Open Thread - 04-23-2015

Good Morning, Everyone! What's on your minds today? This is an Open Thread and every thing you want to rant about is a okay. That includes hugs, kisses and an occasional (silent) middle finger towards your favorite political jerk.

I am your silly Thursday host. As I said yesterday, I can't come up with something that is to be taken seriously. So, bare with me, I have nothing new and am outta here to hit the road again in a minute.

Just one giggling question for today:

Who should I kiss first, Willie, Sonny, Terry or Bernie? Tell me!

(shhh, I kiss Bernie, I think he is so cute. (Warning, I may develop in those photo dropping Berniebots - a la gos mode). )

On the road again with Willie:

And with Sonny and Terry we have keep walking on:

And then keep trucking with Bernie:

Just imagine the four would jam the country together.
Oh, Lord, Hallelujah, do you hear the music?

See the recap of Bernie's Western Swing. 99ers, We need to put boots on the grounds.

Bernie in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Austin and Chicago

You remember Bernie's filibuster speech on the Senate Floor?

or his 12-step speech:

Speaks at The National Press Club (includes lot of his biographical details of his political career)

On the phone with Tom Hartmann:

Bernie slows down Fast Track:

Bernie Sanders to speak at S.C. Democratic convention.
Oh, wait, I have a question. Is he a warrior against all wars, especially these?

ME_zpsf24akfxp.jpg

I think it's about time that the esteemed gentlemen and gentleladies in Congress deliver the day, we are all longing for.

When I was very young, I loved this lady's songs.

This song is for all of us against any form of empire oppressing any of us.
It's not a Sunday, but one can have a little faith on any day, Amen.

Last question: Should Bernie Sanders run as an independent, with a third party or with the Democratic Party? All those movements? Will they help him?

I am having trouble viewing the videos, except for Bernie's filibuster speech. Is it me or is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

they're all there. Bernie's filibuster wasn't displaying for me because it's from c-span and I had to allow c-span in my NoScript settings, Good job mimi!

there was nothing wrong with it, you did good, kiddo. It was a setting in my browser that was stopping me from seeing the c-span video, that's all.

I am almost 67, how old are you? When do we grow out of the kiddo age? Never? Just kidding. Have to catch up with my reading. Thanks anyway, kiddo.

that we added a front page yesterday. Use the "Diaries" link in the header or sidebar to get to the regular diaries page and bookmark it if that's your go-to page. Use the "Home" links or click the site logo or sitename to go to the front page. You'll need to redo your old bookmarks because the regular diary page URL is different than it was before.

and all the thumbs up I have, because I am so glad that the Open Thread doesn't appear anymore as the first front page. I can't stand my lax chatting around to be seen first thing in the morning. And I think it's great to see the "real meaty diaries" and "valued writers" on the Front Page.

You know, if it were for me, an Open Thread wouldn't need a "story". I would just need an Open Thread each day to drop in anything that comes to my mind and like to share. Two to three sentences of "High, Good Morning, this is our daily Open Thread for chatting etc" is enough. I think it's great to put the chatting conversations on the side lines and the real stuff on the front page.

I-m so happy

this is exactly right and is perfectly fine, the open thread is just a segue into the discussion threads.

you said it, now you have to live with the consequences... Smile
So glad you are that uncomplicated to live with in the digital world.

As an aid to newbies and the simple-minded, maybe you could change the hotlinks on the left so that there is a link to the home page (all of the really great diaries) and a link to the discussion/chat page. Where the logo links is up to you. I think these two links need to be visiable without exlanation and labeled by whatever you are calling them. Just my thoughts.

there are "Home" and "Diaries" links which are exactly the links your talking about only named differently. The left sidebar already has a "Diaries" link, I just need to add a "Home" link.

arrive where I wanted to go.

What do you think about three different page links?

Front Page - Featured Diaires
Diaries
Open Threads

So we don't have to scroll through so many diaires to find the OT of previous days. Often people go back to answer to a comment in OT from days before and I like that, because it's where discussions start.

I am out for today. Thanks for your help and comments.

you may not be the only one who has a short and sweet open thread. Wink I suspect mine will be that way too. It is a relief not to see my own Open Thread on the front page too. It takes a lot of pressure off for me to write something meaty every week, although I do have one planned for next week.

all we need is a place to get together and share what's on our mind. And with the meaty stuff ... when we have it, we cook it and eat it together ... if we don't... you get just a piece of bread and we share that one too, all being grateful that we got "our daily bread".

Just make life easy, there are enough real pressures to live with.

The venerable "Atrios" is Duncan Black — a Philadelphia native, one of the very first "progressive" political bloggers (at Eschaton), and still going strong.

Click on the Eschaton link and you'll see how the frequent open threads at Eschaton — posted morning, noon, and night — are introduced with a single, often silly, line, consisting of no more than a few words.

I like her too and really don't care right now, who is running. She said she wouldn't run and I have no reason to not believe her. I am more interested to understand the idiotic question I have of why it matters so much as what Bernie would run, third party candidate, independent (could he be a write in candidate?) or Democrat. You know your system gets so much on my nerves that I don't even try anymore to understand it. I have already too many bumps on my forehead. Dash 1

Now that I have overcome my oun technical hiccup, I can see all the videos. I love how you integrated the music videos with Bernie's speeches. I find his passion contagious. There are very few politicians that even show the type of passion that Bernie does. Good

he seemed to have had. So, the fear to be betrayed again or lied to is a little less than with other candidates. But then I trust Warren as well.

I put up a short, silly diary with an old Stan Freberg album on the topic, having finally given in to the triumph of religion over reason.

Fucking lies.

"As a United States Senator, I will work to ensure Israel’s security and success. I believe Israel must maintain a qualitative military edge and defensible borders. The United States must continue to ensure that Israel can defend itself from terrorist organizations and hostile states, including Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and others. I also believe firmly that a two-state solution is in the interest of Israel and the United States. Lasting peace, however, requires negotiations between the parties themselves, and although the United States can and should aid in this process, we cannot dictate the terms. Unilateral actions, such as the Palestinians’ membership efforts before the United Nations, are unhelpful, and I would support vetoing a membership application.

Iran

Iran is a significant threat to the United States and our allies. Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, it is an active state sponsor of terrorism, and its leaders have consistently challenged Israel’s right to exist. Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons is unacceptable because a nuclear Iran would be a threat to the United States, our allies, the region, and the world. The United States must take the necessary steps to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. I support strong sanctions against Iran and believe that the United States must also continue to take a leadership role in pushing other countries to implement strong sanctions as well. Iran must not have an escape hatch."

Welcome to the club. So, who do you suggest we gather to support in the end? What I see in the development is that Israel and the rest of the Western world nations, who allied behind unconditional support for Israel, independent of who governs there and what they decide to do with the Palestinians, will bring their relationship to a collapse all by themselves. No need to help them in that from my pov.

I've made my views clear, I think we need to change the entire system. We can't keep playing this stupid game
every two/four years between two corrupted political parties. So to me it doesn't matter who is President, in fact, I
agree with Pluto relative to letting the Republicans have it so at least the supposed left can get riled up and join the real
left for awhile.

I like to know where that system is located. Is that the constitution? Is that in the electoral college and campaign finance? I don't like Mickey Mouse. Has too big ears for my taste, even bigger than NSA. Ears so big that the Germans BND had cowardly allowed the NSA to spy almost like a pig in the candy store. (revealed today and I would imagine with some consequences and a new scandal). No offense to you or Mickey Mouse though. I am just helplessly kidding you both.

Big Al, tell me what exactly you mean by "the system".

That "in the tank for Israel" thingy may well be why Warren's and Sanders' careers are allowed to flourish.

It's okay to be a gadfly, as long as you don't get out of line on the one topic where the gleichschaltung of Congress is complete.

Dennis Kucinich, for instance, wasn't in the tank for Israel and ultimately the party powers-that-be saw to it that he was disposed of, tout suite.
