint,
and taking a self portrait!
That's an idea.
Although I don't know if anybody really wants to see a self portrait of me.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
I would for one,
but I'm not sure I would do it myself ; ).
No ultraviolet paint,
but a self portrait I took 10 years ago. I still have all the hair. It just has a little more gray in it now.

That's not exactly how I pictured you except for maybe the Hawaiian flower and auto shirt. You can see your eyes which makes it even stranger. You're not abnormal, no, not much ; ).
awesome SP!
you really rock that look bro!

The hard part
was getting the hair combed over the front of my face then putting the glasses on without moving the hair.

great pics Janis!
What a tragedy I heard about in NZ with the overturning boat with the N.Z. photographers society field trip on board!?!? Hard to find much about it here though... Hoping to get more details. Did they determine if it was a whale? I visit a NZ bird photogs site with pics of all the seabirds there at Kirakou or whatever it is, it is a MUST VISIT spots to go for birders. Albatross close to shore, etc. My heart hurts for the Kiwis.
Thanks for the great images as always!
be well!

Be well and bright always
Get a lot of those egret types around here
strange birds, fun to watch
always seem so serious and focused
birds are like eyes in the skies
thanks for hosting social!
Hi, QMS.
The snowy' are fun to watch when they're on the hunt for a meal. They walk along the shoreline tapping their feet on the bottom to stir up the fish hiding in the reeds.
Nice AP selection

Hi pixelators
Hi all, Hey SP! Hope all are well! Especially our esteemed host! Take more photos, do less work.
GREAT Snowy Egret photos SP! White is hard to shoot well. Try a swan in the snow for a challenge. Your egret shots are outstanding! Snowys will walk with a slow gait sometimes, and shake its bright yellow feet (golden slippers) in front of itself to scare something up down in the water, and then stab it. Watch Reddish Egret vids on utube. They run around like drunken sailors stabbing after stuff, it can be hilarious. One in Asia makes a cone with its wings over its body to create a circle of shade which attracts fish, and cuts glare out, which seems very effective.
Sure enough SP, last Saturday at least 10 Frigatebirds were seen from shore along San Diego Co. coast, most around Loma. One male has been coming in about 4 p.m. over the Hyatt downtown. Good numbers of boobies were offshore seen on a pelagic birding trip on Sunday, as well as a few mega rare species. The storm blew some good birds north. A couple Frigatebirds were seen up at LA harbor or San Pedro area.
Hope all are well!

Hi, dystopian
Work? I'm retired. Can't do less work than that.
I'm going to the zoo on Monday. Maybe when I'm done I'll go to Pt Loma and see if I can spot a Frigatebird.

Here are some coral pics...
These are some Acropora. This is a large genus of corals, often surface growing types at the top of reefs. There are countless species, nearing a couple hundred are mari-cultured around the Pacific. Bali and Indonesia are big on it. Many family coral farms, and they are great reef protectors, unlike say the dynamite fisherman. The first three were photographed by one of my suppliers in Indonesia, the next two from an Australia supplier. People are nuts about these in the hobby. Some Acros can grow a half inch in a month or two. Most now in the hobby are farmed. There is a large Acro 'fragging' industry in America. They cut them up and grow 20 new ones, one from the each branch on the coral. Some go for $100 for an inch frag if just the right colors and type. They require excellent conditions and generally are not considered a beginners coral.
Acropora hyacinthus
Acropora microclados
Acropora secale
probably Acropora tenuis
Acropora millepora
Take care all!

Those are some colorful coral.
I hope climate change doesn't kill them like it has in other reefs in the Pacific.

Awesome pics SP. Egrets have a special place in my heart. Glad to hear that your heart is doing better. Funny how we rarely pay attention to our heart until something goes weird with it and boy that’s scary.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Thank you, Snoopy
I think that's just human nature not to think about our bodies until something goes wrong. Kind of that out of sight out of mind thing.

Mine is still giving me a scare
I’ll be surfing the web and watching tv when my heart rate starts going up. Even when it’s still in the 80's it just feels wrong as it continues to rise. All tests on it have been normal which should put me at ease, but it’s still scary when it happens. This started a year ago and it’s finally happening less frequently, but it still goes up too much when I’m just walking. My BP goes up too and that’s what worries me. I knew I’d get old one day, but I didn’t think it’d be when I was this young.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Glad to hear your heart is
A-OK, Sp. Lifesaving surgery 20+ years ago and just aging have caused me to have a minor off beat in one section of the old ticker. A daily, very light dose of heart med normalized it. Having genetic low BP helps too, but I keep an eye on that. Just part of life. Appreciate the diary and comments. Everyone stay well. Also glad to hear that CA is getting much needed rain.
