September 30, 1938, was the date of the infamous Munich Agreement between Britain, France, Germany and Italy allowing Germany to annex the Sudetenland, previously part of Czechoslovakia, which was not party to the agreement. Ukrainian participation and the Ukrainian participants in this and other genocidal operations in Russia have generally been given a pass by the Western Allies and western historians because the victims, though Jews, were also goldurn no good dirty Russkies.

-

On September 30, 1943, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was dedicated by FDR. Created largely in response to the disastrous 1934 SS Morro Castle fire. -

geschreechen for the first cuppa java. Somewhere I have a CD entitled "Mozart for Morning Coffee", and I absotively guarantee that is not on it. Presumably it is high art, but I'm not quite high enough for it yet. Thanks all the same.

Thanks for reading and have a great one.

@enhydra lutris I love every note of that opera and can listen to it ad nauseam (according to mi familia). I took an offspring and friend to that opera once and suffice it to say, they were not as enthralled as I was. I guess we don't speak the same language. But I do love that aria, one of my faves. It is very scary though. Smile

Today is cleaning day for me, so I'm listening to music...going through your selections and really like Government Mule 'Soulshine'....nice.

@enhydra lutris , just look at this, it's plain goofy.... I think Mozart might have liked to poke fun at the "high art" crowd. For example:

And in honor of Rumi and the magic flute...

We are as the flute, and the music in us is from thee;
we are as the mountain and the echo in us is from thee.

We are as pieces of chess engaged in victory and defeat:
our victory and defeat is from thee, O thou whose qualities are comely!

Who are we, O Thou soul of our souls,
that we should remain in being beside thee?

We and our existences are really non-existence;
thou art the absolute Being which manifests the perishable.

We all are lions, but lions on a banner:
because of the wind they are rushing onward from moment to moment.

Their onward rush is visible, and the wind is unseen:
may that which is unseen not fail from us!

Our wind whereby we are moved and our being are of thy gift;
our whole existence is from thy bringing into being.

Masnavi Book I, 599-607

Have a good day everyone.

@Lookout
I certainly hope that they need neither "help" nor "arrested", but to see that "help" is the first sign presented. The question arises as to how one is to make the sign for arrested if one really has been arrested,, but perhaps they anticipate some old fashioned mass bust style "ok, you're under arrest, go climb into the wagon" type of actions by the constabulary. In any event, I do wish them well.

Have a good one.

When I was 12 years old, I heard a neighbor of mine play this song on his stereo. It was a summer evening and I was out in the yard listening to Elton John belt out the chorus. The feelings it conjured up in me were a curious longing of wanting to be an adult, living on my own, and being super cool.

When I was 13 years old, I bought my first album with my babysitting money; Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. And boy, did I feel cool listening to it Smile

Thanks for the OT. Wish me luck; today's my weigh in and I'm already spending the $300 in my mind.

I don't know how old I was but when I saw the movie "The Miracle Worker" on TV with Patty Duke, I went downstairs to our encyclopedias and taught myself the ABC's of sign language. I've never forgotten them!

Enjoy this fall Monday, everyone! Pleasantry

And would use it in front of my Mother when we didn't want her to understand what we were saying. Always have wanted to learn sigh language.

"The Miracle Worker" was one of those movies that left a huge impact on me. The relationship between Helen and her teacher touched me so, and the message wax relatable even though I did not suffer from the afflictions that Helen did. How many of us feel we are in the dark about so many things in life, and would not be if only for some guidance?

really should remedy that, but after watching a lot of folks proficient in it do it, I think that there's no way I'm getting anywhere with it now - might as well try to take up ballet.
