Friday Open Thread ~ "Movie Music" edition ~ The Man With No Name

The Man with No Name (Italian: Uomo senza nome) is
the antihero character portrayed by Clint Eastwood in
Sergio Leone's "Dollars Trilogy" of Spaghetti Western
films: A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More
(1965), and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). He is
recognizable by his poncho, brown hat, tan cowboy boots,
fondness for cigarillos, and the fact that he rarely talks.

While the character is universally known as "the Man with
No Name", he was called "Joe" by another character, and
listed in the credits as such, in the first film, and given
nicknames by other characters in the other two such as
"Blondie."Despite this, he never refers to himself with
any moniker, and, when asked for a name in the third
film, is reluctant to answer as the question is dismissed.

When Clint Eastwood was honored with the American
Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996, Jim
Carrey gave the introductory speech and said: "'The Man
with No Name' had no name, so we could fill in our
own."In 2008, Empire chose the Man with No Name as
the 43rd greatest movie character of all time.

Have a good one!

Edit to add:

As I was pulling my road back up the ridge, I realized the movie sound track most like my music would be "O Brother, Where Art Thou". Several friends play on its many cuts.

'Worse than I ever imagined': Utahn shares experience helping repair plumbing after Texas storm

"The destruction was incredible. Worse than I ever imagined," he said. "The plumbing that they use, their water lines just shattered. So, we were basically re-plumbing the whole house for them and this is obviously people that couldn't afford it."

Hatch and his crew worked on dozens of homes for free.

They crawled underneath them in some of the most challenging conditions even the most experienced plumbers have ever faced.

"It rained the whole time we were there," said Hatch. "They were laying in raw sewage, feces from animals, things like that. And they never complained once."

Some of his workers got sick.

A couple of their work trucks broke down.

And it often seemed like the work would never end.

"We would go back to the room after a 12-hour day and your boots are soaked. No way to dry them. Things like that," said Hatch.

Through it all, though, the job was about as rewarding as any he has ever been on.

Most of the people Imperial Plumbing helped didn't think they would get help from anyone.

"I needed my way to do things to help the human race and to make things better in America and to show that everybody still cares," said Hatch. "My workers are young men in their 20's and it was great for them to see this."

See article for pics of the working conditions. Kudos for this company and to all the people that donated to get help to Texans. Shattered pipes is what he called the disaster. Not broken, shattered. No money to help and this Utahn shows up and fix it for them. My stars that is sweet.

I just read that the CDC says that school desks can now be only 3feet apart instead of 6. Why? I dunno, but maybe the drops that get carried long ways away from people aren't able to do that any longer. Who the hell knows why they keep changing rules made to keep people alive?
Or is something else going on?

Big Pharma Quietly Planning Price Hike for Covid Vaccines in 'Near Future'

"As this shifts from pandemic to endemic, we think there's an opportunity here for us," said Pfizer's Chief Financial Officer Frank D'Amelio.

Oh I bet you do. From going from a little bit was good when we found it out by accident, to only taking one shot till everyone is shotted to now we will need 3 shots for full effect and a yearly booster and on top of that we are raising the damn price for a drug that was given billions or possibly trillions over the years from the government. China does not charge its people for vaccines because the industry is run by the government. Ours might have once right before they decided to squeeze the guts out of the inhabitants of the US of A a 3rd world country in many spots.

I am ticked. The rules keep changing from what should be safe to what looks less safe. Wear a mask, Get a shot. Wear 2 masks and now get 3 shots. And still wear your masks for another 2 years. Meanwhile, mutations are spreading as fast as the vaccinations it seeems. Okay.. a fib, but what the effing hellish F is going on?

Well it is sunny and nary a cloud in the sky. Sam got up early and chased them all away for me so we are out for a walk. No wind...yay my poor ears. I might let her go ditch running in the fowl smelly water. I forgot to bathe her. Oh well. She's a lab. It's summer and there will be water everywhere.

I am dealing with plants in Texas never meant for 7 days of freezing temperatures. Today, I cleared out a 4 ft. by 30 ft. bed. Every gorgeous flowering bush was dead. I did a do over, and intend to re-plant what those birds and bees love, and I love, too.

Outlaw Josey Wales is my official pick for Best American Movie *ever*.

Deserves an eloquent and fulsome review that I'm definitely incapable of delivering at the moment - but certainly recommend it to any who haven't seen it.

Am determined to eventually get around to acquiring and reading the book that it's based on, "Gone to Texas" by Forrest Carter (also author of "The Education of Little Tree")

Right up with that - "Ride With the Devil" - main characters are (as is Josey Wales) Missouri Bushwhacker Southern guerrillas. Stars Toby McGuire (just before he got famous) Skeet Ulrich, Jewel, Jeffrey Wright, Jonathon Rhys Meyers... Directed by An Lee, one of those situations of foreigners 'getting' something American that an American might not have (think Dire Straits).

Wasn't heavily promoted when released, partly due to Jeffrey Wright's character as a black man fighting on the Southern side being seen as very un-PC.

One more Eastwood plug: do not, under any circumstances, miss "The Mule" - really glad Clint stuck around to do that one.

@Blue Republic

in Newport for a photo shoot
for Town and Country magazine a few years back.
Some young doll was his prop, along with
expensive watches, jewelry and cigars.
Kept the handlers calm with cheap wine.
Nice enough fellow, but clueless about
line handling. His body guard tipped me a
C note for protecting the expensive materials.

What a trip that was.
