Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime associate of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, was arrested Thursday on criminal charges linked to his alleged sex-trafficking operation, according to a law enforcement official.
Ms. Maxwell was arrested in New Hampshire, officials said.
This is also being reported by The Guardian and CNBC, among others. The reports pretty much are similar which probably means they all came from the same source.
I wonder why, after having flaunted the law for nearly one year, Maxwell was finally arrested by the FBI. And probably even more surprising was that she was arrested in New Hampshire after having been reported as living in France which does not always honor its extradition treaty with the United States.
Iceland, France, and Switzerland have been known to harbor U.S. fugitives, like sex-offender/film-maker Roman Polanski, despite having extradition treaties.
Just as with Epstein's mysterious surrender to the FBI after having flown back to the US from Europe, Maxwell's living in the United States set her up for being arrested. Why would she open herself up to being arrested after having seen what happened to Epstein.
Here is Caitlin's take on all of this and she is most likely right.

I agree with Caitlin on not seeing any of the other powerful men will be touched by this. I couldn't form it into a thought, but wouldn't it be typical if Maxwell was given to the fire to shut up the screaming masses while the men get to reap the harvest? The 'virgin' sacrifice so to speak.
Last I heard she was in a country that she couldn't be extradited from and now she just waltzes into New Hampshire? How does that make sense? Epstein too just waltzed into NYC and was arrested and no one gave him the heads up? Sorry I just can't make sense of it.
ETA: Yes I thought it was France she was last seen openly walking around without a care and the world, but then she comes here? This does NOT compute.
As for all the reports coming from the same source that is true. The AP and Reuters are the top of the tentacle for spewing them out and they go to other media outlets. It is very incestuous.

The reason Epstein gave up
Epstein had a phony passport and could have easily fled, but Mossad wanted him dead. He decided to take his chances with prison in the US rather than having Mossad kill him abroad. Didn't work. I was guessing that Ghislaine had fled to Israel and changed identities. This is, of course, risky. If you appear to cease to exist, you are vulnerable to really ceasing to exist. Not sure of her course of action. Maybe keeping her mouth shut and hoping for a light sentence. I imagine she has a plan to reveal a lot if she is suicided.

You have to admit that his death the day after all that damning info came out was just a tad too convenient. Ryan and Saagar mention a few of the men that were named in the report. And lets review Epstein's 2008 sweetheart deal where he wasn't charged with statutory rape or any other serious charges. He was sentenced to a minimum security prison where he was allowed to leave each day to go to work. Or wherever the hell he wanted to and only had to sleep there. Plus on Sunday he got to leave through his open cell door and wander into the guard's break room to watch TV.

This wasn't an easy case for the DOJ
because of 1) the Florida deal with Epstein also gave Maxwell and two other women a complete pass and 2) the settlement in Guiffe's suit against Maxwell include sealing all the documents. Despite his multiple lawsuits, Dershowitz has failed to break that seal.
As the indictment details, the prosecutors had to reach back to claims prior to 2000*. Maria Farmer is credible because she filed a police report, but at the time she was over the age of twenty-one. Who wasn't was her younger sister who was only fourteen at the time.
*Alternatively, credible claims for after 2007 could have been acted on if they were made, but so far there aren't any in that category, at least not within US jurisdiction.

before she cooperates and gets them reduced? If she did take part in assaulting the kids then hell no I don’t want to give her a plea deal. then chances are Maxwell's already turned state's evidence in return for the prosecutor recommending more lenient charges.
In that case, the arrest is just a formality for a deal already done.

some time ago. A "dear friend" of Chelsea and Mark's was invited, and at that time the "dear friend" was in a relationship with Maxwell; so, Maxwell attended as the guest of the "dear friend."

On my travel home
a little while ago, I heard a brief interview on the radio with the author of ‘Filthy Rich’, the book about Jeffery Epstein. The author said that despite his copious digging, he didn’t find evidence of Clinton or Trump being involved with the trafficking. He did say that he thought Epstein’s death was suicide because he would have known he’d never get out of prison this time. He said that Maxwell would be confronting the same circumstances.

just read an inteview with
James Patterson, co-author of "Filthy Rich." Seemed to me that he made the story too small. OTOH (and IMHO) Whitney Webb (and those like minded) have been making it too large or too wide-ranging. To date nobody seems to have been interested in following the money; thus, we get speculations about a blackmail operation, Mossad, etc.
There is but one victim that claims to have been trafficked - Guiffre (who I believe) to Prince Andrew - but the money flowed from Epstein to Andrew. Not saying that there can't be more out there that have yet to surface, but I suspect that underage girls were primarily Epstein's perversion and not his primary income source. In some mysterious way he made himself indispensable to a number of very wealthy people who paid him a considerable amount of money (by most people's standards but not compared to the wealth of his 'clients'). Over the years he likely 'earned' at least $250 million from Wexner alone. However, for over twenty years he was running through $25-50 million/year funding his lifestyle and still had $500 million left over when he died.

No one really knows how Epstein made his wealth. From an article written one year ago right after Epstein was arrested. This article offers up four theories of how Epstein became so wealthy.

Precisely -- well over a billion dollars
in income (not including any income taxes he may have paid) that mysteriously flowed to Epstein.
Some of that, by my estimate no more than $50 million but likely less, was pulled out of Hoffenberg's scams between approximately 1987 and 1991 (that's the earliest date that Hoffenberg has cited). Just enough seed money for Epstein to buy his Palm Beach "mansion" in 1989 and present himself as wealthy and a wealth advisor. That seems to be how he snagged Wexner to a limited extent from 1987 to a larger role by 1989. (The man that claims to have introduced the two has said that it was in 1989, but Wexner's former senior manager can place Epstein in Wexner's main office in 1987.) Epstein was fully involved in Wexner's purchase and renovation of the NYC mansion in 1999 (the one that ended up in Epstein's name a decade or so later). The other early transactions between the two were 1) a house in Wexner's Ohio development (sometime between 1988 and 1991) and 2) distress price sale of a large NYC apartment building owned by Wexner to Epstein's brother in 1990. (one or more units leased to "modeling" agencies.)
Mysteries -- how did Epstein manage to get the lease on the NY Iranian embassy from the State Dept in 1991? That was his NY home base until 1996 when he took over the occupation of Wexner's mansion. (Epstein sublet the embassy in 1996, but that was disallowed by the State Dept and the renewal of the lease was cancelled.)
His 1987 Austrian passport that listed his address in KSA.
His 'serious' money flows began after 1991. And he wasn't a money manager or financier.

I'm not following anyone on this.
Nor do I know of any reporter that's doing much real investigation, much less comprehensive investigation, and development of Epstein and Maxwell story. Although it wouldn't be surprising if there were a couple of reporters working on it for a book. All of what I mentioned above appeared in newspaper and magazine articles and internet available documents. You're asking a lot of me to pull up and check the sources for each of the facts I've cited which I'm not at the moment willing to do. However, if you want more on a couple of them, I am willing to supply those references.
A correction -- it was the NYC Iranian Consulate not an embassy that the State Dept has custody of, and lease was signed in 1992 for two years with the option to renew, possibly endlessly. iirc in some article someone mentioned having attended an Epstein swank party at his house that had been the former residence of Iranian diplomats. I found the details of that in a lawsuit filed by the State Dept against Epstein when he sublet it which was prohibited in the lease agreement.
Propublica published the Wexner charity foundation tax returns -- all of which I trawled through.
