Shaun King: Don’t be so sure supporters of Bernie Sanders would easily switch to Hillary Clinton come the general election

Shaun King has written an insightful article that contends what many of us Bernie Sanders-supporters have said for months: that Hillary Clinton shouldn't count on Bernie's supporters to just jump on the Hillary bandwagon should she win. King's article was spurred on by Bernie's interview with Cenk Uygar on The Young Turks:
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggFitmOTSok]
Regarding the automated procession to Hillary from Bernie, King:
I'm not buying it. Daily, I have dozens of Bernie Sanders supporters who tell me that if Bernie Sanders loses the primary to Clinton that they would rather somehow see him run as an independent or that they would even consider voting for a third party candidate such as Jill Stein of the Green Party before they would support Clinton.
This is a big reason that I thought Hillary would have been much better off following her early strategy against Bernie: agree when possible, encourage his competitiveness, and be friendly rather than combative. But this IS Hillary Clinton that we're talking about, so we knew that wouldn't last long.
On Bernie's answer when Cenk asked about campaigning for Hillary:
Now, of course Bernie gave the typical spiel on how he is "in this campaign to win it," but when Cenk pushed Bernie for an answer, he pretty much refused to say he'd campaign for her. Seeing the opening, Cenk pushed Bernie on how he "had pretty much convinced millennials that Hillary was the establishment candidate" and asked again if he would get behind such an establishment candidate and campaign for her. Bernie wasn't vague in his answer. Instead, he very clearly told Cenk that he was more interested in what the democratic establishment would do to meet him halfway and then went right into a full fledged critique of the party.
Cenk did have one juicy question left: if Bernie won, was Hillary Clinton liberal enough to be in his cabinet?
Bernie was classic Bernie:
Bernie replied, "Oh, stop getting me in trouble here. There are other people that I would probably go to before Hillary Clinton... people like Elizabeth Warren, for example."
Bang! Beautiful, Bernie. Just beautiful.

TESTIFY!
(I am from east Texas, spent lots of time in tent revivals hearing drooling people scream, "Testify!")
I was testifying to prove up attorney's fees yesterday in a court case, and the judge turned me loose, so I swore both to God, and to JAYSUS, that I would TESTIFY! I had the whole court room in stitches.
And I was awarded attorney's fees.

Effectiveness of opposition research.
Any material that Republican opposition research on Hillary that they use against her, however accurate it may be, will be just the Republicans preaching to their own choir. Clintonistas will dismiss it out of hand, while Berniecrats will see it as broken clock case. Democrats are used to seeing Hillary as a decades-long victim of right-wing attacks.
The Democrats who are open to criticizing her
are already convinced. The indies, which is more important in the general, despise her.
She's not trying to win by making people like and trust her. She's trying to win via terror of Trump.

I would hope that any elected, popular
House or Senate democrat would refuse to go a position in either of their administrations. I've always thought it foolish to poach democrats from elected positions -they always take the most effective people from the legislatures and governorships, leaving us weak and vulnerable to loss of that seat.
After the primary
So suppose Bernie is the nominee. There have been people in the establishment of the dem party who said they wouldn't support Bernie. Why is the onus on him anyway. What is that frickin' party gonna do for the 99 percent of us?

As if anyone cares:
I will state yet again: "I will not be voting for Hillary Clinton in the fall. If need be I will write in Bernie Sanders on the general election ballot." Some people seem to think I must agree with their version of political reality and vote for HRC in order to qualify as sane. I respectifully disagree with the implied syllogism.
Americans' view of electoral politics is so very parochial, it borders upon insanity. You, the gentle reader, may disagree, and so be it.
I'm with you, PriceRip.
I'm starting to hear stories about this here and there.
So I'm guessing we are far from alone.
'Well, I've wrestled with reality for thirty five years, Doctor, and I’m happy to state I finally won out over it." Elwood P. Dowd "
You are far from being alone on that. eom
I'm writing in Sanders, regardless.
There was not ever any way I was going to vote for Hillary Clinton. Period.
I made that decision BEFORE she announced her candidacy. I expect there are many more who did the same.
If she's the nominee, November will be a VERY rude awakening for her and her.... sycophants.
If I had supported her at the beginning of her campaign,
I wouldn't support her now. Regardless of whom she ran against. Her lying and her use of race--on both sides of the race war now--to generate percentage pts for her in the polls, regardless of the consequences to the country--had done in any chance of my supporting her a couple months ago. But even if that weren't true...
Election fraud is a Rubicon.

One of the most infuriating things
about not supporting Hillary Clinton is the idea that the only reason I don't like her is because of right-wing media brainwashing--and if FOX hadn't gotten me, I'd just love her like they do. And that's just such a bunch of shit! I haven't liked her since I first heard of her in 1991, when her husband began his run for President. I can point to some influence from my mom to this end--we were really close and we talked politics all the time. And this was all before the Internet.
I couldn't put my finger on it for a long time as to exactly what about her made me dislike her so intensely at the time (I supported her husband in '92 only), but Mom used to say "She's power hungry. You just watch, she'll end up running for President someday" and I used to laugh at her. I thought she was being a little over-the-top on that much, but didn't she turn out to be right? Dear FSM! Mom passed in 2002, and somewhere on the Other Side, she is just losing her shit over this...
that could be my sig ;->
"Some people seem to think I must agree with their version of political reality and vote for HRC in order to qualify as sane. I respectfully disagree"
If I wasn't so attached to mine I would totally poach it. :)
It's quite the statement.

Good to see you, too! Thanks!
The no Hillary, no matter what sentiment is more
widespread than party loyalists can allow themselves to believe. They've always been able to count on "better than the other guy." This time, maybe not so much. Rebellion is in the air (and maybe in the water and food and pharma). People are fed up with Bill hot-dogging and breaking laws with impunity, too.

Perhaps she should not have made that face?

Glad to see you here GBB
I look at Bernie's Run as the most incredible political happening in my lifetime. I'm glad to be here sharing this with similar minded folks. We need to reclaim the Democratic Party or replace it. Voting for Hillary just delays the inevitable for another 4 or 8 years. Not acceptable. How can the Democratic party be the party of the Neoliberal Wall Street vultures? The 1% own just about everything that we have, forcing us to pay them rent on it, and now they have our party. Who stands for the 99%? There is a vast amount of wealth in the US. At least 2T$ hiding in offshore accounts. Yet the government, along with the help of the corporate Democrats, are telling us that we have to sacrifice. The two sides of the scale weigh our survival against their greed. Just take a look at the fucking federal laws on bankruptcy. Who pushed that through and on whose watch? Whose side is Hillary on? It should be obvious.
A vote for Hillary is a vote to screw Americans out of their future, and by the way to get us entangled on another war of regime change, one of her favorites. As a lifelong Democrat I could never vote for Hillary, never. I support the next generation and I'm telling the old loyal Democrats to get out of the way. This is not the 1990s and no Clinton should be acceptable to a real Democrat. The Republicans were ascending when Bill Clinton ran for president. Now they are in a mess, which completely takes away the rationale for a compromised, triangulating, DLC, to-the-right-of-center, New Deal killing Democrat.

Social Media could easily
make Jill Stein a viable candidate given the anger at the establishment. If Hillary gets the nomination and especially if the GOP fractures into 2 candidates, I think Jill Stein would have a shot. With the imminent catastrophes that climate change will bring, Hillary's nomination might signal the beginning of a time when the Green Party will represent the left.
Beware the bullshit factories.
My guess is that no more than
50% would vote for HRC. And the other 50 percent would likely be split pretty evenly between voting for a repug, voting for a 3rd party and not voting.
And why is that simply because we cant make it here anymore.
Tip of hat to Mr. McMurtry
I think 50% might be quite a generous estimate.
I honestly think, based on the Berners that I talk to that the number may be closer to the low 30's that will cross over.
Many of the people that are fired up over Bernie are that way exactly because he is NOT a representative of the the establishment.
Some are so disgusted that they will (I am not saying it's right) vote for Trump over Sanders as a "Fuck you" to the establishment.
The only thing I am fairly certain of is a Hillary nomination could very well be the death knell of the Democratic party, and sadly, I am not entirely sure that's a bad thing.
"I used to vote Republican & Democrat, I also used to shit my pants. Eventually I got smart enough to stop doing both things." -Me
Perhaps Trump over Clinton
But not Trump over Sanders. Hillary is to the right of both regarding trade, war and corporate donations. Bernie is the best choice for me, an honest man with policies I agree with, not beholden to our corporate sponsors.
