Happy Thanksgiving!

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated after the harvest 400 years ago this autumn, in 1621. The exact date is unknown. The feast was celebrated by the Pilgrims, the breakaway Puritan sect that founded Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts in 1620, and it was joined by the neighboring Native American tribe, the Wampanoags.

For the Wampanoags and many other American Indians, the fourth Thursday in November is considered a day of mourning, not a day of celebration. Because while the Wampanoags did help the Pilgrims survive, their support was followed by years of a slow, unfolding genocide of their people and the taking of their land.

Though the holiday is ironic, enjoy your gathering with family and friends, and don't eat too much!

Seeing these magnificent animals close up made me remember that they once numbered in the millions and roamed the plains and were wiped out for spite and worse.

I could hit every one of them with a baseball that’s how close they are to us. However it’s like playing chicken when I need to use the bathroom here. The one on the right was standing and closer the last time I did. He was munching peacefully and looked up and asked where I thought I was going. I hope they move on soon so I can go outside and cook breakfast and go for a walk. Sam is sitting at the door watching them. Wants to go say hi to them.

Gah I just thought how horrible it’d be if they don’t move in time for dinner tonight. Might have to postpone the cookout. Eee-gads

Happy Turkey Day everyone!!!

Thanksgiving and New Years Day are really the only two holidays I enjoy.
The irony on Tday isn't lost on me, but I just try to see it as an opportunity for gratitude on a personal level.
Cheers!

for which I am thankful to something or another.
I am watching the John Wayne movie, "The Alamo", after visiting it (for the 4th time) and truly enjoying my time in this Gulf Shores, AL, condo, right on the beach.
Hope everyone is taking some time off the pressures of work, and just eats some delicious food, washed down with a favorite drink.
