That makes TWO lives Bernie has saved this past year
Imagine for a moment that Trump, or Biden, or Mayor Pete saved someone's life.
The headlines would be screaming it. Their campaigns would be pushing the story hard.
It would make incredibly good PR.
...and then there is the Sanders campaign, which is like no other political campaign in my lifetime.
Remember this from late 2018?
Last week, Senator Bernie Sanders was out for a walk when he saved a woman from walking into oncoming traffic. The woman posted a selfie online with the Senator and he then returned back to work where he told no one about it. His staff only found out about it after the post went viral.
WTF Bernie? It's not amazing that he kept the girl from walking into traffic. It's amazing that he was so humble that he didn't bother to tell anyone.
That is just off-the-scale.
Then this happened yesterday.
Naval Air Force veteran John Weigel, who considered suicide because of $139,000 in medical debt, offered Sen. Bernie Sanders his brown leather flight jacket on Monday to thank the Democratic presidential candidate for his help regaining health insurance and raising funds to cover medical bills."Thank you for rescuing me," Weigel, a 58-year-old who lives with Huntington's disease, told Sanders (I-Vt.) at a campaign rally in Carson City, Nevada. The White House hopeful responded that "it's a beautiful jacket. It's a jacket that you earned and I want you to keep it." However, Sanders did accept a flight patch from the jacket.
When I met John, a veteran, a few months ago, he had $139,000 in medical debt.
Thankfully today he is doing much better.

Once again, can you imagine this happening to ANY other candidate?
Can you imagine Trump turning down the jacket?
Can you imagine how much this would impact the polls if it wasn't for the Bernie Blackout?

but then she's a very rare non-standard candidate as well.
I know this essay is sort of feel-good click-bait'ish, but there is something real below the headlines. Bernie shows not just humanity, but humility as well, and that's so necessary and important that I would probably vote for him even if he weren't a leftist.
The Right Stuff
Bernie is made of the right stuff. The real deal. All the way to the bone. The phonies neither understand nor get it. And so are scared shitless. For as much as the media loves feel-good newsporn stories, it really shows the blackout on all things Bernie, when things like this are not out there. But Biden being three times Bernie's poll#'s is. Dog forbid the people find out what a real deal he is. They would all vote for him if they knew. Most would rather play pretend with their plastic phony neolib fad de jour.

Bernie is up there
in another class of humans. The same class as Jimmie Carter, 1000 years old and still building houses for the homeless.
Selfless individuals, a totally alien term to people like Trump or Biden.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.

he is one of the rare politicians I wish would live forever. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I have never seen a video of him speaking in a smug/arrogant way.

great comment, so true. It is like when you are really good at something, you do not have to say so, and one that has that need is invariably not as good at it as the one that doesn't. Most truly great guitarists will say 'there ain't no best', like Roy Buchanan did. If you are good at something, let others say so. Bernie would help a thousand people without saying anything. Trump or Hillary couldn't help one without making sure everyone knows. It is pitiful, the poor narcissists.
