The world lost a great one to this virus last night.

I'll leave it at five. The enormous volume of his work makes it impossible do it justice in a handful of videos. The character and the goodness of his heart are impossible to describe. He showed it in his music and how he lived in life. A great way to know the man was genuine was through just a few minutes talking with him. I was privileged to speak with him a couple times waiting for flights in the Nashville airport. I saw just about every concert he played at the Ryman Auditorium from about 2003 or so until we moved to Cuenca. I was too busy with the move to go to one last show with my wife and her mother in 2017, too bad for me. They might have been concerts but were more jam sessions with a few hundred of his best friends. He was home and he treated everyone like guests.

This pandemic will take many more, the good ones and the idgits. Y'all be careful out there and don't forget we're all in this together. We need each other if more of us are to get through it. The only thing I want from this experience is for people to learn that we have to come together in peace. Help your friends, neighbors, and family any and every way you can while still staying safe.

Capitalism is the extraordinary belief that the nastiest of men for the nastiest of motives will somehow work for the benefit of all."

She came on stage and sang a couple songs with John. Friends loved her music almost as much as John's. She and John seem to have been kindred spirits musically and politically. Iris though was much more the activist.

I didn't discover John and his music until the early 2000s. His albums Fair and Square is the co-favorite with Souvenirs.

That's about right. This was supposed to be a reply to Ovals49. I'd fix it but I need to go make dinner. Later.

...and was fortunate to see him perform many times from the 70's onward. So many favorites... Here's one from his first album...

Yeah...
Blow up your TV, throw away your paper
Go to the country, build you a home
Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches
Try to find Jesus on your own

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

There’s my criteria for great entertainment and political thought. If it ain't human it's just glitches from a simulacra; maybe distracting and entertaining, but lifeless.

John Prine was most preciously and really human in all his art. He'll last.

@jim p @jim p "Did you ever noticed,
when you're feeling really good,
There's always a pigeon,
that'll come shit on your hood.
Or you're feeling your freedom,
and the world's off your back,
Some cowboy from Texas,
starts his own war in Iraq."

And he got away without any criticism from the rabid right unlike some other country groups who criticized the Iraq flustercluck.

We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.
