Democrats embrace "Modern Supply-Side Economics"

I bet you didn't think that the Democrats, after letting the neo-cons into the party and falling in love with the CIA, could get any worse. Well, you would be wrong.

The president dropped his first hint in a speech on Jan. 7, in which he said “if car prices are too high right now, there are two solutions: You increase the supply of cars by making more of them, or you reduce demand for cars by making Americans poorer.” He stressed that his administration preferred the first course of action.

Then two weeks later, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen used the term “modern supply-side economics” to describe Build Back Better and Biden’s wider economic agenda.

New York Times columnist Ezra Klein tweeted an excerpt from the speech with the comment: “Into. My. Veins.”

Klein was understandably excited, as he’s been championing the idea that liberals ought to embrace a version of supply-side thinking. He’s not alone: A host of economists, such as Eli Dourado at Utah State University, have been promoting what they call “progressive supply-side economics.” Miles Kimball at the University of Colorado at Boulder has been writing a blog since 2012 titled Confessions of a Supply-Side Liberal.

Biden made his lengthy Senate career a deep part of his presidential campaign, and he’s familiar with the Supreme Court process, having previously served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Biden hosted Sen. Chuck Grassley (Iowa), the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, and Durbin in a high-profile visit, characterizing the meeting as bringing “two good friends down here” to the White House.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) also gave the White House high marks for its outreach to Republican senators, including himself.

“I want to give them high marks for reaching out. The White House has done a good job of reaching out to Republicans getting input. I'll give them high marks for that,” Graham said.

Graham also used the call to lobby for Biden to pick J. Michelle Childs, who is currently a federal district judge in South Carolina. Graham predicted that she would get bipartisan support and warned that supporting other nominees being floated would be a “much more problematic” vote for him.

In addition to talking with the White House, Murkowski, Collins and Grassley have all had Durbin reach out to them.

Durbin said that his message to Grassley, in particular, was that there would be “no surprises” and that he would “would never stab him in the back.”

Also climate. If everybody in the world owns cars and houses, even motor scooters then think of all the carbon that is produced.

Poverty of the vast majority, truly bestial grinding poverty will reduce use of fossil fuels and allowthe essential workers to keep consuming more and more. Poor People will move to tropical climes, live in the forest and burn wood for fire. Live in tipis and wear loinclothes. This will balance out the rich and their superyachts and business jets.
