Haiti is on the verge of a complete meltdown
Watching this video, it reminded me of what I'd read about early 20th Century China, as the last weak dynasty fell and waves of revolution rocked the nation. Followed by unrest and another revolution, and then another revolution, each one bloodier than the last.
Into that chaos and vacuum arose brutal gangs, that sometimes aligned with corrupt politicians. This is what we are seeing in Haiti today.
This article is a good representation of what Haiti is facing.

Attackers raided six police stations over the weekend, killing three police officers and burning their bodies in one attack, local news outlets reported. In another, a police inspector who refused to hand over weapons was shot to death.
He said police had restored control of a highway leading south from the capital that had been blocked by gang warfare around the troubled neighborhood of Martissant since last Wednesday.
The latest flare-up appeared to have killed about 10 people - including civilians - and forced thousands to flee the area as assailants torched homes and businesses, the office of civil protection said in a statement.
Videos on social media last week showed bodies along the empty highway that was manned by gunmen..."The phenomenon of gangsterization is taking on more and more alarming proportions," the office of civil protection said, adding there were conflicts in at least three other neighborhoods of the capital. "The security forces are on their knees."
This alone is a complete disaster. But it gets worse.
Covid-19 had largely ignored Haiti...until now. Haiti also happens to be the only nation in the western hemisphere that doesn't have a vaccine. I don't mean that they haven't rolled out a vaccine. They simply don't have one, period.
Meanwhile the violence has caused a spike in child malnutrition.
At the same time, President Biden, like Trump before him, steadfastly sticks by the extremely corrupt President Jovenel Moïse that is probably behind the violence.
Moïse’s opposition and the Judiciary’s Superior Council says his mandate ended in Feb. 2021, but he says it ends in Feb. 2022, five years after he took office a year late due to a political stalemate after elections in 2015 were shelved due to fraud allegations. While he failed to organize parliamentary and local elections when they were due in 2018 and 2019, Moïse is now eager to do so, along with the constitutional referendum and presidential elections.
However, it’s obvious to all except him and the Biden administration that Haiti can’t hold two elections in 2021. There is no credible voter registration process, there is no security from violence, there is no independent electoral machine to guarantee fair and honest results.
