Here's Why the Conversations in these Threads are Important

Have we grown too thin skinned to accept other opinions? Have we become so divided that we wont listen to each other anymore?

It's important that we have these discussions, even with the acrimony. It's how we learn from each other. Both sides of the issues, on the same site, in black and white, I know it's a novel idea in this day and age. That's why c99 is an open discussion zone. Free range politics means we chickens can roam wherever we want.

Have you ever visited an echo chamber of a site, but stopped short of commenting because of the animosity, knowing you'll be banned for speaking up? You can do that here, for the world to see. There are folks that read this site every day, looking for answers. You wont find any answers in an echo chamber, unless one is looking for bias confirmation.

The world is running hot, so are emotions, I get that. We are all seeking understanding in a world gone mad where the truth is obfuscated by the constant drum beat of propaganda.

Now is not the time to shut up. I'm afraid that if we don't get our act together, soon, we are all done. At that juncture, who is right and who is wrong becomes a moot point. Forever.

We stand on the rim of the abyss, has there ever been a more existential time period in history? We slow walked to the edge but we now look determined to expeditiously sacrifice ourselves because of ourselves.

I'm a firm believer in free speech, I mean it. C99 will stand firm in it's convictions.

essay that would fit right here.
We all need as much information as possible to survive.
Refusing to allow yourself to be educated by studying opposing or different views is self-defeating.
If you truly believe your opinion or posture is correct and no amount of information will ever change it, all you can do is hope and possibly pray, if you are so inclined, that whatever formed the basis for your was actually true.
I have been proven wrong when I examined information and evidence from other sources. It didn't hurt. It helped.

I am so grateful for this site. I feel like I can breathe more easily when I am here. This is such a safe haven in such an insane world. Thank you.

...isn't a secure place to be, but it is our fate in these times.

I'm glad to have this community to commiserate our sorry state.
All the best!

I used to stop by this web site once or twice a month. Lately it has seemed to be further and further extreme and narrow at the same time. I mean when an opinion is out of line with 99% of the free democracies of the world one should expect that at some point someone might wander by with a difference of opinion, ya?

I'm most reminded of right wingers I run into on the net. Wild accusations backed up with links to obscure web sites that they think I will read. I think maybe it's the fault of the internet itself. A very small slice of society can become "everyone" when they are all in the same herd.

@JtC Yes, I assume everyone. I also assume everyone is broadly left leaning? No MAGAs? Not that I have anything against magas, that's just not the vibe I got.

@JtC Or maybe there is a strong "conservative" segment here? It mostly feels anti American, but I could be wrong.

are anti war and are pissed that Biden is throwing billions to the defense industries which left leaning people were once against because they thought that money would be better spent here at home. But now the people who once protested the Iraq war are now gang ho for the Ukraine war and support real Nazis that we have been training since long before Obama overthrew Ukraine’s president. Those same people were once against regime change too, but ever since democrats ran their Russia Russia psyops on them that’s acceptable now as long as it’s targeted at Russia. Democrats have manufactured Russian xenophobia and consent for war and I’m appalled by the number of people who can’t see that. This conflict could have been easily avoided if Biden had sat down with Putin and discussed how NATO expanding into Ukraine was a threat to Russia’s security.

You might learn how bad the media pushes propaganda on us by watching the Jimmy video posted here and reading student of the earth's brilliant comment on what happened after Obama rescinded the Smith-Mundt act. The sources you use, the AP and Reuters are nothing more than government mouthpieces. Journalists write about things that the government doesn’t want people to know. Propagandists write about the things the government wants people to believe.

Will you ever answer my question about how America would react if Russia overthrew Mexico’s president and not only installed a puppet president, but gave Mexico billions in weapons including nuclear ones? Wouldn’t you see that as a direct threat to America’s security?

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@ban nock
probably a few commies too.

I wouldn't exactly say anti-American, c99 is more anti-war, but to some, I guess, that would have the same meaning.

Yeh, that sentence is very DKos'ish. it's OK to say this, but not without specific examples.

Or maybe there is a strong "conservative" segment here? It mostly feels anti American, but I could be wrong.

Those are contradictory sentences. No one ever accuses people on the right of being "anti-American". The political spectrum on the right ranges from "patriotic" to "jingoism".
Only people on the left are "anti-American", and that accusation usually involves someone pointing out something wrong with the country because they think the country can do better. That's why I always consider someone accusing me of being anti-American as a compliment.

Good grief who will Biden blame next? Probably the voters who didn’t vote for him.
