Nancy offers prayers for starving people updated with full prayer

I bet that she is also thinking about people who are close to being evicted. It’s great that we have such kind and caring representatives that think of us so fondly.

The banks definitely should have to make allowances for people who are unable to make their mortgage payments because of how many times we have bailed them out including the $29 trillion during Obama’s tenure and the over $20 trillion during Trump’s. Because you just know that if too many people default on them congress will make sure they are okay.

I’m very sad this morning. Michelle Obama has admitted she is experiencing low-grade depression. The racism she has had to endure her entire life and now all the recent racial turmoil has her on emotional tenterhooks. Poor dear. She has the weight of the world on her shoulders. It’s not easy managing a $12 million Martha’s Vineyard mansion. Meanwhile, my wife commutes to work an hour each way every day where she teaches children. She is quite literally putting her life on the line just as any soldier does and yet no one even thanks her for her service let alone pays her what she’s truly worth. No $12 million dollar mansion for my wife and, oh, lest I forget, my wife doesn’t have the luxury of experiencing low-grade depression. If she indulges that luxury, she’s living in a cardboard box underneath the freeway until the cops come and rustle her off and excoriate her for her white privilege.
This is what they mean by reparations.

1st comment

She is also very disappointed with the people who voted for Trump or didn’t bother to vote at all. After her husband’s great presidency how could we turn around and reject every damn thing he stood for by voting for his heir Hillary? Do we know what we gave up when we rejected her? Well by golly Michelle I did know what I rejected by not wasting any more time on voting in this corrupt country. I blame your damn husband’s tenure for opening my eyes to it. Both he and Nancy refused to help 10 million people stay in their homes then too. F’ck your depression.

President Obama Signs the Payroll Tax Cut

Just now, President Obama signed the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 -- extending the payroll tax cut and emergency jobless benefits through the end of the year.

Last week, the President called on Americans from across the country to add their voices to the debate and let us know what they would do without an extra $40 in their paychecks. Thousands of individuals did exactly that, and it made all the difference.

At the time, President Obama said, "Until you see me sign this thing, you've got to keep on speaking up...If it's not on the White House website, it hasn't happened."

It happened. Here's that picture the President promised:

Extending the payroll tax cut was a critical step for middle class families, but we still have a lot more work to do. So get ready.

I don’t know the details, but this move by Obama also cut into social security and it might have affected how cost of living was decided that gave less to it. I read something about that in a recent tweet. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

@snoopydawg the "Obama" payroll tax gimmick didn't reduce SSI revenue. It's easiest to see from an example: if SSI revenue at the standard payroll tax rate would have been $1,000 and at the reduced is only $800, then the $200 shortfall was made up by general revenues. It was a bookkeeping entry because there is no surplus, only deficits, in general revenues. So, technically, the SSI shortfall was made up by increasing the national debt.

Remember, the social security trust fund is a not insignificant component of the national debt. For over thirty years more has been collected in social security taxes than has been paid out. All of that excess cash revenue was spent in ways ordinary SSI beneficiaries would have soundly rejected had they known.

@Marie

SSDI is funded the same way as social security, but SSI is funded differently. I was told that just last week. I think he said that it is a federally funded program and so a payroll tax cut won’t affect it.

Do you remember anything about how cost of living rates were changed during Obama’s tenure that reduced the amount people get? It was changed so that certain items weren’t taken into account for how much more people need each year.

@snoopydawg - The payroll tax rate for old age, survivors, and disability insurance has been 6.2% since 1990. Based on actuarial calculations, the allocation to OAS and D has varied somewhat over the years, but generally has been close to 5.3% for OAS and 0.9% for D. As the D trust fund depletion date is 2065 (per 2020 Trustees report), the program is fully funded by payroll taxes. There may be special provisions that are funded by general revenues, but that's beyond my pay grade.

ICYMI this article Azazello posted in today’s OT:

America’s about to make a double digit percentage of its population homeless. Something like 20 to 30%, or more of American small businesses have or will shut down by the end of the pandemic. The jobs won’t all come back and those that do will pay worse and feature worse treatment than the ones before (which were mostly not well paid and featured routine meanness.)

We’re talking about 30 million to 60 million homeless.

America is “undeveloping.” It is moving from being a developed nation to being an undeveloped nation.

This process has been going on for a loooooong time. At least 40 years (1980), arguably since about 68 or so. The frustration as an analyst was that the trend was obvious but it took so long. There is, as Keynes said, a lot of ruin in a nation.

America is third world and experiencing the complete corruption of its ruling and governing classes, with the collapse of its administrative ability. When your post office can’t even deliver mail, you’re a failing state: this is such a basic part of being a government that it’s part of the Constitution, written in the 18th century, but since the post office isn’t a kleptocratic institution, the American political class is destryong it.

I posted a link to the article on how this country handled the tuberculosis outbreak during the Great Depression in my previous essay. Any person who was infected was given a tiny house to stay in to keep it from spreading to families and a nurse would check on them daily. That we did that before as opposed to how we have handled COVID tells me that this was done deliberately just so the PTB could finish asset stripping the country before they abandon it.

Social security is going to be saving lots of money next year after they get done killing off the elderly people who were in nursing homes. And of course the prison’s have not been trying to keep people safe, but instead doing bone headed moves that allowed people to get infected.

During the Great Depression the people finally rose up and demanded that the government do something to help people. FDR put millions back to work fixing the country including building the tiny houses for sick people. This is in the article. It’s worth reading.

Finally that they are insisting kids get back to school is criminal and probably justifies as a crime against humanity. But for gawd’s sake why are so many parents going along with it? Not the ones who have to work because they are living on the edge, but people from families that haven’t been as affected by the shutdown. Maybe it’s the ones who believe that COVID is a conspiracy theory? But for gawd’s sake I would never take the chance of losing my kids to it. Or letting them take the chance of getting lifetime disabilities..

Americans already decided not to fight. I mean, as I’ve said elsewhere, what you should do is have a fucking revolution.
I hope you do, but I doubt you will.
If you don’t, well, sorry, but America’s about to become even more dog-eat-dog.
Given how Americans have acted, and voted, I assume that’s what most of them want. I assume most of my readers don’t, but most can’t get the fuck out, so since they’re there, they’ll have to do what it takes to survive.
Sorry, that’s how it works: if you create a shit society, people do shit things.
If you don’t want that, revolt. Storm Congress while it’s in session, the White House and really occupy Wall Street and the Hamptons.
And defeat the eliminationist right, who, unfortunately, have most of the guns. The cops and DHS will side with them, your only hope of winning is if enough of the military sides with you, which seems… unlikely.
I mean, you fuckers have dug yourself one of the world’s biggest holes and every time someone suggested you stop digging you refused.

So, you’re moving a couple layers down in Hell. Expect to act like it and be treated like it

Faced with two horrible candidates to vote for going back decades we keep voting for the one who most closely meets our values. Look at where that has gotten us. Last election and now this one the best we could come up with was them? And now people are happy to vote for Biden even though he’s the reason we got Trump? Let’s stop digging.

Pelosi blocked Pramila Jayapal's attempt to get a UBI as part of the CARES package. In fact, Pelosi personally negotiated the CARES package with McConnelll, Schumer, and representatives of the Trump administration. She then rammed it through the House on a voice vote with zero discussion. Pelosi is the primary guardian of the oligarchy while simultaneously virtue signaling. Virtue signaling does not put food on the table or pay the rent.

congress is supposed to work. Some article mentioned that by her leaving out most of the house in negotiations and discussions, but then she allows republican house members to weigh in on the discussions she is breaking some type of rule. I thought I had saved that article, but alas I can't find it.

Pelosi personally negotiated the CARES package with McConnell, Schumer, and representatives of the Trump administration. She then rammed it through the House on a voice vote with zero discussion.

Hey how many house members are bitching about this abuse of power? AOC? Omar? Tulsi? Bueller? Nope. I am not seeing any of them saying this is bad and that she should let the whole house be in the discussions. And as far as I know the whole house is rarely in session. I could be wrong. But Pelosi has been getting sh*t for not allowing remote voting from home. Bernie is on one hand telling us that we must pass MFA during the pandemic while on the other telling us that we must vote for Biden who has said that he would veto it if congress ever passed it. Umm Bernie? STFU!!! And if you want things to change then start standing up to Schumer and block every bill that doesn't include what we need. Or stay off Twitter bitching about what you refuse to do.

McConnell is not even in the meetings anymore because many repubs have told him that they will not vote for it.

Schumer said that we must open the schools or we will let the economy get worse. Well many schools have opened and kids are being infected and the schools then have to close down again. The school in Georgia that suspended the student for posting a picture of the kids in the hallway has a huge outbreak now and is back to online schooling.

Huff Poo has a article on how 100k kids have tested positive after returning to school. The rest of the world must be watching in horror as our government does its best to kill as many of us as possible. And I can't imagine what they will think if 50 million homes are foreclosed on. Many families have 2-3 kids, or they live with their extended families because they can't afford rent otherwise. So it is not going to be 50 million people who become homeless. Higher numbers will be over 200 million if not more. And all Pelosi can do is offer prayers. Well if after 20 kids were murdered at school and nothing was done except thoughts and prayers I guess this shouldn't surprise us.

Ian Welsh is spot on in his comment to us. We do have the chance to change things, but most will not take it. The Trump supporters think this is a hoax and democratic voters think that Biden is going to change everything that Trump has done. They are blaming the GOP, Trump and DeVos for schools opening but Schumer and Nancy get a pass because democrats wear white hats. I just can't understand how people can still be so blind after Obama's presidency where wealth inequality got much worse. I just don't get people.

So pretty much the same except that prayer is somehow considered more adult and responsible.

I have seen the quote attributed to Stephen King, but I don't know if he originated the saying.

The gist is that it is said about something being yearned after that it highly unlikely to ever come to pass. So hoping anything good come from Congress fits well.

Landlord removes windows and doors after Maple Ridge, B.C. mom late with rent

It’s been a difficult year for Jamie Hemson, who says she recently left an abusive relationship and hasn’t been able to work during the pandemic.

“We were short rent the month of July and my landlord has decided to come in when I wasn’t home and remove all of the windows, and doors, on the exterior and the interior,” she said.

When Hemson returned home last week to find the doors and windows missing, she initially assumed there had been a break in, but quickly learned her landlord was responsible.

“There was no notice, he didn’t tell me it was coming. He waited until I was gone. So, I feel very violated,” Hemson said.

With the house wide open, the single parent was particularly concerned about safety while she and her five and 13-year-old children were staying there, so she hired someone to board up the house.

“I actually had to borrow that money (to pay for it),” she said.

“I’m a woman. I don’t really feel safe sleeping with my windows and doors open,” Hemson said.

Hemson is now securing the door frame with a piece of plywood. She drills it on from inside the house in the evenings — and must screw the plywood in place from the outside each time she leaves...."

“This case I think is really a lesson to teach me how to find the right way to fix a problem. Zhang acknowledges he does not know the ins and outs of the Residential Tenancy Act very well and may have made a mistake."

Maybe just doing the right thing never occurred to him.

" Under the province’s current COVID-19 State of Emergency, a renter cannot be evicted for unpaid or late rent, and must be allowed to work out a repayment plan for any money owing since March.

Under no circumstances is the landlord allowed to remove the windows and doors.

“There’s nothing in the law that allows that landlord to do so,” said Rocco Triguero’s of the Vancouver Tenants Union. “A landlord cannot destroy a door in order to make a tenant leave a premise. This is absolutely wrong.”

@aliasalias

I thought there were laws preventing landlords from entering people’s property without permission? This is what my rental agreement stated back when.

But in addition to this horror story we have landlords shutting off people’s utilities if they are late on their rents. We need a national moratorium against evictions during this epidemic, but it’d be nice if people didn’t do horrible things to others who are already going through hell in this damn country.
