NYC is Upside Down Land. All Theater? IDK
It's so confusing. Get this:
NYC has announced that the outdoor dining program will be in place year round. Yes. January, February, and March when the temperature hovers around 30 degrees. Or 20 degrees Fahrenheit. WTF?
You see, the outside pavilions (some located out in the street replacing parking places for cars) will be allowed to install outdoor heaters. Which works great in South Beach, Florida on a chilly December evening but in NYC? Wait. It gets better.
So, these outdoor constructions which already sport roofs and lights and heaters now can be enclosed to create tents.
Here's where I lose the thread----How is an enclosed space in the street less conducive to Virus transmission than an indoor space? Please address this and teach me something new, if you can.
In other confusing news, the NY Times has a long article by a high school history teacher who has been assigned to a Pre-K---4 year olds!--- classroom. That's because the cockamamie contraption designed to open schools in NYC cannot find adequate personnel.
I cannot work out if all this is being brave against a Virus that is bigger and badder than we want to admit, or, possibly, if it is the Theater of Carrying On No Matter What to bolster the illusion that businesses can continue to operate and our City will somehow soon revive.

It would make sense to encourage take-out and curb side pickup. I guess experience will have to show them where they went wrong.

I left NYC years ago. If there is some way to create an outdoor dining space, NY'ers would be the ones to do it. Portable green houses? Styrofoam igloos? IDK, but be assured someplace will crack the code and serve small portion weird expensive food combos with pricey alcoholic drinks, and have lines around the block.

I should have mentioned that NYC plans to put a 10% tax on all restaurant food until the pandemic is over.
This will certainly tip the scales for diners who watch their budgets plus are dubious about sitting outside in the street in the winter.
It all seems insane to me.

We're going to bash all teachers now because of a few morons? Most of us are working our asses off trying to make distance learning a valuable experience and/or braving COVID in classrooms with basically no protection for ourselves or our families. So, thanks for that...

Pandemic insanity
The US and a number of other countries have pursued many policies that are weird compromises between trying to limit spread of the virus and keeping businesses open. The net result is a lot of deaths and a massive recession.

Off hand seems very questionable
Restaurants would just be creating an enclosed space with no filtering. Shoving around everyones droplets in a heated room. One of the big cautions during the pandemic is to avoid enclosed spaces with a lot of people.
I am afraid that the dining out experience for most Americans will be the local drive-thru.

that still have drive-in theaters. Most, if not all, CA were razed long ago because the land was too valuable.
There's a drive-in down the road from me
It's said to be the only remaining twin screen drive-in in the state. It's open seasonally, April-October (we still have some winter here). Bet they're doing a land-office business!

Enclosed spaces outdoors are enclosed spaces nonetheless. All indoors spaces are enclosed formerly outdoor spaces.
