Friday Photography - Last of the Callas

Evening everyone. I hope this is the start of an enjoyable weekend for you.

With the exception of early mornings and late evenings it's very hot here, and almost no sign of rain in sight for at least another month.

Anyway, I'm tired of looking at the snow, so something from a warmer era:

I remember attempting to play along with a Coltrane recording, but gave up within seconds........

Stan Getz I can follow (kind of).

Oh, and thanks for posting Janis.

You always put a smile on my face. I was going to block quote the Maria Callas part, but then I realised that your entire comment should be blockquoted!

A gem of a place. Been there about 4 times over the years. Not a national park, so it's never been very crowded, but wonderful all the same. Much flora and fauna.

Also, the downtown of Rapid City (hidden by the surroundings of the interstate), is rather wonderful.

Recommended, but don't tell anyone.

@Bollox Ref GREAT pic BR! Beautiful. I missed SD in my peregrinations, always wanted to go see it. Great composition. Vertical framing on sides, good foreground focus on the pine needles, plus the depth of field for the distant hills... great picture!

@boriscleto Beautiful photos BC! What an animal that Snow Leopard is, as is the Amur. We got the short end of the stick on Starlings here in America. If they were going to introduce one, they could have picked Superb or Rose-colored, but noooo we get Shakespeare's. Wink Great pix!

Your imagery of animals in snow is enchanting.

The Guanaco, with its frosty ears and nose is even more fascinating than the camouflaged leopard in snow and ground or rock.

And, is that the bluest of bluebirds?

We finally got some rain here in central Texas, we got 3" in one event and another half plus the other day, lifting my area from D2 to D1 on the drought monitor. So everyone here is happy.

@dystopian

you’re running for one of Rosie’s tacos!

Nice snail and smooth Texan jazz. Glad for you, for the rain.

I’m not sure this calla lilly is native to anywhere. Because of the colour I always thought it might have been genetically engineered in a lab somewhere. It’s a gift from my sister while she was visiting me here, and has provided 5 years of enjoyment.

Rosie closes early so I was by there earlier in the day. Guilty as charged. Wink It is the best this side of Durango where she is from, and the only place I ever had a Tamale like hers. You will find me to be very loyal. Smile

So it is Africa for the win! I think there are many engineered flavors/varieties.

Zantedeschia aethiopica, commonly known as calla lily and arum lily, is a species in the family Araceae, native to southern Africa in Lesotho, South Africa, and Swaziland.[1]

@janis b It is an old outdoor carpet remnant outside for wiping feet on. But collect water when it rains, and out come the drinkers. Once it rained so much the seeds that come off from my foot-wiping sprouted.

I need to shoot the pix to my friend that spits out the scientific names of any snail here at a glance. Oh a few he has to look down his nose at closer, but what a naturalist Tony is.

I love snails. They are a pest in the Spring though, when I have to collect them at night before they eat up all the lettuce. The tiny babies are impossible to collect. I don't have the heart to kill them, so I just dump them somewhere far enough away from the garden, where they can munch on other stuff. They have very big appetites.
