China sees less than 100 daily new local COVID-19 cases for 3 days: official

BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- The number of daily locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and asymptomatic carriers reported on the Chinese mainland has been below 100 for the past three days, an official said Thursday.

Measures against local and imported infections as well as the dynamic zero-COVID policy must be firmly upheld, Mi Feng, spokesperson for the National Health Commission, said at a press conference.

Mi urged efforts for early discovery and treatment as well as anti-virus measures in high-risk scenarios to avoid cluster infections or epidemic resurgence.

Over 110,000 child COVID-19 cases reported in U.S. in past week

LOS ANGELES, May 31 (Xinhua) -- More than 112,000 child COVID-19 cases were reported in the United States during the past week, a doubling of case counts from the four weeks prior, according to the latest report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children's Hospital Association.

It marks the seventh consecutive weekly increase in child COVID-19 cases in the United States, said the report published on Tuesday.

Nearly 5.5 million child COVID-19 cases have been added nationwide so far in 2022.
Children represent 18.9 percent of all COVID-19 cases in the United States, according to the report.

"It is important to recognize there are immediate effects of the pandemic on children's health, but importantly we need to identify and address the long-lasting impacts on the physical, mental, and social well-being of this generation of children and youth," it said.

LOS ANGELES, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States was above 110,000 a day during the Memorial Day weekend, five times that of the year before, said a report of American weekly magazine People.

The daily average is also a "significant undercount," with most people testing positive on rapid tests that go unreported or foregoing testing altogether, said the report published on Tuesday.
COVID-19 case numbers are once again high this spring with Omicron and its subvariants BA.2 and BA.2.12.1 easily infecting people, even those who are vaccinated and boosted, said the report.

Large portions of the country, particularly the Northwest, Midwest, Florida and the West Coast, are seeing medium or high levels of transmission, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The United States has reported over 83 million COVID-19 cases and more than 1 million related deaths since the onset of the pandemic in the country, the latest figures released by the CDC showed.

Trials show China's intranasal COVID-19 vaccine effective

BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- A China-developed intranasal vaccine against COVID-19 has shown to be safe and effective in early-stage human trials, according to a new study published in the journal The Lancet Respiratory Medicine.

Compared with currently available COVID-19 vaccines that are administered by intramuscular injection, the new drug, coded dNS1-RBD, is a two-dose, live-attenuated influenza vaccine given through the nose. It was jointly developed by Xiamen University, the University of Hong Kong and Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy Enterprise.

Researchers conducted phase-1 and phase-2 trials at hospitals in east China's Jiangsu Province from September 2020 to July 2021. More than 1,000 healthy adults aged between 18 and 86 were enrolled in the trials, which were randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled.

According to the study, one month after the second dose, the immune responses were observed in the vaccine recipients. The proportion of responders was 40 percent, which was, significantly higher than that in the placebo group.

The study also highlighted that the needle-free vaccine was well tolerated by all participants. Its efficacy in older adults (aged 60 and above) was similar to that in younger recipients (aged between 18 and 59).

Most adverse reactions were mild or moderate flu-like symptoms, such as rhinorrhoea, fever, and fatigue. No serious adverse events were reported after vaccination.

The phase-3 trials with more participants are currently underway in the Philippines, South Africa, Vietnam and Colombia to test the efficacy of the Chinese vaccine, said the study.

The vaccine candidate is introduced to a cold-adapted influenza strain, into which receptor-binding domain genes from SARS-CoV-2 are inserted by gene reassortment.

In the preclinical study, the vaccine showed rapid, long-lasting, and broad protection against the SARS-CoV-2 challenge in mice. According to vaccine makers, nine months after two doses of dNS1-RBD, the protective effect against the SARS-CoV-2 beta variant remained as good as that against the original strain of the virus.

and have noticed that 10 minutes of daily hate for all things Russia. There are lots of little field marshals and they all seem to only use mainstream media sources. The biggest change I’ve seen in the last few weeks was that maybe Russia isn’t going to lose the war so quickly or run out of ammunition and bombs which they were predicting at the start. But apparently Russia is still using conscripts to fight the war instead of the main military.

It’s times like these that I’m sad I’m banned, but anyone who doesn’t go with Russia bad for fighting an unprovoked war gets hr'd into oblivion. Everyone else parrots the media talking points. Lots of people are pushing for Biden to send heavier offensive weapons and especially the bombs that can reach deep into Russia.
