An Evacuation Can’t Be All Bad When You Have Goats
Angeles Crest Creamery is a goat ranch in the San Gabriel Mountains, developing a low-input and climate-change-resilient model for meat & dairy in Southern California, and providing educational opportunities for Angelinos interested in learning more about how food can be produced regeneratively in our local mountains. Our work is funded by our agritourism business. ~ Angeles Crest Creamery

Think of this post as a human interest story about a plucky little goat ranch caught in the crosshairs of the #BobcatFire. Located in the Antelope Valley where the worst of the Bobcat fire is burning, the Angeles Crest Creamery posted a series of tweets over a two day period that were so heartfelt and poignant, I just had to share their evacuation story. They do such wonderful work, this story really tugged at my heart stings. Will keep a watch on their situation as it unfolds, but in the meantime, if you feel like giving them a little love and support during this difficult time, please visit them on Twitter, or leave a comment on their website. I'm sure they would appreciate it!

Power has been lost or cut at the ranch, so we lost the cameras. And we are now being evacuated from our evacuation site. We will start preparing but hopefully it won’t really be necessary. There are no fires nearby, but they are likely anticipating winds. #BobcatFire pic.twitter.com/yBgLmJFHlK

Ringer went to a nearby equine sanctuary in Phelan to ride things out. @LACOFD stopped by and said we should be ready for fire in 24-48 hrs. We will milk the goats in the morning and then decide what’s next. We have a nearby place to go, but lots of set up. pic.twitter.com/EskLz6u5CN

This is Big Mamma. I talk to her on the way to the barn. I ask her about what she’s seen, the biggest storm, the longest drought, and how she has survived. I sure hope she will still be there when I go home, and have one more story to tell. #bobcatfire pic.twitter.com/uM7THUEkQL

Hey EL
Glad you enjoyed. I was getting a little weary posting stories of all the terrible stuff. Thought I'd switch gears a little.

by your title, i'd thought it was you who'd had
to evacuate! glad it's not so. we were Forced to Evacuate in 2017 (?), and far earlier than was necessary, as i could see the advance of the fire from the window to the left of where my laptops sits. (we fondly call it 'my desk', but it's one quarter of our ding room table.)
our hogan survived, webber mountain to the east of us...did not. our garden did not, either, save for a few deep-rooted perennials.
