A necessary

addition to your life:

          In the late 1980s I was introduced to this by one of the best astronomers I had known.

@mimi , my granddaughter's state of mind. I can only hope it has gone as far as mine every time I contemplate this scene.

Those rocks remind me of beaches in Oregon.

@Azazello , in Ecola State Park, north of Cannon Beach, OR.

          This is the first beach I ever saw when, in 1970 a college friend took me on my first trip to the coast. For years I looked for this particular beach, but never saw it again, until . . .

          Nearly fifty years later: After attending a family function in Eastern Oregon my wife, daughter, granddaughter, and I drove to the coast. We visited four beaches that day, and as we drove away from each GD would proclaim, "That is the best beach I have ever seen." After we left Indian Beach we drove to PDX so my daughter and granddaughter could fly back to the midwest. I was happy to have stumbled over my favorite beach of all time.

@PriceRip
We were at Rockaway a couple years ago and it has rocks something like that.
We're going up there again this summer, Manzanita this time.

@Azazello , I have driven on by as I had planned ahead to spend a few nights nearby. I know the area of which you speak: I am always struck by the views from 101 and its pullouts. Awe!, to live the life of a seal or sea lion.

          Now that we are re-established, and if I can begin to trust my fellow Oregonians I hope to continue my quest to establish which is the best beach.

Good

@PriceRip

if it even has one, but there is (anyway was) a pretty amazing beach right on the OR/CA state line (so, between Brookings and Crescent City). Nice one at Yachats also.

More woods and cliff top than beach, but the walk from Cannon Beach to Seaside over Tillamook Head is pretty worthwhile, too...

Most impressive beaches I've visited, though, were Southern Hemisphere: west coasts of Isla Chiloe and Tasmania...

Now, living about 1K from the ocean, hardly ever go.

@Azazello Beach. Another great visit is the jetty at Garibaldi south from Manzanita. There are canneries on the north side where you can get canned seafood. On good days you can watch boats going in and out of the jaws of the jetty. On rough days its a great place to watch the ocean.

Fished out of there in 22 foot boats many years. Some interesting experiences and good fishing.

A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit. Allegedly Greek, but more possibly fairly modern quote.
