Rain

I can hear you
making small holes
in the silence
rain

If I were deaf
the pores of my skin
would open to you
and shut

And I
should know you
by the lick of you
if I were blind

the something
special smell of you
when the sun cakes
the ground

the steady
drum-roll sound
you make
when the wind drops

But if I
should not hear
smell or feel or see
you

you would still
define me
disperse me
wash over me
rain

No Ordinary Sun.

Tree let your arms fall:
raise them not sharply in supplication
to the bright enhaloed cloud.
Let your arms lack toughness and
resilience for this is no mere axe
to blunt nor fire to smother.

Your sap shall not rise again
to the moon’s pull.
No more incline a deferential head
to the wind’s talk, or stir
to the tickle of coursing rain.

Your former shagginess shall not be
wreathed with the delightful flight
of birds nor shield
nor cool the ardour of unheeding
lovers from the monstrous sun.

Tree let your naked arms fall
nor extend vain entreaties to the radiant ball.
This is no gallant monsoon’s flash,
no dashing trade wind’s blast.
The fading green of your magic
emanations shall not make pure again
these polluted skies . . . for this
is no ordinary sun.

O tree
in the shadowless mountains
the white plains an
the drab sea floor
your end at last is written.

I spoke to smiley after a productive day at his end today. He’s getting there, but it is a slow and difficult process, especially when constricted by health and finances. He's balancing the struggle with his personal strength of spirit, plus the mutual support of friendships cultivated over the years. It’s a long road though, and it’s heavy. It may be a couple months before he is back on Saturdays.

partly because we inhabit different hemispheres and partly because Lucifer is back on netflix. I’ll be around for a couple more hours, and then back late tomorrow evening.

and finally learned the lesson although it took a sledge to konk it. our local media are click whores plain and simple. award winning click whores pwned by the same old same old since time immemorial. ex politicians own the current politicians and none can produce a functional emergency alert system. even after years of multiple disasters. nada. tech grifters galore every contract gets paid that is the juice running this county. unsubscribed.

thanks for the poems and music Janis. Glad to hear smiley is doing well and making progress.

We have 2 tropical systems headed into the gulf this week as CA burns. We got another inch of rain yesterday, and it is a pleasant 65 F this AM. I'm not complaining.

content. Thanks for the update on smiley too. Have a lot of balls in the air right now, so can't take any Saturday's myself, sorry.

Interesting commentary on US covid-19 response, testing regimen and all that. I have a minor procedure coming up, so my provider scheduled me for a covid test.
Drive through, pre-screening, ID verification, etc. and test all combined took about 1/2 hour, most of it sitting in line. Appt was 9:10 am yesterday, done no later than 10:45 am (Friday) My results were posted at 4:02 am today (Saturday) for a total turn-around of 18 hours. This is how it should go, but everybody I've known of has waited 7 to 12 days. I'm clean, btw.

I'm glad the testing was easy, and you're all clear. Saliva testing is starting, which is more comfortable and appears to be at least as valid a test.

but I wanted to stop by.
I got a late start this morning because I slept in. We had a rainy morning! It was an unexpected rain (anyway I didn't expect it) but so nice. Then I spent a chunk of the day harvesting herbs. Among other things I picked quite a bit of basil which I then turned into pesto and stuck in the freezer in individual batches. Even though it's been so dry and hot, the herbs are thriving. (Dealing with them is another matter though.)

Tomorrow I plan to take a break and enjoy your OT of today. I want to read the poetry, listen to the music, watch the film video, look at the photography. Thank you for that, I'm looking forward to exploring it all.
