employee of the month. I remember those fields, but it's been ages since I've been there.

For once I can be somewhat topical, on a whim I snapped some shots in the yards just to get some sort of use out of my camera.

Thanks for showing us your spring garden. I don't think I've ever seen a white poppy before. I wonder if it has special poppy qualities. It is so delicate, thank you.

@enhydra lutris Great stuff EL! Nice poppies. There are a couple small butterflies that often hit Redbuds, one is a neat brown one, the group is called Elfin, I forget which you have there. They have a real odd scalloped hindwing with a tail. They are an early spring only flier in lots of places (where I am, maybe a 60 day flight period for adults). I see lots of those damn-if-I-knows. As some of my favorite Brits said when they were being held-up for their Lupines, "I'm not a bleedin' botanist!"

be well, take care!

The one with the bee is incredible. Our daffodils have bloomed already. I think it’s early, most of the trees are budding too. Love this time of year!

The only real signs of spring this year in southern Michigan, is the mating of the avian wildlife.
It's been wet and cold so far with temperature swings of 40 and 50 degrees weekly.
Still around 45 days until last frost so I'm really in no hurry to plant the garden but I have started my Blue Dream seeds.

dystopian's picture

@snoopydawg Pretty sure the butterfly is an Acmon Blue. The birds are Great Egret. I think the bonds for many animals is dependent on the type of social life they lead. Things like whales or elephants that live long lives in tight close extended family groups, probably have very strong bonds. As evidenced by many stories of observations of the group when one of a group dies. But when animals live more solitary existences, it is not likely that close tight type of bond we think of as 'near dear ones' with. Birds or butterflies would not likely recognize their own offspring two years later. Apes, cetaceans, many large mammals probably would. Degree of parental care likely is another major factor, being highly developed in the animals with more highly developed social structures. Neat pics!

I gotta fly...

@Socialprogressive blooming. Smile The other two hide their blooms but you can spot them cos they smell like coconuts. They're thriving so blooms will come. No, no pics. I'm no photog, seriously. I shake my head over my orchid posse cos normally, all I have to do is walk by a plant and it wilts.
