The King of the Krewe Zulu, showing his stuff to the sound of jazzy music.

Happy Carnival! Can't help myself, but this is the day that all stops are pulled for a full blown
party. Parades and music all day long in New Orleans town and other places.
Right up until midnight when the horse mounted coppers clear the Quarter followed by the fire engine pumper trucks to hose-down all evidence of debauchery. Partial disclosure: I am not even close to being catholic, so Lent doesn't stop any ideas of giving up on a good time. Laissez les bon temps rouler !

Tonights theater of the absurd will be brought to you by an actor
dressed up as the head of state reading a speech to the assembled
co-conspirators of congress in the play called
State of the Onion

The critics have labeled this play variously as 'dark comedy',
'a real stretch' and 'descriptions of a dystopian parallel reality'.

Tune in around 9 PM eastern at your peril.

I was just wondering, how many casualties are the Russian imperialist invaders experiencing per the first week of engagement in Ukraine compared to Afghanistan 1.0 or to the US when it invaded Iraq?

Former Catholic. The only part I miss is eating authentic Paczki. A Polish desert pronounced as punch key. I did find some a few years ago at a grocery store. Didn't even look this year. Bakery items are too expensive like just about everything else at the grocery store.

I did get a King Cake from a food giveaway a couple of weeks ago. Why so early, I have no idea. They do not put the baby in the cake because Americans are so stupid that they would swallow and choke on it, so you have to put it in yourself. It came with a white and black baby. Even King Cakes have become politically-correct now.

As for Lent, most Catholics no longer give up things. Instead, they are doing things like not buying groceries and eating out of their pantry so that they don't waste food. Another idea is to give away 40 items in 40 days.

@Enchantress

It was said whoever got the little plastic buried baby in their slice
was required to buy the cake for the next year. I got that once.
Can't remember if I ever made good on that particular onus.

Can you disband it it, what would it mean? Can you kill it? I guess it would just produce a NATO 2.0 edition.

It doesn't look like NATO is protecting us from something, more that it causes problems for most.

What would it take? That one NATO member state after the other declares they want to quit being a member state?

Pfft. Insanity you are my middle name, I guess. Down with the NATO! Yes to WAR, BOMB YOURSELF.

LONG LIVE THE IDIOTS.

up

@mimi

would be to stop funding it. I don't expect the US to do that anytime soon, as it seems the
lions share of funds runs thru our treasury. Do the EU members wish to cash-out in favor
of having additional monies available to domestic needs? I would think yes. Does the population
of the US want to see military expenditures applied instead to the failing infrastructure here
at home? Again, my guess is yes. Like you, we do not have a say in where congress spends
our monies. What else is there to do? If the dollar goes into the toilet, as it seems is happening,
then all the bucks in the world won't solve the perpetual war scheme. Therefore goes NATO.

@mimi wait a bit longer, maybe NATO is busy destroying itself. Everything is corrupt.

I know it's easy for me to say have patience, I'm not inches away from the front lines on my map but you are. All I can do is send out the peace and love words. They are only words, but what is everything else here and all over the internets every damn day? It's either filling my head with love, or yet another two minutes of hate. I'm exhausted, want this madness to end. Then I can get back to worrying about where to live when this property sells. okay

from the 'frontlines'.

Hamburg in Germany is around 900 miles away from Kiev. That would be the distance round about New York to Montgomery. Or the distance between Washington DC to Detroit .You better not believe it because I can't find two cities in the US that are 900 miles apart.

Sigh. I am not scared yet a bomb would hit Hamburg in Germany, unless our Chancellor Scholz gets as insane as some other lusty bomb lovers. So far he is not.

PS: Don't give up, eyo. I know how it feels to fear any day to not have a place, dry and with the right temperature.

My son tells me, he starts to think about it, when it actually happens, which could be tomorrow or any other day. so, it does not make sense to worry, he says.

Peace and Love from a German Peace and Love lover. Smile

California coast is about 750 miles north to south, from Weed to San Diego. heh I looked it up on pursuantmedia dot com, a place I never saw before.

Do warships have a right to innocent passage?

Subject to this Convention, ships of all States, whether coastal or land-locked, enjoy the right of innocent passage through the territorial sea. Passage is innocent so long as it is not prejudicial to the peace, good order or security of the coastal State.

I was curious, it is only 14 nautical miles distance from where a bunch of hostile maritimers could flatten this entire state in das blinken eye. Aim for the Salesforce obscenity, that's what I say! Getting rid of that skyline eyesore would be gravy.
...

What do you mean by waters of the state?

“Waters of the state” • Defined more broadly than “waters of the United States” • Means “any surface water or groundwater, including saline waters, within the boundaries of the state” (Water Code section 13050(e)) • Broadly construed to include all waters within the state’s boundaries, whether private or public, including waters

and there my browser cuts it off. I think they wanted to finish with "including waters that flow in and out your bank account, because Kamala Harris loves war." mwahaha

Yesterday I kept confusing ss with the stasi from east berlin. BigTech is the western stasi, that's how it feels living here. Got a problem? Make a database!

lovely here...hope you're having nice weather too. Enjoyed strolling trade day and visiting with folks today. No purchases, but a fun visit to town. Swung by the grocery on the way home for a few items.

Still planting onions today. I'm avoiding the pro-war MSM coverage filled with Russiahate. So curious how we can invade countries all over the world without the same condemnation.

Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday. Carnival celebrations in New Orleans, Venice and Rio and many other places around the world.

We usually associate Mardi Gras with New Orleans and all the parade revelry in the French Quarter and Uptown. But the oldest carnival celebration as we know it—parades, masked balls, kings and queens, and mystic societies—happened in Mobile, Alabama.
...
Mobile Mardi Gras was first celebrated in 1703. But things really got crankin' in 1831, when a tipsy cotton broker tied some cowbells to a rake that had just hit him over the head . . .

Already gone.

Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy was born to Jewish parents on 25 January 1978 in Kryvyi Rih, then in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. His father, Oleksandr Zelenskyy, is a professor and the head of the Department of Cybernetics and Computing Hardware at the Kryvyi Rih State University of Economics and Technology; his mother, Rymma Zelenska, used to work as an engineer. His grandfather, Semyon (Simon) Ivanovych Zelenskyy, served in the Red Army (in the 57th Guards Motor Rifle Division) during World War II; Semyon's father and three brothers were murdered in the Holocaust.

@ggersh @ggersh is not something I understand.

What I do understand is Oil Market prices.

WTI and The Brent are now well above $100 per barrel---$5 above last time I checked.

The $100 per barrel price is the point at which money can be made on extraction of more deeply inaccesible oil.

Going after Tar Sand Oil and Fracking will now produce profit.

Coming soon--- the drilling will commence and the environmental collapse will accelerate.

Treme

“Won’t bow down. Don’t know how.” A place of pride and refuge for New Orleans’ free people of color who could buy property here, the Faubourg Treme – as far back as its founding in the 18th Century – served as cultural rendezvous between the worlds of white and black while its back streets birthed a music that conquered the world.

@QMS is an HBO mini-series authored by David Simon who also gave us The Wire.

Treme was just as good as The Wire but did not get the tremendous acclaim the The Wire did. No doubt because the politics were so harsh.

If you have not seen it and can do so give yourself a treat---it showcases New Orleans food, music, Police Dept. with a Rolling Stone imitator covering the Katrina story, starting 3 weeks after the Storm.

The coverage of New Orleans Public School system disappearing and the way perfectly sound housing was declared "unsafe" when not a drop of water had touched them teaches anybody new to USA reality some very difficult lessons.
