While I'm impressed by the covid climb in the demonstration, I'm much less impressed by it's source.
The John Hopkins CSSE data is showing Michigan at over 1000 new cases per day. All data I can find says otherwise.

As close as I can find, Michigan has been under 200 per day since May 14.
I'm not diminshing the animated graph you posted. This bug is a killer.
But anything from John Hopkins is questionable.
Peace.

@Pricknick

I’ve seen lots of sites questioning John Hopkins stuff. This is why I asked for a discussion. Also there is how the death rate from COVID is calculated. Did people die from COVID or being positive with it when they did? I see people questioning that too.

Thanks.

Edited for clarity

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@Pricknick I looked and there was one very anomalous day, June 5, in which over 5500 cases were reported. I assume this had something to do with a backlog of data or deciding to report seropositives as confirmed cases. Otherwise the new confirmed cases per day were in the 200-400 range. Confirmed cases without other data is a pretty meaningless figure since testing has been so bad. Deaths is more valid but still not completely accurate. It is probably an undercount, particularly in places like NYC where a lot of people died at home and were never tested or admitted to hospital.

@Pricknick

Zero Hedges does a daily report on COVID and today’s report shows how much higher the infection rate is going up. I read that more people have died from COVID than Americans died in WWI or in WWII.

Please still comment on the death rate.

I just thought I’d ask the cat lovers here if this is normal.

Or this..

Lots more on the thread. Should might brighten your day.

@snoopydawg , as the black cat seemed to do for a moment in this video. As for the other cat, even pigs don't eat like that!

The Johns Hopkins chart doesn't show heart disease or cancer.

@snoopydawg @snoopydawg My first reaction though was that these cats are horribly over fed. Especially so if it's a low quality food.

Our just turned 17 matriarch had radioactive iodine treatment almost three years ago for hyperthyroidism. She requires a high quality food so we began buying her Royal Canan when she saw the vet for weight loss. Our younger, 9 years old, male shares 1/3 cup twice daily with her. She is our only grazer so she gets a dozen or so bits a couple times a day by herself to keep her weight up. His sister and the baby, 8 years old, just got cut down to sharing 1/4 cup twice a day. They get a small handful scattered in the kitchen, Easter egg hunt style, before bed. Those bowls are three or more days of food for four cats.

Our two 55# pit mixes only get 3/4 cup twice daily plus snacks. Considering Sam is soon to be 17 I think my wife is on to something with their diets. Overfeeding is not a kindness.

I find it hard to believe that Parkinson's is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and yet it is not listed in the top ten for the United States. Also, no where in that chart is cancer or heart disease listed, which are the two leading causes of death in the United States.

Here is a link that lists the ten top causes of death in the United States pre-COVID. I know comparing world wide death tolls with those in the United States somewhat like comparing apples and oranges. For example malaria is rarely seen in the United States, but it continues to be a major disease worldwide. However, it does seem that there would be some correlation of certain diseases world wide and those same diseases in the US such as cancer and heart disease.

In the link provided above, The effect of COVID-19 on the death rates in the US is briefly discussed. From the link:

However, COVID-19 is the leading cause of death per day, according to a new report by Dr. Maria Danilychev, a San Diego-based physician. Relying on CDC data, her research found the disease causes 1,970 deaths nationwide per day — more than heart disease and cancer.

As bisbonian asks.

From the WW a few weeks back.

Number of deaths for leading causes of death in the US (2017):
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr68/nvsr68_09-508.pdf
Heart disease: 647,457
Cancer: 599,108
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 169,936
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 160,201
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 146,383
Alzheimer’s disease: 121,404
Diabetes: 83,564
Influenza and Pneumonia: 55,672
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis: 50,633
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 47,173

As of Friday, May 22, there were 90,156 deaths from COVID in the US.

Although US cases continue to climb, deaths are currently decreasing. If there's not a big surge in a couple of weeks (after the protests) this may be more scamdemic than pandemic.

@Lookout

Thanks for providing that info. I would also like to see the stats on people who die from lack of health insurance in this country. Pulling a memory from the edge of my brain I think it is over 100,000/year if not higher. Or one from lack of adequate health insurance due to high premiums and deductibles.

Did you hear about the guy who spent 2 months, maybe a tad longer in the hospital and got a $1.1 million hospital bill? Didn't Trump and/or congress decide that the government will pick up the tab on uninsured folks who get COVID?

This fella does have good health insurance so he isn't on the hook for all of it.

@Lookout now are well over 100,000. I don't remember the exact number.

@Granma in US as of the 13th of June. Because of the lack of testing and people dying at home from Covid-19 caused heart attacks and stroke, some experts are saying that comparing number of deaths from prior years to deaths this year, the truer death figure for Covid is the excess deaths this year. That makes sense to me.

up

@Granma the excess deaths this year is at 2%. About 22,000.

The climb to the top of the list of COVID-19 is a choreographed event designed to accentuate its danger, not an exhaustive list of what kills us.

Pricknick’s link above to the user highlightable statistics for specific countries or states gives a much more specific and nuanced picture of the pandemic’s history and trajectory.

Another website has been setup to track and chart the variations in infectivity of the disease (“Rt”) state by state. Rt.Live An Rt>1 indicates growth in the number of infections, an Rt less than 1 indicates decline in the number of infections. I find straight up presentation of data sets to be much more useful than pretty moving bar charts seemingly designed to maximize shock value.
