BREAKING (My Heart)

According to Drudge Report (9 am MST, Saturday 2/15/2020):

EXCLUSIVE: BLOOMBERG CONSIDERS HILLARY RUNNING MATE

Sources close to Bloomberg campaign tell DRUDGE REPORT that candidate is considering Hillary Clinton as running mate, after their polling found the Bloomberg-Clinton combination would be formidable force...

DRUDGE has learned that Bloomberg himself would go as far as to change his official residence from New York to homes he owns in Colorado or Florida, since the electoral college makes it hard for a POTUS and VPOTUS from the same state... Developing..

I'm sure you're as excited as I am by this most excellent news. Who among us wouldn't want Vice President Hillary Rodham Clinton back in service to our nation? And just think, a few drops of poison here and there, and voilà -- Madame President!!

If true, this indicates Bloomberg's desperation as he realizes that Bernie Sanders will squish him like a bug despite a gazillion dollars in Bloomie Bucks.

If untrue, this indicates Bloomberg's desperation as his struggling campaign floats insipid ideas guaranteed to gin up additional press coverage. After all, who doesn't like watching a slow-motion train wreck?

There's only one thing I need to know now. How do we alert the PUMAs?

as implied in this essay, then IMHO, Bloomberg and Clinton have been in cahoots from the beginning of Mikey's throwing his hat in the ring. Those two running together is the apex of the Citizens United ruling. There may not be any more primaries in the future, just oligarchs buying the positions if Bloomberg's run is successful.

I have no proof, just my gut overriding my head. Although I do have reservations as to Hillary actually taking a second seat to Bloomberg.

@laurel IMHO, the sliver lining would be that it would be absolutely impossible for the “vote blue no matter who” types to pretend there’s a difference anymore.

As a side note, I’ve already seen these types using the same “you are helping the GOP” garbage in response to criticism of Bloomberg. Do these people not realize Bloomberg himself has literally been helping the GOP as least as recently as the 2018 election? Morons!

@JtC
but Bloomberg's run itself has nothing to do with Citizens United (and reversing Citizens United wouldn't preclude it).
This is a combination of a) allowing the unlimited accumulation of wealth and b) allowing a wealthy person to spend an unlimited amount of their own money promoting their own candidacy.
Mandatory public financing (with a strictly limited contribution of your own money, possibly zero) might help with b).

on the "insurance" notion, that commonly-held belief of Democrats and the so-called "Left" in America that voting for Democrats somehow magically counts as insurance against Republican rule, regardless of what "mistakes" the Democrats make. The "insurance" notion needs to die, and the sooner the better. Electing Democrats is not "insurance" against Republican rule.

According to the magic formula, Democrats who make "mistakes" are "centrists," but still they are better than Donald J. Trump, presumed to be the worst President evah (never mind James Buchanan or Warren Harding), and somehow these "centrists" amount to something even though they are the main reason Trump is in office. The "insurance" notion thrives when history is ignored.

Bernie Sanders repeats (and believes in) this litany, though Sanders has a valid excuse in that he would have no cred if he were not running as a Democrat and thus supporting the eventual nominee (which he did by campaigning for Hillary Clinton). We don't have Sanders' excuse unless we are running for office as Democrats.

During Barack Obama's tenure as President, the "centrists" of the Democratic Party gave up all branches of the Federal government and 900-plus state legislative seats to the Republican Party. People like to blow this off as if it didn't mean anything when it is the primary fact of political existence in America today. Barack Obama bears plenty of responsibility for having engineered Democratic Party fundraising to promote this giveaway.

True believers in the "insurance" notion try to heap their disdain on Ralph Nader's old statement that there isn't a "dime's worth of difference" between the Republicans and the Democrats. There can be as much difference between the Democrats and the Republicans as you want; the key fact is that when push comes to shove the Democrats make way for the Republicans. As long as that key fact is the rule, the "insurance" notion is BS.

The "insurance" notion is what motivates this "Open Letter to the Green Party," signed by Noam Chomsky, Barbara Ehrenreich, Bill Fletcher, Leslie Cagan, Ron Daniels, Kathy Kelly, Norman Solomon, Cynthia Peters and Michael Albert, a group which really ought to know better and which is wasting its copious free time by picking on a very small political party. It argues:

If Clinton got Jill Stein’s Green votes in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, Clinton would have won the election.

Yes, and if Trump had gotten Gary Johnson's votes in those states, he still would have won the election. Moreover, with Clinton in power, you'd still get Republican policy, only nobody would be pissed off about it because the main person in power would have a (D) next to her name. Maybe we'd have a few more wars, too. Democrats like war.

It also says:

Still, if these voters who preferred Stein did indeed erroneously believe that there was no difference between Trump and Clinton, surely to some degree that was a result of Stein refusing to acknowledge the special danger of Trump,

Could we get some clarification about what the "special danger of Trump" really is? Presumably, it's that danger that didn't exist when Reagan, Bush One, Clinton One, Bush Two, or Obama was President, and since plenty of dangers existed when those guys were President, it's got to be pretty unique. I'm sure it looks a lot like the "danger" that exists when a member of the ruling class is honest about his aims rather than disguising them with a bunch of smooth talk. What else distinguishes the "special danger of Trump"? Anti-environmentalism? We got that from Reagan, so it can't be that. Voter suppression? Republicans did that under Obama too. Anti-immigrant fervor? Don't forget Barack Obama, the record deporter.

It also argues:

We have no way to assess the claim that Greens would find it dispiriting to remove themselves as a factor that might abet global catastrophe via a Trump re-election.

I'm sorry, but is global catastrophe only going to happen via a Trump re-election? See, Bloomberg puts the kibosh on this one, a Republican with a (D) next to his name. He's Trump with a lot more money and pretending to believe that climate change is real. Global catastrophe will happen under his rule. The "insurance" notion needs to die, and the sooner the better, because it has infected a lot of people who ought to know better.

Trump has only gone to bat for those on the right that got caught engaging in criminal activities. As second Trump term could see him going after the "Russiagate" hoaxers, but apparently that doesn't scare those DP folks enough to back the only candidate with a good chance to beat Trump.

@Marie

Andrew McCabe is not going to prosecuted for lying to the FBI. The justice department just let him know that he is free from being charged for it. Durham and Barr are just stringing Trump's base along with their investigation into how Russia Gate got started. Manafort went to prison while Hillary's BFF Podesta who did many of the same things got off. Why the FBI is still charging Flynn is ridiculous. His lawyer has proof that Comey and others said Flynn did not lie to them.

But the bottom line for me is if Trump really wanted to shut down the investigation into his campaign he could have had the NSA release data that showed no Russian entity hacked the DNC computers. This would have left a trail. There is more things Trump could have done, but this is a few things I can think of off the top of my head.

I have long thought Trump was in on everything that has happened because it's such a great distraction from what he's doing that the media isn't covering. Why did Obama wait 3 years to release his long form birth certificate? It was a great distraction too. Yeah I hate being this cynical, but there it is.

up
9 users have voted.

@snoopydawg And it's one hell of a diversion, isn't it? Keeps that flame of hope going on both "sides" and distracts from all that stuff neither side wants us paying attention to. If Trump wasn't on their side from the beginning, whether he got the infamous Zapruder lecture or not, he's in it for what he can get out of it and really, all it would take to get him there is to tell him how he'll personally profit, no threats even necessary. He's not about draining any swamp and never was. A good carnival barker though, isn't he? He seems to innately know just how much bullshit to feed his base as well as the hopeful out there who think he'll turn on our owners. As for Barr, he's not going to truly expose anyone, he's in it for power and he'll back whoever currently has it publicly, knowing full well whose real bidding he's doing.

Again? This is what Durham is trying to find out. He told congress that he didn't use the Steele dossier in his report saying Russia interfered with the election. But Comey said that he was insistent on using it.

And remember he lied about the NSA not spying on us when it was and he knew it. So we'll see if Durham charges him. I'm betting no.

Trump said Barr could release any information on Russia Gate, but he hasn't. The folks from VIPS have spoken to a few people in his administration about how the DNC computers couldn't have been hacked and one republican spoke with Julian Assange about the emails and yet we haven't heard anything about that. But then there is Trump going after Assange too. This is just more proof of Trump going along with our hegemonic crap. The game is rigged and Trump is playing along with it.

of the political spectrum.

It's pretty telling when a campaign's strategy is to encourage the worst opponent to win the other party's nomination because that will make it easier for your candidate to win. Also telling when a campaign's strategy is to keep the candidate off the stage and off camera for as long as possible, releasing carefully controlled video and images to get everyone "Ready for Hillary."

I've never seen those strategies before. They show that her campaign knew from the beginning how weak she was. At least, in the sense of being able to appeal to the public.

Now she is in some ways better positioned, as you point out, because they managed to sell Russiagate to enough people. But I'm thinking most of those people voted for her anyway. My anecdotal information would bear that out. These are the same people who made excuses for her to begin with.

What is more disturbing to me is how the media barrage has managed to peel away former Bernie voters and to create ugly impressions of him in the minds of people who should know better.
