Medicare is not perfect and does not cover everything, even with all the optional parts that they offer, but it is pretty straight up honest coverage that includes a huge number of physicians and hospitals and give patients more control over their care than any of the managed care options that are being sold as “advantageous”. They are, in fact, advantageous; to the insurer’s bottom line, but not likely to the customer/patient.

I was appalled when the 'let's medicate your energetic kid' started happening. Most of the anti depressant meds are contraindicated for people under a certain age. When did we start seeing kids acting up in school? When the curriculum changed and it became rote and constant testing. Kids of course got bored and started acting out. And parents got more busy and stressed out because they were working 2=3 jobs and they had no time for their kids and too tired of weekends for getting outside.

Prozac came along and lots of doctors put people on it without really understanding the side effects of putting people on it who weren't really clinically depressed. Can they help? Yep. Can they hurt though? Absolutely. Prozac sent me into a major manic episode with constant suicidal ideation. Oh what fun that was. I couldn't get off them fast enough. I just wish people had time to research what doctors put them on and that they had more time to get outside and do something physical. Besides loving to walk and owing it to my dawgs to make their lives more fun I walk to keep my mood up. Rain, snow or shine I am out walking daily with less than 10 days staying home because of the wind or a real downpour. Even walked in a huge snowstorm, broke my ankle that day and was out walking again within a week. Crutches in the snow... yeah, but.

I guess the most shocking thing to me in this essay was that psychiatrists and everything about them has been prostituted.
I did not know that chemical imbalance had been debunked.
Since I am often involved in child custody disputes, over and over, "She overmedicates my kid"; "my kid is so lethargic from meds, I refuse to give them to him"; "my kid is out of control, needs meds"...and on, and on, and on. And until Snoopy brought her link to my attention, I thought chemical imbalance was legitimate. I intend to research this more, bring it to some parents' and some judges' attention.
I have long since noticed the together in bed with drs. and pharmaceutical sales, but did not know they also got into bed with the FDA.
