How can anyone view this chart as evidence of anything except - at best - complete vaccine failure? Where is the left?
The question for this era.
I define myself as a leftist. I look for political action to support workers, increase citizens access to power and agency (democracy?), consumer protections, just and humane treatment of citizens (including minimizing war and human rights violations), ensuring free press and free speech. That is just a spur of the moment definition of what it means to ME to be a leftist.
Based on that definition the Democratic Party has completely abandoned me. This truckers movement is very revealing. As a Minneapolis resident the Truckers Strike of 1934 is a significant part of our local lore and legend. (At least for us Leftists). To see current Dems mocking and ridiculing the current truckers movement, to see them supporting censorship, to see them pushing very poorly tested vaccines, supporting imprisonment of Assange, and now the saber rattling to start WW3 has left me feeling that there is not a single thing good left within that party. (Add CA and NY blocking single payer to that list).
Where are my people? Oddly, while I can not have conversations with dyed in the wool Dems, I can have good and meaningful conversations with Reps. Of course we have lots of philosophical differences, but they seem more concerned about the long term well being of this country than Dems. Not enough to ever get me to vote for a Rep. But at least I can converse with Rep citizens.
Are Republicans becoming the new left in this nation? Standing against censorship? Check. Supporting Trumps aid plan for workers and small businesses? Check. Being very slightly less war like? Check. Supporting citizen movements to increase access to power and agency? Check.
What a strange world we live in.
I guess this rant might not belong in The Dose, but this pandemic has sure exposed all of the weaknesses of the D party.

I’d say it’s more like the true left is unrepresented by any political party. I think most people here represent the true left that is all that’s left of the DP. It’s true that they have abandoned us because they have abandoned the ideals that they once stood for. They hammered the last nail in the coffin during Clinton’s tenure when they sold out to the Kochs, big business and Wall Street. It’s when they abandoned unions and the working class.
I’m with wouldsman. I still uphold the values that democrats once believed in and I classify myself as a humanist. Libras are represented as standing for justice and it’s why we have the scales of justice as our avatar. It’s why injustices not only piss me off, but actually hurt my soul. What good are all those healthy testicles when there is a scarcity of available future moms?
Rumors flew that a cancer cure had been found or invented, and patented, and hidden. After all, there is no money to be derived from a cured, healthy, former patient. As far as I know thimerosol is no longer used in vaccines. So unless they use it, or some other similarly dangerous substance, (unlikely, i hope!) at least as far as that problem goes, they are likely not going to cause this problem (which was almost certainly unintentional) Also people have to face- in a rigidly hierarchical society such as ours the media is never going to tell you certain kinds of things, and if you tell other people this you will get attacked for telling people the truth.

A long time ago, many drugs and things like eye drops, nasal sprays, etc, used thimerosal, a preservative - thimerosal contained a small amount of elemental mercury, which is a powerfully pro-oxidant substance. Because of something that was only recently discovered, it increased the rate of certain kinds of birth defects.. That effect was real and it showed up on statistics. So people imprinted on their suspicion that vaccines were unsafe, but it wasnt the vaccines per se that were dangerous, it was the pro oxidant preservative. Then they eventually claimed it was no longer there. And I have no reason to doubt that. So if you are obsessed with saying I am wrong, you can chew on this. Both parties in the argument had something with some validity to say. However, at the end of the day, you cant explain this situation without telling people about glutathione and the danger of multiple ADDITIVE pro oxidant toxicants (the thing they dont want people knowing and thinking about) (this is the thing they dont want to explain) So if anybody is on a train of thought where they fear they may start talking about how toxicants should be regulated additively, they get attacked. So, how did we get on this subject? A few years ago, a light went on when this issue caused by all pro oxidant substances depleting glutathione, came to light. It was discovered that pro oxidant chemicals all added up - they used the same pathways of toxicity. It was found that NAC which makes glutathione is protective.. NAC is used to make glutathione a thiol (sulfur containing organic molecule) The body's most important detoxifier.. So ialthough some like the FDA (this is very scary) might now, under the current regime tell you NAC "is a drug" its emphatiucally not a drug, its a FOOD a precursor food. Nebulized, its been commercialized and sold as a drug, but that shouldn't be possible. Its a evil thing. Because its a very common molecule.
Imagine if "dihiydrogen monoxide" (water) was patented as this drug that revived people who were dehydrated, and they were addicted to it in order to stay alive. Companies that mined it would become entitled to charge huge amounts for it because you needed it to stay alive. Well get ready for that because the legal framework allowing, no perhaps even requiring it is being pout in place, with GATS.

Of particular importance is identifying mechanisms operative at environmentally relevant toxicant exposure levels. Chemically diverse toxicants exhibit striking convergence, at environmentally relevant exposure levels, on pathway-specific disruption of receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) signaling required for cell division in central nervous system (CNS) progenitor cells. Relatively small toxicant-induced increases in oxidative status are associated with Fyn kinase activation, leading to secondary activation of the c-Cbl ubiquitin ligase. Fyn/c-Cbl pathway activation by these pro-oxidative changes causes specific reductions, in vitro and in vivo, in levels of the c-Cbl target platelet-derived growth factor receptor-alpha and other c-Cbl targets, but not of the TrkC RTK (which is not a c-Cbl target). So why did the note to vulnerable pregnant women vanish as rapidly as it appeared?
My theory for the reason was the following. Take note because it and its implications are important.
As the PLOS Biology article indicates, there is a simple intervention which prevents the birth defects caused by pro oxidant chemicals in the environment. N-acetyl cysteine.
If you are interested in this you can search on those two genes mentioned, in the PubMed databse or elsewhere. You'll find that they also are important in carcinogenesis.
the chemical industry REALLY wants to hide that story because they should be polluting much less. And it really needs to happen. Not get lobbied to death. Because certain kinds of pollutants damage adds up in the body, and causes not only birth defects in the unborn. As we age and our bodies have less of a buffer of glutathione to meet certain challenges from polutants, we need more and more glutathione. Which our body makes from cysteine. Which older people make less of and also our aging flesh uses our cysteine up faster, the more "aged" it is. Because of the Schgiff reaction. Literally the cooking of our own meat. So the cysteine we eat gets used up faster and we need mre the older we get. That also influences how sick a given person gets when they get COVID. Its one of the main things, it turns out. They are almost to the point of saying, as the evidence builds up, that the more glutathione there is in yor body the less severe COVID is, and we know how agressively they are avoiding saying anything like that about anything thats not patented and the subject of a monopoly.
We aren't saying that severe COVIDs worst effects "are preventable" with n-acetyl cysteine. Because it costs almost nothing? No, I didnt say THAT! But I do often tell my friends they should be taing it. And the list of reasons is long. For example, most pollutants that cause adverse effects have those effects reduced to some extent by your body having enough glutathione. Which as you might guess, varies depending on how much of it you nrmally consume (for example, in milk) How cooked your meat is. (Yup) Are you a diabetic? How high is your blood sugar? Google the Schiff reaction. Google "advanced glycation end products"
Cysteine is a food, an amino acid. The highest natural source of it is whey protein.
This is really an important scary problem, because a woman of child bearing age who intends to have children should be taking extra cysteine. They might do this in the form of NAC. In certain highly polluted areas like the Northeast US, where lots of coal is burnt to generate electricity there is a huge amount of mercury in the air, depending on what direction the wind is blowing. its quite simply not safe. Because of all this coal that is being burnt lots of mercury is going into the air, A huge coal powered power plant in Pennsylvania is the source of much of it. If the wind is blowing that plume of pollution towards you the amount of mercury in your air goes up a lot. We have to stop burning this coal. There is also a big problem with wood because elemental mercury is released when wood burns. Also the ash from wood burning is highly inflammatory to the lungs. It causes lung disease, and the inflammation that results lowers your glutathione levels which adversely effects healthy aging.
But the real newsworthy item is not just that Pro-oxidant substances cause birth defects. Its that Americans are being subjected to this situation where to be safe in their communities they must take a supplement to avoid this life changing problem in their unborn children This also has implications for a host of industries many have been polluting for a long time and basically they refuse to stop.
IT means that all pro oxidant substances should be considered as additive when developing action levels for chemical regulation. It requires a new kind of regulation. Otherwise, we're going to see more and more of the kind of birth defect that is modulated by these two genes. Fyn and cCbl.
Unles all wonen of childbearing age take something like a special prenatal vitamin that contains enough NAC to prevent it in all of them. We should all take it actually as more glutathione would assist our body by assisting in chemoprevetion of cancer. It might also help prevent more severe COVID in older people. But they seem to not want to face the fact that an amino acid is so important. But it is. The thing most older people could do is consume more dairy. Milk, yogurt, and cottage cheese/sour cream/cream cheese are all high sources of the amino acid cysteine.
NAC is good to have around. If is also radioprotective, if your local nuclear power plant suffers a loss of the ultimate heatsink.

If the institutional Left is unwilling to lift a finger, then it is up to workers on all sides of the cultural and political divide to take it upon themselves to apply the appropriate amount of popular pressure, even at the risk of personal ruin. That the Left feels it has bigger fish to fry is on the one hand a grave betrayal of its historic rhetoric against capital, and on the other hand in keeping with its century-plus tendency to cozy up to the bourgeoisie when the going gets tough. Who needs them?

Hence they should be stripped of that word and henceforth be known as shitlibs. I just read that Obama might be leaving Spotify too. It’s has nothing to do with Rogan really. They haven’t posted any podcasts in months but they will probably try to make it about him anyway. They apparently want to bring in young people to do shows but Spotify wasn’t too keen on that. I think the owners are in Sweden. But of course if Obama ties it in with Rogan and it starts losing too much money they might rethink Rogan. One inch will turn into a mile.

Toronto & Quebec City all have truck Convoy events tomorrow.
The UK has Convoys setting out from Cardiff in Wales, Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland and from all corners of England to convene in London on Sunday.
If Canada Trucker Convoy in Ottawa fails, none of this may matter. If it continues to grow, as has been promised for this weekend, then many good things remain imaginable. Fingers crossed.

on our recovery from the Omicron variant. A month in, both my wife and I still get bouts of acute skeletal pain about every other week- significantly more than we had before getting the crud, anyway. We are both testing negative, but both of us have had episodes of major lower back pain, in addition to my completely normal and chronic knee pain as my penance for playing football back in the 70s. It is definitely skeletal and not muscular, for me anyway.
When I get what I think to be a Covid-related knee pain spike, I can deal with it with an extra load of aspirin and ibuprofen, plus maybe 20mg of CBD. Or 30. Or 40. And maybe some Adult Beverage. Sometimes I forget. But if this keeps happening through the spring, it'll finally push me over the edge to deal with a pair of total knee replacements. I've known that I needed them for decades, but I was kinda hoping to keel over before having to go through recovery from yet another knee surgery....
We also seem to have some digestive sequelae around, primarily in that we have both had the most appalling bouts of methane production of our lives. My Gawd, we can both blow each other right out of bed and splat against the wall if we're not careful. That seems to go in about a 2-week cycle as well.
On the other hand, it keeps people from standing near us in lines, so perhaps it isn't all bad. On edit- and I have another batch of dill pickle bratwurst soup working on the stove.
So life continues to be, shall we say, interesting at times.

It’s making crap up as they go and hoping that no one will notice what they are doing. 2 jabs don’t work for adults so they are on their 3rd dose and finding that it doesn’t work either to protect against infection. That’s insane enough, but even knowing that 2 doses for kids doesn’t work they want them to get jabbed anyway and hope that maybe the 3rd dose will.
A few months ago when the FDA was considering giving older kids the jab one doctor said that the only way to find out if it works was just to do it and then we’ll find out if they work. This is admitted experimenting on kids without informed consent which is against every fcking law known. I read on HuffPost today about a mom who has been trying to keep her baby safe until he can get jabbed and unfortunately he just tested positive for the Rona. She is going to get him jabbed ASAP anyway and I’m wondering why she doesn’t understand the natural immunity her kid now has?

I define myself as a leftist. I look for political action to support workers, increase citizens access to power and agency (democracy?), consumer protections, just and humane treatment of citizens (including minimizing war and human rights violations), ensuring free press and free speech. That is just a spur of the moment definition of what it means to ME to be a leftist.
Based on that definition the Democratic Party has completely abandoned me. This truckers movement is very revealing. As a Minneapolis resident the Truckers Strike of 1934 is a significant part of our local lore and legend. (At least for us Leftists). To see current Dems mocking and ridiculing the current truckers movement, to see them supporting censorship, to see them pushing very poorly tested vaccines, supporting imprisonment of Assange, and now the saber rattling to start WW3 has left me feeling that there is not a single thing good left within that party. (Add CA and NY blocking single payer to that list).
Where are my people? Oddly, while I can not have conversations with dyed in the wool Dems, I can have good and meaningful conversations with Reps. Of course we have lots of philosophical differences, but they seem more concerned about the long term well being of this country than Dems. Not enough to ever get me to vote for a Rep. But at least I can converse with Rep citizens.
Are Republicans becoming the new left in this nation? Standing against censorship? Check. Supporting Trumps aid plan for workers and small businesses? Check. Being very slightly less war like? Check. Supporting citizen movements to increase access to power and agency? Check.

I’d say it’s more like the true left is unrepresented by any political party. I think most people here represent the true left that is all that’s left of the DP. It’s true that they have abandoned us because they have abandoned the ideals that they once stood for. They hammered the last nail in the coffin during Clinton’s tenure when they sold out to the Kochs, big business and Wall Street. It’s when they abandoned unions and the working class.
I’m with wouldsman. I still uphold the values that democrats once believed in and I classify myself as a humanist. A long time ago, many drugs and things like eye drops, nasal sprays, etc, used thimerosal, a preservative - thimerosal contained a small amount of elemental mercury, which is a powerfully pro-oxidant substance. Because of something that was only recently discovered, it increased the rate of certain kinds of birth defects.. That effect was real and it showed up on statistics. So people imprinted on their suspicion that vaccines were unsafe, but it wasnt the vaccines per se that were dangerous, it was the pro oxidant preservative. Then they eventually claimed it was no longer there. And I have no reason to doubt that. So if you are obsessed with saying I am wrong, you can chew on this. Both parties in the argument had something with some validity to say. However, at the end of the day, you cant explain this situation without telling people about glutathione and the danger of multiple ADDITIVE pro oxidant toxicants (the thing they dont want people knowing and thinking about) (this is the thing they dont want to explain) So if anybody is on a train of thought where they fear they may start talking about how toxicants should be regulated additively, they get attacked. That's how this system works these days. Because its getting worse fast because of things like coal burning that they have wedded our country to., Natural gas is just getting too expensive for this country since we're open to exporting it now., That will mean its going to rise in price until we find something better and cheaper.. So much more expensive that many wont be able to afford it.
So, how did we get on this subject? A few years ago, a light went on when this issue caused by all pro oxidant substances depleting glutathione, came to light. It was discovered that pro oxidant chemicals all added up - they used the same pathways of toxicity. It was found that NAC which makes glutathione is protective.. NAC is used to make glutathione a thiol (sulfur containing organic molecule) The body's most important detoxifier.. So ialthough some like the FDA (this is very scary) might now, under the current regime tell you NAC "is a drug" its emphatiucally not a drug, its a FOOD a precursor food. Nebulized, its been commercialized and sold as a drug, but that shouldn't be possible. Its a evil thing. Because its a very common molecule.
Imagine if "dihiydrogen monoxide" (water) was patented as this drug that revived people who were dehydrated, and they were addicted to it in order to stay alive. Companies that mined it would become entitled to charge huge amounts for it because you needed it to stay alive. Well get ready for that because the legal framework allowing, no perhaps even requiring it is being pout in place, with GATS.

So to make glutathione, the body needs cysteine and two other amino acids. Glutamine and glycine, Cysteine being the "rate limiting" one that's the most important one,.

Abstract
Identification of common mechanistic principles that shed light on the action of the many chemically diverse toxicants to which we are exposed is of central importance in understanding how toxicants disrupt normal cellular function and in developing more effective means of protecting against such effects. Of particular importance is identifying mechanisms operative at environmentally relevant toxicant exposure levels. Chemically diverse toxicants exhibit striking convergence, at environmentally relevant exposure levels, on pathway-specific disruption of receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) signaling required for cell division in central nervous system (CNS) progenitor cells. Relatively small toxicant-induced increases in oxidative status are associated with Fyn kinase activation, leading to secondary activation of the c-Cbl ubiquitin ligase. Fyn/c-Cbl pathway activation by these pro-oxidative changes causes specific reductions, in vitro and in vivo, in levels of the c-Cbl target platelet-derived growth factor receptor-alpha and other c-Cbl targets, but not of the TrkC RTK (which is not a c-Cbl target). Sequential Fyn and c-Cbl activation, with consequent pathway-specific suppression of RTK signaling, is induced by levels of methylmercury and lead that affect large segments of the population, as well as by paraquat, an organic herbicide. Our results identify a novel regulatory pathway of oxidant-mediated Fyn/c-Cbl activation as a shared mechanism of action of chemically diverse toxicants at environmentally relevant levels, and as a means by which increased oxidative status may disrupt mitogenic signaling. These results provide one of a small number of general mechanistic principles in toxicology, and the only such principle integrating toxicology, precursor cell biology, redox biology, and signaling pathway analysis in a predictive framework of broad potential relevance to the understanding of pro-oxidant-mediated disruption of normal development.

So why did the note to vulnerable pregnant women vanish as rapidly as it appeared?
My theory for the reason was the following. Take note because it and its implications are important.
As the PLOS Biology article indicates, there is a simple intervention which prevents the birth defects caused by pro oxidant chemicals in the environment. N-acetyl cysteine.
If you are interested in this you can search on those two genes mentioned, in the PubMed databse or elsewhere. You'll find that they also are important in carcinogenesis.
the chemical industry REALLY wants to hide that story because they should be polluting much less. And it really needs to happen. Not get lobbied to death. Because certain kinds of pollutants damage adds up in the body, and causes not only birth defects in the unborn. As we age and our bodies have less of a buffer of glutathione to meet certain challenges from polutants, we need more and more glutathione. Which our body makes from cysteine. Which older people make less of and also our aging flesh uses our cysteine up faster, the more "aged" it is. Because of the Schgiff reaction. Literally the cooking of our own meat. So the cysteine we eat gets used up faster and we need mre the older we get. That also influences how sick a given person gets when they get COVID. Its one of the main things, it turns out. They are almost to the point of saying, as the evidence builds up, that the more glutathione there is in yor body the less severe COVID is, and we know how agressively they are avoiding saying anything like that about anything thats not patented and the subject of a monopoly.
We aren't saying that severe COVIDs worst effects "are preventable" with n-acetyl cysteine. Because it costs almost nothing? No, I didnt say THAT! But I do often tell my friends they should be taing it. And the list of reasons is long. For example, most pollutants that cause adverse effects have those effects reduced to some extent by your body having enough glutathione. Which as you might guess, varies depending on how much of it you nrmally consume (for example, in milk) How cooked your meat is. (Yup) Are you a diabetic? How high is your blood sugar? Google the Schiff reaction. Google "advanced glycation end products"
Cysteine is a food, an amino acid. The highest natural source of it is whey protein.
This is really an important scary problem, because a woman of child bearing age who intends to have children should be taking extra cysteine. They might do this in the form of NAC. In certain highly polluted areas like the Northeast US, where lots of coal is burnt to generate electricity there is a huge amount of mercury in the air, depending on what direction the wind is blowing. its quite simply not safe. Because of all this coal that is being burnt lots of mercury is going into the air, A huge coal powered power plant in Pennsylvania is the source of much of it. If the wind is blowing that plume of pollution towards you the amount of mercury in your air goes up a lot. We have to stop burning this coal. There is also a big problem with wood because elemental mercury is released when wood burns. Also the ash from wood burning is highly inflammatory to the lungs. It causes lung disease, and the inflammation that results lowers your glutathione levels which adversely effects healthy aging.
But the real newsworthy item is not just that Pro-oxidant substances cause birth defects. Its that Americans are being subjected to this situation where to be safe in their communities they must take a supplement to avoid this life changing problem in their unborn children This also has implications for a host of industries many have been polluting for a long time and basically they refuse to stop.
IT means that all pro oxidant substances should be considered as additive when developing action levels for chemical regulation. It requires a new kind of regulation. Otherwise, we're going to see more and more of the kind of birth defect that is modulated by these two genes. Fyn and cCbl.
Unles all wonen of childbearing age take something like a special prenatal vitamin that contains enough NAC to prevent it in all of them. We should all take it actually as more glutathione would assist our body by assisting in chemoprevetion of cancer. It might also help prevent more severe COVID in older people. But they seem to not want to face the fact that an amino acid is so important. But it is. The thing most older people could do is consume more dairy. Milk, yogurt, and cottage cheese/sour cream/cream cheese are all high sources of the amino acid cysteine.
NAC is good to have around. If is also radioprotective, if your local nuclear power plant suffers a loss of the ultimate heatsink.

One interesting thing on that- an MD friend sent a link to a Meta analysis done by the Cochrane group regarding Ivermectin. They only looked at 13 studies in their meta. I did some digging about how they chose which studies to look at or not look at. It turned out that one of their requirements is that the study be written in English. The Cochrane group is a British org. They are considered highly influencial with those who have respect for "The Establishment". They tend to be very pro big Pharma. Their choice of excluding studies not in English, and the wests poo poohing of the science presented by "the east" and the global south reeks of white supremacy, empire supremacy, or something like that.

I just read that Obama might be leaving Spotify too. It’s has nothing to do with Rogan really. They haven’t posted any podcasts in months but they will probably try to make it about him anyway. They apparently want to bring in young people to do shows but Spotify wasn’t too keen on that. I think the owners are in Sweden. But of course if Obama ties it in with Rogan and it starts losing too much money they might rethink Rogan. One inch will turn into a mile.

The UK has Convoys setting out from Cardiff in Wales, Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland and from all corners of England to convene in London on Sunday.
If Canada Trucker Convoy in Ottawa fails, none of this may matter. If it continues to grow, as has been promised for this weekend, then many good things remain imaginable. Fingers crossed.

Just a short update
on our recovery from the Omicron variant. A month in, both my wife and I still get bouts of acute skeletal pain about every other week- significantly more than we had before getting the crud, anyway. We are both testing negative, but both of us have had episodes of major lower back pain, in addition to my completely normal and chronic knee pain as my penance for playing football back in the 70s. It is definitely skeletal and not muscular, for me anyway.
When I get what I think to be a Covid-related knee pain spike, I can deal with it with an extra load of aspirin and ibuprofen, plus maybe 20mg of CBD. Or 30. Or 40. And maybe some Adult Beverage. Sometimes I forget. But if this keeps happening through the spring, it'll finally push me over the edge to deal with a pair of total knee replacements. I've known that I needed them for decades, but I was kinda hoping to keel over before having to go through recovery from yet another knee surgery....
We also seem to have some digestive sequelae around, primarily in that we have both had the most appalling bouts of methane production of our lives. My Gawd, we can both blow each other right out of bed and splat against the wall if we're not careful. That seems to go in about a 2-week cycle as well.
On the other hand, it keeps people from standing near us in lines, so perhaps it isn't all bad. On edit- and I have another batch of dill pickle bratwurst soup working on the stove.
So life continues to be, shall we say, interesting at times.
