Cynical or stupid, corrupt or incompetant?

This morning I saw a video criticizing "Liz Truss' energy policy". The gist was:
1, by capping out of pocket energy bills at $2500/yr (actually pounds, but $s are less confusing to Americans and my computer doesn't have a pound symbol) all the money will eventually go to the rich. And,
2, since all bills will exceed $2500/yr no matter what there is no incentive to reduce usage.
Things are even worse. A cap on bills - with the government responsible for the difference - will cost the government hundreds of billions, and, being a conservative government, it will demand cuts in services "to pay for it." (privatize the NHS) Then what will happen when the government "gives" hundreds of billions, most of it to the consuming class? They will spend it. That's how the rich will get it all in the end, even without inflation.

BTW, I was also thinking about abortion. I have seen videos claiming both that abortion will "save" the Democratic Party and fizzle completely. The former seems wore likely, but I'm not that sure. Emotions are running hot right now, but for how long? Question: how many state lines does the average American woman have to cross to get to the nearest abortion clinic? (I don't know. Supposedly the answer was 2, but my source is a newspaper article from 40 years ago, so my info/memory is likely wrong) Anyway, how much will voting Democratic affect the average woman? Say the Ds win. Nancy Pelosi will be reelected speaker, Biden will find a reason to fail to codify Roe, and Nancy will see to it that abortion rights will never get to the floor in the house. More states will restrict or outright ban abortion and wealthy women will be mildly inconvenienced.

It’s just like what we have done so many times when we gave money to banks and to corporations after they shutdown the country. All those corporations had been buying their stock and hoarding their money and they should have had to use it before congress gave them their billions. And how about the PPP loans to keep their business afloat and then they didn’t have to pay it back even though they fired or layed off employees. I see what Tushie is doing as a continuation of that.

on both topics. TPTB are not stupid, not incompetent at reaching their goals. The are not cynical, but gleeful.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

It's all about setting up a phony narrative. Declare something a "crisis" - even create something to call a crisis - give huge amounts of money to donors, use that as an excuse to withhold money from real needs. It doesn't have to be true, it doesn't even have to be believable. It just has to be part of the narrative. Everything's a game of Calvinball and they always win.

On to Biden since 1973

Ania K and Alex Christoforou about the unelected globalist government of the EU vis-a-vis the conflict against Russia that is literally destroying Europe. They also discuss the fact that Russia HAS to take the gloves of. This is a conflict, not with Ukraine, but a war with NATO.

Well worth your time to view. It will give a very important perspective of what is going on in Europe, Ukraine and Russia.

with the Nov election still 2 months away. But what is certain is that D chances of maintaining control of Congress have greatly increased since Dobbs. Chances have increased, but also it's no sure thing they will still have a majority in both chambers. I seriously doubt voters will forget abortion as a driving issue. It's up to the individual D candidates to run an aggressive race and tie their R opponents to Dobbs and Trump, as opposed to the D tendency to go above-the-fray Dukakis.

Also unlikely, and far too cynical, that Nancy and Biden would take a strong midterm showing and then fumble the ball on codifying Roe, and I'm not remotely a fan of either Nancy or Joe. Failure to act at that point would be political suicide for them and their party, and I don't see either as being that politically incompetent or deaf.

@wokkamile

But I predict an utter slaughter of the dims in Nov....at both the state and national level.

The scariest part of that to me is the possible state swing to push a constitution convention upon us... talk about lose lose.

“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

@Lookout a surprise, rather a major upset given recent trends, if there were a GOP slaughter. Of course, they've been doing their utmost to try to rig election systems in various states, so anything is possible.

While this trend for Ds can be oversold, they do have in their favor declining prices at the gas pump, a huge issue back in the Spring which is not so hot now with prices way down, and the Dobbs decision, which played out favorably for them in Kansas, as nearly a red a state as they come. Several special elections have gone Ds' way, and they have greatly improved their vote total in hardcore DJT congressional areas from some summer elections.

Again, no predictions this early. And Ds need to play it like they're 4 points behind everywhere. Be aggressive, like in this clip from Al Franken. If Al had been this tough a few yrs ago, he might still be in the senate. https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2022/09/10/scotus-kamala-harris-robe...

Actually, probably not, as his boss Chuck Schumer advised him to refrain from public comments and let the senate ethics committee deal with it, make his case there. But he never got the chance as the MeTooers in the senate, on the D side, rushed to judgment and worried about looking soft on sexual harassment, so that committee never heard his side and never met to my knowledge. He was quickly shoved out the door. Still wish he had fought harder to keep his job, but so much was going against him.

@Lookout Feingold video later. What a shame he's no longer in the senate. A constitutional convention promoted by Rs would def go after civil rights, elections (their bogus "Independent State Legislature" theory to decide elections), the environment and Church-State separation, to name a few items of interest.

Fortunately, while Rs are slowly creeping up on the number of states (34) to call one, they would still need 3/4 or 38 states to endorse any amendment. However, they currently control 30 state legislatures, so they aren't too far off from their goal.

and republicans will take the senate or vice versus. It’s a great excuse for Biden not to be able to get his agenda passed. The good news is that if republicans take the house Pelosi will retire and take an ambassadorship to Italy where she can meet her mob related family.

I want term limits on congress. No one should be able to park their buttocks in congress their whole lives and get rich from doing it. Some pharmacist said that he’s writing for many Alzheimer’s drugs for people in congress. Feinstein is definitely one of them as is Biden. Remember how incognizant he sounded when he was stuck in his basement during the primary?
