What a gorgeous dog! But such a sad day for you and Charlie. Hoping your memories provide you with some comfort. The only real downside of loving a dog is losing one.
But you know, I think in some way they're always with us, even when they're gone. I catch "glimpses" of my pups now and then, and have to remember how grateful I am to have known such unbelievable love and companionship. Hang in there, my friend. You two have a bond that will never be broken.
Must take PeeWee for a walk now, which hopefully will stop me from bawling like a baby. Much love to you and Charlie!

Hell is empty and all the devils are here. William Shakespeare
Haven't shared, but had a beagle run into my life in August. Literately running down the middle of my lane of the highway in a remote area. When I stopped she ran towards me and my arms instead of running away. A quick toss into the car got her out of harms way of traffic and coyotes. No luck in finding her owner so far and she is settled in with my crew. Your stories made the decision to keep her at my house vs the county kennel while looking for a previous owners much easier.
May you be surrounded with love when you think of Abby.

Still yourself, deep water can absorb many disturbances with minimal reaction.
--When the opening appears release yourself.
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
Saying goodbye to Chupe', to my steadfast companion of 15 years last fall was the hardest thing I've had to do in my 53 years. Dogs see us as we are and still love us unconditionally anyway. She'll always be in your heart.
You were both lucky to know such love. Our critters send you licks and I send you hugs. May warm memories fill your heart to send Abby across the Bridge.

I lost my last cat, Yinnie Bear, in May and I still have days where I cry on and off most of the day and miss him terribly. I thought I could make it through this and not cry but nope, not to be. You're in my thoughts and I wish you whatever small respite from the hurt that you can get.

This kind of thing is what I mean when invoking the phrase nihil umquam in oblivione est (nothing is ever forgotten) when a friend grieves for a loss, as you obviously grieve for the loss of Abby.
And it also is very obvious that Abby was a kind, gentle, loyal, loving and noble animal, most noble, loving and gentle even by dog standards which, as we both know, are very high standards indeed.
I grieve with you for your loss, as it is my loss too.

It is always so sad to lose a beloved friend. Our dawgs bring so much joy and unconditional love into our lives. But the downside is when we must say goodbye to them, which is way too soon. And it does not matter how long they have been with you. It is always way too soon. I know from losing my beloved Willie Bear last year after having him with me for over 15 years. It was still way too soon.
So, snoopy, my heart goes out to you today because I know your heart is broken. I hope you can cherish the wonderful memories that you and Abby had together. She was a beautiful dog and a beautiful soul.
Hugs to you, my friend.

for your words of comfort and support. Each one of you wrote something that soothed my broken heart. I knew that I could turn to this community who knew how much my dawgs mean to me and how much I will miss Abby. As you can see she was a beautiful dawg and she was just as beautiful on the inside.
I had known this day was coming and I am so grateful for the extra time I had with her. The poem that CB posted is exactly what happened. I knew I would be taking her in on Monday and Abby, Charlie and I had a great weekend at the cemetery where Abby and I have walked for over a decade. Must be close to 3,500 or more since we walk every day and twice during the summer. We walked a bit and then we just sat in the sun and the dawgs watched the world. After we got home she stopped eating and drinking and told me that it was time for her to go. This is the promise we all make when we bring our furry friends to live with us isn't it? The first photo is just after she came to live with us. My friends there found a spot for her in her favorite area that she would sneak off to every time I turned my back. "Abby you stay here....dammit Abby."
Charlie is sad and she is still looking for Abby when she gets home or in the morning. But we will be able to start doing the things we couldn't because of Abby's health. I took her hiking yesterday and I think that helped her mood. You can see how close she was to Abby in the picture of them. And Abby was always so gentle with her. I hope you can see that in the photo.
Thank you again. My heart is very full.

Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
We take these beings into our hearts knowing that one day they will leave us. It never gets any easier when that time comes.
My feline critters have known me in ways that no human ever will. Right now, my older girl is 19 1/2 years old. Her mom was a rescue cat, who turned out to be pregnant after I adopted her. She gave birth to her kittens
in my living room in the spring of 2000.
Precious beings.

you lost your Abby. What amazing beings dogs are. Their time with us can change us in a good way and I am just grateful for their company. I always hope that that feeling is mutual and it sounds as if Abby had a lovely life with you. That is the very best any of us can do. Peace to you and Charlie.

pup has flown beyond the stars and waits for you to join her. I lost 2 beloved Dobies in the space of 24 months. It has been close to a year later and I can finally feel that I am ready to adopt a new pup. All having multiple pups does is teach that each time you lose one, it will hurt like a SOB. That pain never lessens. Please take good care, Snoop dog. Rec'd!!
