Is This a Great Decade Starting Now or What?

From Apple News today:

.

Three people have been charged for Twitter’s huge hack, and a Florida teen is in jail

'
Early on July 31st, the FBI, IRS, US Secret Service, and Florida law enforcement placed a 17-year-old in Tampa, Florida, under arrest. He’s accused of being the “mastermind” behind the biggest security and privacy breach in Twitter’s history, one that took over the accounts of President Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Kanye West, Apple, and more to perpetrate a huge bitcoin scam on July 15th.

.

If you read the whole article, it tells the story that I missed when it broke a couple weeks ago. But you get no hint of the hilarious import of this dastardly crime -- a fucking teenager can take over Bill Gates' twitter account.

In my business life, I am required to watch cyber security video cartoons -- 46 of them so far including two since the lockdown started. They are four minutes long and they are a hoot. There are two overt lessons taught relentlessly through every episode:

First, there is no way to prevent hacking. Period.

Second, the best defense is to make it harder for the hacker who lives in a target rich environment. By following the recommended rules, you can make it HARDER for the hackers so they will move on in search of easier pickings.

From counting votes in elections to being sure that your "money" in your bank account does not get stolen (several cartoons feature that horror story) we live in a world driven by digital technology that teenagers can penetrate.

Solution! Put these fuckers in jail for ever!

That’s really cyber security in a nutshell. You follow accepted best practices, do what you can to make things as difficult to hack as possible and try to stay one step ahead of someone trying to hack.

It's time to think smarter.

Hire him, and pay him a CEO salary. Put him in charge of the nation's security.

(They caught him just in the knick of time. The CIA Neocons were poised to announce that Russia had hacked Twitter in order to harm our precious CEOs.)
