How does one put a negative spin on the biggest campaign event of the primary?

Pity the poor political hack that is tasked with the job of turning what would be great news for literally any other candidate into something that looks bad.

Still, the reactions further exposed the race and class tensions in this gentrifying slice of Queens.

“These people were coming from near, far — but they weren’t from Queensbridge,” the tenant association president, April Simpson, told a reporter for Patch. “That rally wasn’t for us.”
Ms. Simpson, who did not respond to requests from The Times for comment, told Patch that the Sanders campaign reached out only on Friday, and that the time of the rally conflicted with a tenants association meeting.
...
Bishop Mitchell Taylor, a community leader, said the people in the park looked “like tourists.” In the Patch article, he called the event “a pretty white rally.”

Wait, I thought Bernie supporters are "too urban".
Now they are back to being too white?
But the underlying problem here is that the crowd was too big!
If only Bernie was more considerate and had smaller rallies, then people that didn't support him wouldn't have to complain.

“I was a little, I wouldn't say the word ‘upset,’ I was just a little discouraged because I found out the day before,” Simpson told Gothamist....
Simpson added, “I like Mr. Sanders. I've never met him. As far as my voting capacity he's just not the one for me. However, he knows about public housing.”
Bishop Mitchell Taylor, another community leader who lives near Queensbridge Park, said he did not receive any notice about the rally either. “If you're going to come to someone's backyard you should at least invite the people who live in the yard, instead of using their yard as a prop,” he said. (Simpson and Taylor were both vocal supporters of Amazon’s failed proposal to build a headquarters in Long Island City, a move that Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez opposed.)

So everyone else in NYC knew about the rally except for the people living there. Does that sound right?

Ray Normandeau, who runs the Queensbridge-focused website Normandeau Newswire, told Gothamist that he attended the rally, and posted information on his site roughly a week ahead of time. He estimated that a few hundred of his neighbors attended.

"It was on the Queensbridge website for a full week with big graphics," Normandeau told Gothamist. "I can't see how people could say they don't know about it. It has been said there were no flyers. There was a tenant association meeting on Saturday as well. There were no flyers about that."
...
To live in Queensbridge Houses and not know about the rally, Mr. Normandeau said, “sounds specious.” He added: “Obviously, if 25,000 people showed up, it wasn’t kept a secret.”

Right-wing political hacks have it easier. They can be more direct with their smears.

@Snode
Tens of thousands of people all cheering for someone. All of those people sounding happy and getting motivated to join a cause to make the world a better place.

How annoying!
Those kids need to get off my lawn!

Why can't Bernie do like Hillary did and Biden still does? Small groups of unmotivated people who quietly don't want to fix anything.
Those crowds will never bother anyone.

Negative spin?: Remember it was AOC who put the kibosh to Amazon's new facility - within sight of where the rally took place 25 - 40K jobs at $100K per year salary. Yeah, it's capitalism but it's also jobs. This at a time when Long Island is going down hill quickly and older neighborhoods are looking more like the "hood". You asked for a negative spin, I'm just giving one.

@fakenews We're having an Amazon distribution center rammed down our throats. Oh traffic won't be that bad. Just 1200 more cars to an already bumper to bumper rush hour. Truck traffic won't increase that much. Just 28 tractor trailers an hour, 24 hours a day. And the distrubution center for the 7th largest furniture retailer in the country is already right across the street. (No where near 28 trucks 24 hours a day). So who needs an environmental impact study, we'll just declare there won't be an environmental impact. Give them a 30 year tax break because we need those 1000 30k/year jobs (don't tell anyone they'll be temp positions with no benefits).

@boriscleto Probably should have looked at it more closely, but unlike other sites (Dkos) I see the votes on the responses and have a change of view. One of the few places on the intertubes were I trust the majority. With all the cash changing hands thru Amazon - a tiny fraction to go to public building projects is not a horrible expectation.

@fakenews
Entire old neighborhoods replaced with huge rectangles faced with fiber-concrete panels.
A 650 square foot apartment in my block now goes for $1480 or more, with a bonus of 24-hour BNSF heavy freight noise.
Residents are told their neighborhoods don't count and must just make room for these people, while non-desk job people communte from 30-40 miles out.

The default assumption should be that polls are not correct. That they are forms of gas lighting until proven otherwise.

I just looked at how many views Joe Rogan's interview of Bernie received so far: 10,153,750. Supposedly it was Kyle Kulinski who sold the idea to Rogan.

@MrWebster to be sold by someone to have Bernie on his show??? Seems like a no-brainer, a guest who would be consonant with the many younger viewers Rogan has. Was Joe worried about a lengthy policy wonk discussion boring his audience? Or too lefty?

that at the rally Bernie said something about being willing to fight for *gasp* people you don't even know!

What kind of unAmerican horsepuckey is that?! It sounds like something one of those darn Commies would say! I bet that rally was filled with Russian trolls and bots! Just a big bunch of Russian assets, I tell you. Where's the CIA and DHS when you need 'em?

Now, where's my Hillary Kamala Warren Klobuchar sign? I'm with her!!!
