with this lady. Well it can happen to the dumbest of us..

.

Actually when I was listening as a high school student to classical music, I never thought she was so great.

I rather liked this record, I owned once, but some ... throw the box away. I never forgive that.

and passions. I listen now sometimes to German bands' performances on TV and it sounds as if they want to make music like they hear from the US, but - darn it - it's not the same.

Heh, I am not for nothing addicted to this place here.

Joe be good, yeah.

good records, tapes, discs or other storage devices
are similar to good memories

lost to the vagaries of time ..

have no idea what happened to all those 2 track, 8 track, 45's
albums, cassettes that were once windows into a better place

as much as I don't like fooling with u-tube, it has re-opened
some of those long-lost vistas

hope your country is drying out a bit

wildfires or extreme flooding like we had. By now I think it is the latter.

My brain is blank, like the people who live in person through it. Many elderly they just have a blank stare and wait what is next, sitting on the last chair they could find in the debris. They say destruction resembles wwII-style bombing of cities, if not worse.

Luckily those not directly sitting in the mud, came fast and furious to help. It's one big effort to help, people come from hundred of miles away.

It feels very bad, being in the Northern parts of Gemany and have lovely weather. Life is just not fair.

Long-term trauma to come. So sad.

drawing attention to the extreme conditions that
the global biosphere is reacting to humanity's
over-consumption of resources

we can try to pressure our 'rulers' to reign-in

in one single “Lebenshilfe” care facility in Sinzig — something about that story makes me furious. One night watchperson on duty for three dozen or so residents? First floor completely inundated in a matter of minutes? No warning? No assistance? No way to sound an alarm, with lights and phone service out?

Maybe it’s because of my having blind friends who live independently and who have expressed worry re whether anyone will think of helping them to safety if ever there’s a disaster.

they apparently cut off the old fire siren network (the ones you heard in wwII, when the population was warned that a bombing was coming withing a minute or seconds). I remember I heard as a child and student in Germany, if somewhere was a fire disaster or other catastrophic event as well.

Why for heaven's sake did they do that ? They worked, everybody could hear them. My mother had life-long traumatic reactions to those sirens, when she was reminded how they sounded watching documentaries about wwII. That should tell everyone, who have not heard those sirens, what an impact they have

I heard the story where a woman living in the first floor, rescued tenants living in the basement, when the mud filled the basement within minutes and would otherwise have suffocated the tenants. Literally saved their lives in the very last minute.

It is good to not live alone.

We're having our first session reunion Thursday afternoon. For over 30 years we've gathered on Friday nights to play music. In deference to the pandemic we suspended those gatherings for over a year and a half.

Only one of of the grinners got COVID, and none of the pickers developed any symptoms. Now we're all vaccinated, and so we're finally resuming activities. Only this time given our aging status and the hour plus drive of some participants we're trying afternoons rather than nights. I'll report on the gathering this weekend.

As far as music to share, I've been enjoying these young folks who are capable of playing many genres. They post a live piece every Sunday morning. Here's last weeks.

My plumber buddy comes here today to help with a hot water issue. I'm getting some unintended feed to our floor heat and this is not the time of year where you want that. Hoping it is just a check valve or equally easy fix. We'll just have to deal with the problem as best we can, so I've called in the expert.

Well, have a good one and thanks for the OT!

@Lookout

You must be psyched to get back on jammin' ~ have fun!

The heating issue is most probably a sticky valve, have the same issue
here. The tolerances inside those non-return valves is very tight.
Fortunately, it is an easy fix to disassemble the valve body and blow or
flush them out. Tiny particles in the heat exchange fluid.

Thanks for the tunes!

a Cameroonian at the World Bank way back in the early eighties once said on a mission to Haiti having been asked officially about where this road from the airport goes: "to nowhere". He almost lost his job over this answer and was never sent on a mission again into a country with a black population.

I hope McGovern's proposal will go somewhere, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Probably I haven't understood a thing and should shut up.

I have now read parts of the article and I admit it sounds like something one would wish could be accomplished.

@QMS , the song/singer, (M. Gauthier I mean). I should have included an /s on the above comment with the Wonderland song, I was sort of kind of kidding (the singer was as well, I think ?).
Best to you QMS, thanks for the steady stream of OT's, and helping to keep the lights on so to speak. I'm out of commission for a bit but hope to pitch in in the future.

from a band that I've gigged with many times as a backup, asking if I'd be up for an upcoming gig about a month out (Friday night retirement party, ~75 in attendance, decent coin). Didn't even know that they were back working yet...

I'm actually considering doing it, if I can somehow stay masked up. Perhaps for this gig I should get one of those plague doctor masks, and modify it to make it functional.... Just have to work up my chops again while wearing it. Whaddaya think?
