Red Carpet Day - Open Thread

Today was the big day, the world premiere of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in London. Most of the stars were there, posed for pictures, and were interviewed. (Ezra Miller, having gotten into legal trouble again, was absent.)

Even JK Rowling showed up and posed, though her interview was not made public - were they afraid she would stick her foot (or both feet) in her mouth again?

Preliminary critical reception of the movie was strongly positive, though no secrets have been given away - yet.

The film is having a staggered release from April 6 (Netherlands), 7 (Australia, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal), 8 (China, Spain, Finland, UK, Iceland, Japan, Sweden) through the 15th (Argentina, Canada, Ireland, India, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Latvia, Philippines, Turkey, and USA), with Slovakia having to wait until July (date not yet announced, nor the reason for the delay).

Williams seems to be a goofball about "laws".

and smartassed herself into a lot of flak.

It's not the first time she's been publicly smartass and gotten flak - sometime before that, she tried to get all cutesy-pootsy about what wizards did before the introduction of flush toilets. This led to one of two conclusions: 1) she was trolling the fans (which does not reflect well on her opinion of their intelligence), or 2) (rather less likely IMHO) she knew absolutely zercho about the history of indoor plumbing. (Does the word "garderobe" ring any bells?)

There is no justice. There can be no peace.

@TheOtherMaven I admit, celebrities are really uninteresting to me.
Still, it amuses me when they commit public faux pas.

Usually built into the outer walls of the castle with a chute into the moat. (This could be a weak point in the castle's defenses, and at least one castle was infiltrated via the garderobe chute.)

Hogwarts probably had garderobes before flush johns, and my personal head canon is that Salazar Slytherin directed the chutes into the Chamber of Secrets to keep his basilisk fed, neatly solving two problems at once. (Too bad JKR never thought of that!!)

@TheOtherMaven @TheOtherMaven My toilet history is limited.
Ok...the social standard of men walking to the right of women on sidewalks was so the women would not be at risk having poo tossed on them when walking by houses in England. Windows, you know. Easy to empty those pans. Let someone else worry about it.
Edit: Sitting on the porch, envisioning it, I realize it was also to block the mud from the carriages. The badass men took the muddy water for their womenfolk.
