Spotify chooses Joe Rogan over Neil Young
---
While Young's music is incredibly popular, Spotify has a $100 million contract with Rogan,
---
We want all the world's music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators. We have detailed content policies in place and we've removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to COVID since the start of the pandemic. We regret Neil's decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon.

Heh…
There were problems with running a campaign of Joy while committing a genocide? Who could have guessed?
Harris is unburdened of speaking going forward.
The capitalists did not choose Rogan over Young.
Young removed himself. He has made a fortune in a capitalist society. He is always welcomed back to Spotify.

Indeed he is, butm regardless of what they
claimed their policies are, I suspect that $100 million contract was the thumb on the scale of their balancing act.

And not their ANTI-censorship POLICY?
You and gjohns and millions more think $ was the dicing factor. I think it was the freedom to express ideas and beliefs. I do not think Rogan spread disinformation. My opinion differs from Young's. He is more likely to have been considering $ than me.

Yeah, I do have some prejudices toward the corporate
ilk, and don't think that the truth or falsity of Rogan's content was relevant to the decision makers. They even point out that they've silenced others, so how strong can their "anti-censorship" cred be?

Well, if their only reason for backing Rogan was money,
If Young's reason for requiring censorship of ideas with which he disagrees, how would Spotify ever have control? Anybody, all day, every day, could make a similar demand about any topic. That would be chaotic. They would be out of business in no time. I see their choice to keep up the Rogan interview as their only sensible option.

You make a great point about maintaining control,
of things which, given the nature of both corporations & media sites was probably decisive.

LOL!
I have control of my business. I am in business to make $. (I have to eat, pay the electric bill, etc...)If the general public perceived that I did not control it, I would be out of business in a flash, and I am not operating from a forum that can be widely seen by a giant population.
Spotify, as a business, for the purpose of making a profit, can't let the general public get the word that any individual with a bottom lip stuck out can influence their business practices.
Nevertheless, if their only concern was to choose Rogan's value to them against Young's value to them, they did the intelligent thing.
Or, they let Young dictate their practices on the grounds of truth and misinformation, in his opinion, because they believe the singer's science interpretation over Rogan's guests' science interpretation, the head scratcher is how Young came to be the expert over the actual scientist considered the expert in his field.
Where I would hate for Spotify to go is to absolutely, without doubt, where the path leads to money, with no other consideration.

As to:
Per my recollection of contracts, money is generally considered to be consideration, ain't it? (grinning, ducking and running)

Except my office...
FWIW: I testified last week against an attorney at a State Bar Grievance trial. He could not twist and turn my statements, bless his heart!

Spotify is turning into MTV
I hate it. $100 million to Rogan, pennies to musicians. In any case, Neil Young must have another reason (I'd hope) for this. It's a fairly meaningless gesture.
I have never listened to Spotify
Obviously, they run their business according to their policies, and not Young's demands. He really shocked me that he is so adamant about his opinion being the only one worth repeating. He comes off like a spoiled brat.
Scheherazade mentioned the mere pennies musician revenue. That truly sucks.

Frankly, I've never listened to it.
I have some sort of low-level subscription to Jazz Radio, my own custom Slacker station which turned into liveXlive, Sirius, which came with our pick-up, and a ton of CDs or all genres which reside on my hard drive and my tablet. Plus, there's always the sidebar on You Tube.

Joe Rogan Podcast Should Be Censored?? (FU)
I would suggest that it is the MSM in cohort with Big Tech and Big Pharma that are the purveyors of “misinformation”. How many f*cking times have they been caught doing so during this plandemic?
to choose between a Joe Rogan or a Neil Young ?
WTF are they trying to slice and dice us with now?
Us versus them has long lost its luster.
Now we are going to parse comparability?
Not into it. Harvest makes some sense.

We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.
Thanks Az.

Neil is wrong here
we all are sometimes. Allowing other voices and opinions is never wrong. Are they (you) suggesting we are too stupid to decipher the message for ourselves? This is always the question about censorship.

Uh -
I'm not, Neil is, and I don't think Spotify cares what the answer is

I've been a big fan of Neil for decades...
Oops, make that "Decades".
Yeah. And its not doing my bald spot any good.

My high school gf had a big crush on Neil Young in the 70s, so I saw him live all around the Bay Area with and without CS&N. Before he became the out of touch millionaire that all popular musicians eventually become. PU! When millionaires fight, what are they really fighting about? Leggo my ego.

Neil Young bans his music from streaming due to 'worst' sound quality
Never! LOL! Nothing says "quality" like a fucking youtube channel, eh Neil? Sounds good to me.

Plonk! I confess to not knowing what the hell information Joe Rogan spread about vaccines that hurt Neil's feels so much. Was it really so awful? Did he mention any specifics? I don't know, and I only care a wee bit to post some copy pasta about more boring bloviating millionaires and their bubble headed bullshit disagreements. WAT
