and now they’re coming after eco-socialist evo morales

How did I not see this coming?  This first Tweet is from the self-same fellow who also reTweets bellingcat (online crowd-sourced journalism.

  So now add #SOSBolivia, #SOSVZ, #SOSCuba, the whole list.  << Oh, and see the rally today in Florida at the link?  ‘R2PVenezuela.  Now that one I have seen coming for a long time…and thank you to all D "progressives" & Democratic Socialists who’ve criminalized Maduro’s ‘regime’ in the name of…some lying drivel or other…  Oh!  the ordinary people he’s murdering and starving; I remember now!

Sure, dude; the global south socialists know what USAID looks like: guns and barbed wire for the opposition on ‘aid’ convoys, who knows what on planes?  But just a coincidence in timing?

The video of his speech is on youtube, The People’s Summit’ at the Rio 2012 Sustainability Conference, as the Indigenous hadn’t been allowed into The Big Tent.  Other Indigenous documents were brought as well, Kari-Oka II, for one.   How tragic for the planet that their cries and analyses were totally ignored!  This is long, but I’ll quote the first sentence:

World People’s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth;  Building the People’s World Movement for Mother Earth’

People’s Agreement of Cochabamba  April 24, 2010 World People’s Conference on Climate Change  and the Rights of Mother Earth, April 22nd, Cochabamba, Bolivia

PEOPLE’S AGREEMENT

“Today, our Mother Earth is wounded and the future of humanity is in danger.”

But now Evo Morales = Jair Bolsonaro, and it was Evo’s fault and agro-policies that so much of the Bolivian part of the Amazon Rain Forest burned.  Telesur had covered some of the sites blaming him at the time, but most sound like this one from the Guardian: ‘Murderer of nature’: Evo Morales blamed as Bolivia battles devastating fires;  Firefighters try to control a fire near Charagua, close to the border with Paraguay; Furious locals say president is culpable over unprecedented destruction of wildlife’, Dan Collyns in La Chiquitanía, Sept 2, 2019.  The BBC, NPR, NYT, all featured the same.

The truth may be out there, but the world likely never hear it.  Maybe he really has turned into a neo-liberal slash-and-burn oligarchical puerco.  But I admit I tend to believe his side of the story, including in terms of what resources he’d mobilized, and early videos from Reuters, et. al. showing him donning No-Mex to help fight the fires.  Yeah, a publicity photo-op for certain, but that’s okay.

UN Recognizes Bolivia’s Efforts in Combating Amazon Fires’, August 27, 2019, telesur english

“Bolivia has significantly stepped up efforts to combat fires that have affected the country, especially in the tri border area between Brazil and Paraguay.

On Sunday, Morales announced that the government had mobilized “2,000 soldiers and 450 police firefighters who along with volunteers are supported by 4 helicopters, three planes and the Supertanker who are working to control the fire. We will continue to reinforce these operations”

Then on Monday, it was announced that the number of those mobilized against the fire had gone up to 4000. This includes firefighters, soldiers, police, volunteers and veterinarians to treat displaced animals.

The government has also set out plans to purchase the ‘supertanker’ that they are currently leasing. The ‘Supertanker’ is a Boeing 747, thought to be the world’s largest air tanker, capable of carrying 150,000 litres of water, equivalent to around 100 regular air tankers.”

Apparently there have been moves afoot to tank support for Evo before the next election:

Looks like Bolivia’s about ready for a joint R2P project, or at least a VZ Juan Guaido/Leopold Lopez/CIA golpista insurrection, doesn’t it?

My apologies for the long white spaces; embedding Tweets at the Café and c99% by way of html code are incredibly different. I've hunted in the code for way to exterminate the white (pun intended) until my eyes are crossed, and I need time to rest them for now.)

stealing the language of good causes.

Apparently it works really well because most people can't tell the difference between a fake movement and a real one.

but then these were, yanno, brown Indigenous folks from south america, and the world listens to White Folks. i always loved the fact that side by side photos of maduro supporters were brown, while guaido's golpistas were pretty darned pale.

but then those created these worthy documents indicted capitalism (and its cousin rampant consumerism) right at the top. and the amount they knew about about green capitalism, transgenic crops, factory ag and false solutions had sincerely shocked me in 2012.

think if the world had been listening to them in 2010!

thanks for reading and commenting well, miz signal.

Amazon burning at record rates.

Multiple news outlets are reporting that Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (INPE) reported a record 72,843 fires this year, an 80 percent increase from last year. More than 9,000 of those fires have been spotted in the past week.

Can you just imagine that Evo sent battalions of Bolivian arsonists to 9000 locations to start the blazes. Wow. That's industriousness, on a large scale.

Of course we know that all forest fires are always man-made. It has been rumored that Caymans and Crocodiles have been seen loitering on the banks of the Amazon playing with matches.

Thanks again for the essay. The long pauses in your manuscript gave my addled brain time to, shall we say, digest the contents.

NG's behind a paywall for me. i did lazily try to find some current satellite data on the fires in bolvia, though. but one busy man, although they blame his slash-and-burn agricultural policy, so there's that. but his critics took off like a forest a-fire, and now he's: the evil jair bolsonaro.

i even tried (and failed) to find bolivian news sites in english, but nope. damn those caymans and crocs! did evo pay them per fire? (i did manage to erase some of those white spaces, glad they were there when you'd read, though.) ; )

the People’s Agreement of Cochabamba which AOC and markey should have seen, or at least mirrored:

'We confront the terminal crisis of a civilizing model that is patriarchal and based on the submission and destruction of human beings and nature that accelerated since the industrial revolution.

The capitalist system has imposed on us a logic of competition, progress and limitless growth. This regime of production and consumption seeks profit without limits, separating human beings from nature and imposing a logic of domination upon nature, transforming everything into commodities: water, earth, the human genome, ancestral cultures, biodiversity, justice, ethics, the rights of peoples, and life itself.

Under capitalism, Mother Earth is converted into a source of raw materials, and human beings into consumers and a means of production, into people that are seen as valuable only for what they own, and not for what they are.

Capitalism requires a powerful military industry for its processes of accumulation and imposition of control over territories and natural resources, suppressing the resistance of the peoples. It is an imperialist system of colonization of the planet.

Humanity confronts a great dilemma: to continue on the path of capitalism, depredation, and death, or to choose the path of harmony with nature and respect for life.

It is imperative that we forge a new system that restores harmony with nature and among human beings. And in order for there to be balance with nature, there must first be equity among human beings. We propose to the peoples of the world the recovery, revalorization, and strengthening of the knowledge, wisdom, and ancestral practices of Indigenous Peoples, which are affirmed in the thought and practices of “Living Well,” recognizing Mother Earth as a living being with which we have an indivisible, interdependent, complementary and spiritual relationship. To face climate change, we must recognize Mother Earth as the source of life and forge a new system based on the principles of:
•harmony and balance among all and with all things;
•complementarity, solidarity, and equality;
•collective well-being and the satisfaction of the basic necessities of all;
•people in harmony with nature;
•recognition of human beings for what they are, not what they own;
•elimination of all forms of colonialism, imperialism and interventionism;
•peace among the peoples and with Mother Earth;

The model we support is not a model of limitless and destructive development. All countries need to produce the goods and services necessary to satisfy the fundamental needs of their populations, but by no means can they continue to follow the path of development that has led the richest countries to have an ecological footprint five times bigger than what the planet is able to support. Currently, the regenerative capacity of the planet has been already exceeded by more than 30 percent. If this pace of over-exploitation of our Mother Earth continues, we will need two planets by the year 2030. In an interdependent system in which human beings are only one component, it is not possible to recognize rights only to the human part without provoking an imbalance in the system as a whole. To guarantee human rights and to restore harmony with nature, it is necessary to effectively recognize and apply the rights of Mother Earth. For this purpose, we propose the attached project for the Universal Declaration on the Rights of Mother Earth, in which it’s recorded that:
•The right to live and to exist;
•The right to be respected;
•The right to regenerate its bio-capacity and to continue it’s vital cycles and processes free of human alteration;
•The right to maintain their identity and integrity as differentiated beings, self-regulated and interrelated;
•The right to water as the source of life;
•The right to clean air;
•The right to comprehensive health;
•The right to be free of contamination and pollution, free of toxic and radioactive waste;
•The right to be free of alterations or modifications of it’s genetic structure in a manner that threatens it’s integrity or vital and healthy functioning;
•The right to prompt and full restoration for violations to the rights acknowledged in this Declaration caused by human activities."

we keep reading on signs: 'System change, not Climate Change', but in the end they don't mention changing to socialism, not capitalism.

and what in the world is 'declaring a Climate Emergency', anyway? the possibilities of the wider meaning of that phrase gives me the shivers.

‘Declaration of the Network in Defense of Humanity: Save the Amazon! Save the Planet!’, Sept. 19, 2019

a few snippets:

‘Bolsonaro has been promoting the deforestation of the Amazon, the weakening of all control and oversight over companies, and the reduction of funds for the protection and conservation of the region. The persecution of indigenous and peasant leaders and communities who defend their rights and their territories has become a common practice. These peoples, with their ancient cultures, cosmovisions and knowledge, are the ones who have best defended -and in many cases have guaranteed it at the price of their lives- the conservation of this great region as the largest reservoir of biodiversity on the planet, whose loss or deterioration will imply irreversible damage to the already precarious health of ecosystems at a global level.
.............................................
It is necessary to remember that the “help” of other nations of imperial bias in the face of similar disasters has historically been used as a pretext for intervention, destabilization and looting, in which the great powers have always had the most diverse tools of domination and, of course, the constant manipulation of public opinion. We must defend the principle that if there is a real will to help, it must be channelled through States and international bodies with full respect for sovereignty.
.............................................
We support, in contrast, the actions promoted by the government of the President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Evo Morales Ayma, who has demonstrated a spirit of unity in adversity, and true concern to confront the fire not only in his country, but also in the region, and we also applaud the call made by his government and that of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for regional actions to be taken to address the emergency quickly and effectively.

good night. buffy said it right.

Bolivian president Evo Morales sees a lot to like in Bernie Sanders' candidacy

The Bolivian president, Evo Morales, has said that an unexpected meeting at the Vatican with US presidential contender Bernie Sanders had demonstrated a “thirst for a different kind of democracy” in the US.

“I don’t want to meddle in the domestic affairs of the United States, but what a strange coincidence that on certain important issues such as democracy, for example, there should be such overlap between us and some pre-candidates in the US,” said Morales during a press briefing at the UN in New York on Thursday.

The firebrand leftist, known as an outspoken critic of US influence of Latin America, added that Sanders’ critique of wealthy donors’ outsized influence in the US squared with his own skeptical view of its democracy.

“It seems interesting that if we have a candidate who is saying publicly that here in the United States the millionaires are the ones who buy the elections, that that is a truth, then that makes it abundantly clear that free market policies affect politics negatively,” he said.

i've finally discovered what 'declaring a climate emergency' seems to mean in sweden. but oy, i'd read a bit here and there about the exploitation of little greta, one i've long since lost before i'd finished it from a journalist in norway, but this...oh, my. some of it little greta and her parents didn't know, some her parents had claimed not to know, etc., but what a seamy narrative it is.

a few outtakes:

'In December 2018, We Have No Time and Global Challenge launched the Club of Rome’s latest vision of apocalypse, the Climate Emergency Plan. Greta, Rentzhog told me, was invited to the launch event, but was unable to attend as she was already booked to deliver a TED Talk.

The Climate Emergency Plan’s talking points are Greta’s talking points. “Around the year 2030, in ten years, 250 days, and ten hours,” the Scandinavian Cassandra told British parliamentarians, “we will be in a position where we set off an irreversible chain reaction beyond human control that will most likely lead to the end of our civilisation as we know it.” The only way to save ourselves is to follow the Climate Emergency Plan, and instantly green the global energy business through massive government investment and emergency legislation. Wijkman of the Club of Rome sees Greta as vital to pushing the “climate emergency” strategy on Europe’s political class.
....................................................
In January, Rentzhog and We Have No Time used Greta’s face and story in promotional materials for a share issue for a new venture. Rentzhog claimed that the family knew, but Greta and her parents parents insisted that they did not. They announced that their association with Rentzhog was over—a curious statement, considering that Svante claims they had never associated with him in the first place. Greta’s new press agent, Daniel Donner, works from the office of a Brussels lobby group, the European Climate Foundation. Still, We Don’t Have Time retweet Greta as if nothing has changed. In a way, nothing has.

Whatever Greta or her parents know or think, her eco-mob increases the likelihood of legislation and investment that will make colossal profits for people like Global Challenge, We Don’t Have Time and Sustainable Energy Angels. For Sweden’s energy titans, saving the planet means government contracts to print the green stuff. Green energy lobbyists use populist scare tactics and a children’s crusade to bypass elected representatives, but their goal is technocracy not democracy, profit not redistribution. Greta, a child of woke capitalism, is being used to ease the transition to green corporatism.'

that's just one of plans to profit from Green Capitalism (on twitter) 'we mean business'; cargill corporation, lol?
