Biden explains why we should vote for Bernie

.

A few other tweets that crossed my feed.

Warren makes the case for why she shouldn't endorse Biden.

Note that Bernie has attacked her or her supporters precisely zero times, while I've lost track of how many times she's attacked him, and us.
But I do know she's attacked Biden for his Bankruptcy Bill support, her signature origin story issue, not once.

Warren complains about Bernie's supporters and Rachel eats it up.

Umm yes Liz people were asked that question.

She loves to play the victim. Poor Elizabeth ran for President and went down in flames and we should feel bad. Nobody told her to run.

It's all about herself, then. This is a profile in courage moment and it's just bitterness on display. She is not a leader.

Let's ask this question.

But people are mean.

The rich white blond woman tries to tell Nina that we shouldn't pay any attention to the heinous legislation Biden passed decades ago and boy is she not only wrong, but she is rude and obnoxious.

Kos being kos.

Nope. The PTB don't care if we live or die.

BIG kudos for this one, Snoop. Grand Slam.

It's now excruciatingly obvious Warren is not going to endorse Bernie before the Michigan et al primaries this coming Tuesday.

I'm still guessing she will endorse Biden on Monday to dominate the news cycle before primary day Tuesday but maybe not since it sure appears Biden denied her any spot in his administration, noting in a tweet that she's needed in the Senate.

Edit/Add:

@Wally by an actual endorsement, or by agreeing not to endorse the opponent. And Biden likely asked her to consider both options. Neutrality in this case for Liz amounts more to an endorsement for Joe, even if she doesn't explicitly make one, as she fails to go to the aid of her fellow progressive Bernie.

Warren isn't up for reelect until 2024, iirc, but I think even a few yrs from now plenty of her liberal base will still be sore at her for this one and she may even be primaried from the left. I hope so anyway. If so, she may want to consider other things to do in her twilight years, or possibly a thank you job offer from Joe, if in the unlikely event he's in a position to offer.

Btw, MA currently has a system where a special election is held, w/n 160 days of a senate vacancy, to fill the seat.

Saager: Judge someone by their behavior.

My opinion is Warren is a coward and will not endorse Bernie. Besides she is bitter. If she actually supported the things she said she does she would have dropped out and supported Bernie before super Tuesday. But we knew she didn't believe in those things didn't we? She never attacked Biden for the bankruptcy bill that she said was why she got into politics.

Ride that fence LIZ. You can become Susan Collins after people finally saw through her. High hopes? Nope.

Here is Warren playing the victim again. Go whine some more, Liz. Let's talk about how you robbed a real Native American's spot while you were pretending you were one.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says She’ll Back Democratic Nominee, Even If It’s Not Bernie Sanders

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) may be all in for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the 2020 Democratic primary, but on Thursday the congresswoman committed to supporting whoever wins the party’s nomination.

“I’ve said throughout this entire process that what is so important is that we ultimately unite behind who that Democratic nominee is,” Ocasio-Cortez told “Late Night” host Seth Meyers.

The results of the Super Tuesday primaries effectively mean the race is now between Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden.

“And I think it’s a two-way street,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I’ve been concerned by some folks that say if Bernie’s the nominee, they won’t support him, and the other way around.”

“This is more important than all of us,” she added. “We really need to make sure that we defeat Donald Trump at the polls, assuming, and knowing, how insane it’s going to get between now and then.

support Biden, if he takes the nomination.

(Will post a link to this transcript when I post another excerpt. It's from ABC's This Week.)

SANDERS: I really don't think so.

Look, Trump is such a threat to our Constitution, to our way of life that while Democrats may have differences of opinion -- yes, I have differences with Joe Biden, no great secret. Joe voted for the war in Iraq. Joe voted for a bad bankruptcy bill. Joe voted for bad trade agreements.

But at end of the day, I have known Joe Biden for a very long time, he's a decent guy. I have no doubt that if I win, Joe will be there. If Joe ends up winning, I will be there.

We are going to come together -- and President Obama in my view, I -- he has (ph) said this, will play a leading role in helping whoever the Democratic nominee is.

Think I'll start posting transcripts of the Biden and Sanders interviews on Mondays. Heh, as much as we detest the Sunday show hosts, it's a 'habit' we just can't give up.

Wink

From everything I hear the DP Leadership say--they're totally in this to defeat DT.

Period. End of story. Full stop.

"Unity" will rule the day, regardless of who the nominee is. (Which is not to say that they won't attempt to derail Bernie getting the nomination--I fully expect they will.)

BTW, I'm 'guessing' that AOC's gotten that memo, too.

recognizes that a lowly freshman rep has so little power that it would be pointless for her to get off the blue no matter what train. By staying on at this point, she's also reminding her colleagues that it means they shouldn't jump off if Sanders is the nominee.

She's endorsed Sanders and like him and regardless of the outcome, she wants to live to fight another day. She's so young that it's possible that "another day" in the political landscape may be quite different from today. Why would anyone expect her to foreclose her political future by making an idle threat?

up

@Marie of supporting the Dam nominee, whoever it is. AOC is his most important surrogate. She is not completely free therefore to go out there in his behalf and yet contradict some of his most important stances. She would be making the wrong kind of news for the campaign, and then there would be problems. So, none of this is at all a surprise.

Btw, even if circumstances were different and she had non-surrogate status, she likely would be taking the same stance. I think she picks her battles carefully, but I also believe she is fully invested in her "two-way street" argument.

@Marie @Marie

I read and hear (on Cable teevee), the DP message is one of total 'Unity.'

And, that includes any, and all, Dem lawmakers, and all the DP Presidential candidates. (Along with the MSM, for the most part. Smile )

Could be that a lot of folks don't watch, or listen to any MSM, so, there's a disconnect.

IOW, what is written and said in the liberal/progressive podcasts, videos, in general--or, in what you might call the progressive media bubble--is sometimes quite different from what candidates say when addressing a national teevee audience. Also, true of their surrogates.

Plus, there's the DNC Party Pledge Form all the DP candidates had to sign (in order to run as a Dem). Pretty all encompassing, IMO. (posted a copy of it several days ago)

Bottom line, don't think candidates running as Dems have much choice; unless, they take the leap, and choose to run as third party candidates.

@Marie

She also supported Pelosi for Speaker and then justified it, not by saying "I've gotta do this if I want to stay viable" but by saying "She was the most progressive person running." That supports the establishment's lesser-of-two-evils voting philosophy which erases the fact that there is no progressive running for Speaker and damned few in Congress at all. If you lie about that fact, even by omission, you won't be having any political revolution and you won't get the policies you want--not even mildly-watered-down ones. You might get something massively watered down that will have a name like The Green and Healthy American Big Bucks Act that everyone can applaud. Or you could get nothing. The lie is in the idea that either of those gets your causes, or the American people, anywhere. What it amounts to is not admitting how bad things are. Things rarely get better when people do that.

Yup Tulsi Gabbard is once again not included in the whining about how the media was sexist and wouldn't cover these great women. Not only that, but she has been called a Russian asset and an Assad loving apologist. How anyone can believe that a sitting member of congress and a member of the military could have ties to a foreign power is just absolutely f'cking mind boggling and yet so many people believe just that.

And again the DNC is screwing Tulsi out of her right to run on the DP ticket with equal coverage. But do go on and whine about how poor Harris was written off because she was a black woman. Or the white women and one fraud colored woman weren't covered by the media.

for a few reasons. It originally aired on 12 Jan 2016. That was almost three weeks before the 1 Feb 2016 IA caucus. Both Joe and the interviewer were casual in accepting that Clinton was in trouble against Sanders. Before any votes had been cast!

Biden's stated interpretation of this development was so straight forward and rational that it's hard to believe that it was his own analysis and not something handed to him by a trusted aide. His praise for Sanders both as a man of integrity and working for the good of the common people was a dig at Clinton. That was reinforced by dismissing Clinton's claim to be for the common people as relatively new to her. I like to say that this is nothing like what an outgoing VP would do when his party has a horse in the race and that horse is much in line politically with the current administration and the record of the VP. But that expectation is merely hypothetical because in living memory there was only two outgoing VPs that weren't running for president, and one, Cheney, was in a totally discredited administration and his party had long before the general election accepted a loss.

By 1/16 Biden fully understood that Clinton would be the nominee, but nevertheless didn't fully comprehend why he hadn't been allowed to try and fulfill his life-long ambition. Yet, he wasn't in a position to directly criticize Clinton. As he along with almost everyone else fully expected that Clinton would win the ge, he wasn't about to burn his bridges. Also, he wouldn't have overlooked the summer and early fall 2015 polling with him in the race; he took equally from Clinton and Sanders even as his and his boss' records differed greatly from that of Sanders and were only slightly different from Clinton's. But most voters fall for hype and not facts.

Was Biden taken to the woodshed after that interview? That's not Obama's style, but perhaps camp Clinton did. Whatever, it disappeared quickly enough that few people saw it.

Not directly on topic, but it would be very interesting to juxtapose this interview with a recent one. Not so much for content but to compare his lucidity and speech patterns. I've noted that Biden mostly spoke well in the debates, but not so well at campaign events. There's no hint of a stutter in that 2016 interview; so, Biden's defenders are full of chit to make such an excuse for his 2019-20 lapses.
