But a quick demonstration of why Yang seems attractive to so many weary New York residents.

Consider his Opponents: Scott Stringer is 60 years old and has been a Party faithful since age 12. Including with his growing-up buddy from Queens, Andrew Cuomo, aged 63. Both of these guys were born into politically powerful Democratic Political seats and did little or, more accurately nothing, other than Centrist New York Democratic Establishment Office seeking in their entire lives. Stringer's recent left turn is bogus. Almost as fake as his speaking patterns. oy vey.

2) Eric Adams---- 30 years law enforcement. 20 years NYPD. retired as Captain. Uptight asectic. Frightening.

3) Maya Wileyanother elderly scold. Years on MSDNC shaking her head and kvetching make her a non-starter. Oh yes, Identity politics is not going to be her ticket to ride.

4) and 5) Katherine Garcia and Dianne Morales Both excellent candidates. Garcia is the most skilled qualified candidate and Morales is an actual Progressive. Neither has much chance to win but both are wonderful. This is not the year of the woman in NYC Mayoral politics. No matter how much Media propaganda you are subjected to.

6) and 7) Rich Guy Wannabees. Ray McQuire, Tall Black Citibank exec billionaire is going after Eric Adams Black constituency in the 3rd most voter heavy precinct in NYC. That is the SouthEast corner of Queens where McQuire has split the vote by getting some of the most powerful Machine leaders in Queens to back him. The other half will stick with Adams. Maya Wiley will slice off a sliver. Bad news for all three of them. And Shaun Donovan. Bloomberg and then Obama's right hand guys. Daddy Donovan is funding this effort.

The business communities, Madison Square Garden owner, for one, changed his party affiliation to (D) just to support these guys with a PAC he's formed, and I expect all the so-called important big money entities will be shelling out big bucks to bore NYC TV audiences to death. Because they are uniformly terrifed of the uncontrollable candidate # 8.

The Eighth Candidate and I hope eventual Champion is Andrew Yang. Andrew is going with his gut and his history. He aims to entertain. He comes from a struggling immigrant family and made it pretty big in America. He understands where we are going now and is preparing for our future.

And now, if your eyes are crossing from too much detail, I wish you all a pleasant day.

I don't live in New York but the final result should prove to be interesting.

@humphrey @humphrey @humphrey DNC/Big$$$ against the interests of the people.

Been around long enough to know that the ending is not always what I am hoping for. But....

Eight years ago Bill de Blasio was 4th in the polling. All the business and power interest groups rallied around Chris Quinn. I was laughed at when I told my buddies that de Blasio would win.

The people did get to choose but I think the forces that existed then are smarter now.

Mayor de Blasio has been punished mercilessly ever since. AND he has lived up to his promises.

The lowest income residents of NYC have been extremely well served. M4A is real in NYC. Not "go to an ER if you are bleeding," but the real thing. So are fair union contracts, minimum wage, paid sick leave, 1/2 fare transit cards for low incomes folks. On and on and on.

I am struggling to maintain optimism that we can keep The City out of the Real Estate and insurance and Bloomberg type interests that have been driven mad by de Blasio. But it is a not easy.

Diaries like yours is why I keep coming back to this site.

A relative of mine lives in Astoria, in the district of Caroline Mahoney, or is it Malloney. My relative tells me that the campaign of Mohoney or Malloney's 2020 opponent was essentially I moved here from India and now I am a lawyer, which my relative did not find inspiring.

What I have noticed in Congressional races across the country is that Justice Democrat sponsored candidates are able to win when they can believably say something like: I come from a working class background, I know what you are going through because I have been where you are now and here is what we need to do about it. That is not a sufficient message all by itself, but it seems to be a necessary one. I find Yang smart, likeable and honest so far as I know, but if I lived in NYC, I would want to hear more than "struggling immigrant family". Sure UBI is a good idea, but what good would it do me if the landlord can just raise the rent to get "his/her share"?

@Nastarana @Nastarana It's Carolyn Maloney and her crass opponent had no chance. Either his first attempt nor on his second. Maloney has a long record of delivering for New York residents even though she is a privileged person. The entire City is grateful to her for her leadership for injured and sick workers from the attack on 9/11.

Yang's ideas include Banking for the Poor. Guaranteed income for the least well-favored amongst us and a willingness to take on bullies like our gross Governor. His avowed purpose is to eventually make NY the anti-poverty state. That is why the invective is so strong against him.

Yang's cheer leading optimism and enthusiasm stands in stark contrast to the dour grim faces of his tired old and cynical opponents. Exceptions are Dianne Morales and Kathrine Garcia who I hope to hear more from.

Politico revealed Scott Stringer remarks to his wealthy real Estate donors. "Don't worry. This left turn is for the Primary ONLY." I'm going to locate and print his remarks for those who are interested. Scott is a pampered motherfucker bad guy if there ever was one.

Why is Eric Adams being an "uptight ascetic" frightening? What that description says to me is a. maybe he can't be bought, and b. maybe he can't be blackmailed. He might even, heretical thought, hire capable and qualified people to administer the city.

Please define 'kvetching'. Not meaning to be offensive, but I don't consider it a duty to learn Yiddish. Why would an "elderly scold" want to be mayor, a position which requires actual work, something of which most scolds, in my experience, are incapable? I would be wondering who is it who intends to rule from behind her? Mayor of a major city is hardly a job for an elderly person past her prime.

My relative, a DSA member, tells me there are several socialist candidates running for City Council. Have you any ideas how good their chances might be?

@Nastarana is a cop. A Captain. Punishing is his mode. Deprivation gets him high. Yes, I am harsh. Doesn't mean I've misunderstood him, does it? His strict diet keeps him out of NY restaurants. Yang has published reviews and photos from all his favorite spots. They are grateful, naturally, and Yang signs are in many restaurant windows and on a Halal food cart. Again, if I can find this and figure out how to post it, you'll get to see it.

Kvetching is complaining. Constantly. Most yiddish translates directly but with added emotional flavor. You are absolutely not required to learn it. I'll provide translation.
I am generally hopeful about DSA candidates but have not as yet learned who they are. So, no comment.

I of course accept that you know these people better than I do. If I believed mass media, I would take it for granted that de Blasio was an incompetent wokester who hadn't benefitted NYC in any way, so I am glad to read an alternate account from an actual New Yorker.

As for Adams, thanks for the clarification. A believer in punishment to me is someone to fear, but not at all the same thing as an ascetic. I can't really care where a guy eats. If Yang enjoys dining out, well, he can afford it, more power to him. I haven't heard that his wealth was dishonestly gained. Some of us have to limit inessential expenses. If I were an NYC resident, I would likely vote for one of the progressive two you mentioned just to help push up the total for that person so she might look viable for another run or some other office. On the evidence you provided, thank you for that, Stringer looks like the most likely to do harm in office. If it began to look like he might prevail, I likely would vote for someone popular like Yang just to keep Darth Vader out of office. Needless to say, I don't trust anyone who has commentated for MSNBC, and I would not at all want to see such a person in leadership.

The Gov. is clearly past his prime and needs to be given an honorable retirement, ambassador to some pleasant capital of midlevel importance, Vienna, perhaps. He was entertaining in his day, always fun to watch even if one didn't like his crony politics, but, at a time when fighting back was something us nice nice Dems don't do, it did seem like a corrupt knife fighter was the best the non RW was going to get.

Do not ask me what the reporters are arguing about in this Twitter thread.

Stringer's words speak for themselves.
