Sanders can challenge in Red States

Conventional wisdom is that Democrats should run Republican-lite and ex-Republican candidates in Red States.
The conventional wisdom is wrong.

Bernie polls the best against Trump in Texas.

If the Democrats in Texas want to turn the state blue in the 2020 presidential election, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is currently their best candidate, according to a new poll...
With fewer than nine months until Election Day, the Texas Lyceum poll shows Trump holds a lead ranging from 4 to 8 percentage points over each of the potential Democratic nominees, with Sanders polling closest to the president, 50 to 47, among likely 2020 general election voters.

As for the rest of the Democrats, Biden trails Trump by 5 points, 51% to 46%, Warren trails Trump by 8 points, 52% to 44%, and Buttigieg is 8 points behind the president, 51% to 43%.

That poll could be an outlier, but consider this poll from the deep-red state of Utah.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) leads his closest competitor in the race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination in Utah by 13 points, according to a poll released Monday.

Sanders had the support of 27 percent of likely Democratic voters in the Suffolk University/The Salt Lake Tribune survey. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) trails Sanders with 14 percent and former Vice President Joe Biden came in third at 12 percent. No other Democratic presidential candidate had double-digit support.

Bernie also beats Trump by the most in Michigan.

Recall how Bernie won caucuses in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Wyoming among others in 2016.
And how the head-to-head matchups looked in 2016.

To be fair, Bernie does poorly in retirement states like Florida and Arizona.

a candidate like Sanders. HRC lost AZ by only 90k last time.

But Ds would need to devote far more resources to Latino GOTV, which has to now been a pathetic effort. Bernie could also help his case with the pick of a Latina VP, as someone here suggested the impressive Latina gov of NM Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Dems would have to double up on their doubled up effort in AZ in order to win TX, which Clinton lost by 9 pct points, a fairly large deficit to completely overcome the next cycle. Same problem there with inadequate Latino turnout.

I think otherwise Sanders would be a strong candidate in MI, WI and PN. The key is to select a Dem nominee who will be able to generate enthusiasm, who will stand for something meaningful and bold, and who will aggressively carry the fight to the Don. People will turn out for someone strong like that despite ideological differences. Especially when the added bonus is ousting the dangerous and demented Trump.

The DNC Approved And Kept Private A Generous Exit Package For Tom Perez And Two Top Deputies

The proposal, put forward as an official DNC resolution during a meeting of the party’s budget and finance committee last Friday, would have arranged for Perez and two of his top deputies, CEO Seema Nanda and deputy CEO Sam Cornale, to each receive a lump-sum bonus equaling four months’ salary within two weeks of the time they eventually leave their roles.

Senior DNC officers, including members of Perez’s own executive committee, learned of the compensation package after its approval, through the rumor mill, setting off a furious exchange of emails and texts over the weekend to determine what had been proposed, and by whom.

After BuzzFeed News inquired about the proposal late on Monday evening, Perez told DNC officers in an email that he, Nanda, and Cornale would not accept any “extra compensation” when they leave their posts.

Outside the party’s budget and finance committee, DNC leadership who spoke on the condition of anonymity said they were astounded to learn that on the eve of the presidential primary, and at a time when the Democratic Party is facing a tremendous fundraising deficit, plans were being made to propose a generous compensation package for Perez and such a select group of his top deputies.

“I think it is completely short-sighted and really stupid,” one senior official said.

I'd approve of giving Perez six months if he leaves this week! Cheap at the price.

@snoopydawg odd point in time makes me think he is not on board with something that was or is being done, or will be done soon by the DNC. So it is reasonable to ask 'What level of heinous and disgusting act by the DNC is so reprehensible and despicable that even Tom Perez wants to distance himself from it?'.

On edit: One possibility is that the list of Bernie hating nominees for the convention committees was not created by Perez, but he was pressured to be the fall guy for the list.

Or maybe it's just that he knows that the new President, whoever he or she may be, will be selecting a new DNC chair and that it won't be him.

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Down South, people place much stock in Biblical sayings. The passage quoted above, often colloquialized as "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!", explains why Bernie Sanders does so well against all his opponents, everywhere. Americans are tiring of the stand-for-nothings that the investor classes want in office. And Bernie stands for something, and has done so consistently for 50+ years now. He is "hot", and will not be "spewed".

See this article from The Intercept:

Though Biden continues to be older voters’ candidate of choice, that support is beginning to wane. The most recent Siena College/New York Times survey of likely Iowa caucus-goers found a 17-point swing away from Biden and toward Sanders among those age 45 to 64.

The social security ads are doing real damage.

I don't understand why anyone would think Biden would be the person we need after Trump. It was partly his fault we have Trump in the first place.

Can anyone name one thing Biden did that helped us?
