"Impeachment is a waste of time!"

Nancy on impeaching Trump:

What did Nancy do to stop the tax bill from passing?

My question is why now? The whistleblower hasn't spoken to congress yet nor has Trump released the transcripts. Could it be because Trump is not going to war with Iran and this is a way to push him? If so look for a false flag event soon. Just a hunch..

Even if they succeed. And why should we think they will? Do they have enough Bush Republicans willing to impeach a Republican president?

I dunno, maybe they do; after all, impeaching him might give us Pence. Then again, impeachment doesn't necessarily mean the President's going anywhere. See Bill Clinton.

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal remove him. All of us including Nancy knows this. Both parties however will get to avoid talking about anything at all that actually matters. Bonus: a heightening of partisan tensions among the populace.

I want an Amendment that lets the people impeach anyone in the three branches. I'd start with 90% of Congress.

The Democrats are gambling that they can vilify Trump convincingly enough to cause him to lose the election. Maybe they can. I hope so. That would eliminate Trump and Pence for good.

But it's a dumbass charge filled with shocking hypocrisies that the public cannot miss. If we are very lucky, Americans will wake from their stupor of denial and finally see the complete corruption that is coursing though the veins of their government.

Maybe they've just come to the conclusion that Biden is a liability. Since it seems that the inquiry was to be limited to Trump's dealings with the Ukrainian President, it was a matter of throwing Biden to Trump on a silver platter as a sacrificial lamb, letting the orange one do the butchery.

Trump has already gleefully taken on the task with fervor, ordering the release of the transcripts Nancy thought he'd keep tucked away and releasing this videeo attacking Biden for doing the same shit he's accused of doing:

Looks like Warren is their annointed one now. Anything to screw Bernie. And she'll lose to Trump and they can use it as an excuse to never run a "progressive" again. How does Pence-Cruz 2024 sound?

@Wally It would simply be uncouth to ask Biden to step down because he's clearly losing it. And it is "his turn" so we can't expect him to do the right thing pass up his devine right. So, let's assume that Obama telling him "Joe, you don't have to do this" was a bit of a warning. The Dems can't be so clueless as to think Trump wouldn't throw Biden under the bus, right? It's hard for me to believe that's a feature, not a bug, even if the Dems tiptoe around Biden when talking about it.

With Biden out of the way, they can clear the lane for Warren, who seems to be the anointed one, at this point anyway. Warren is a heads they win, tails we lose prospect because she won't fundamentally change things, if elected and, as you note, they can play the "we nominated a progressive and she failed" card if not.

Of course, I don't think Warren will win. Impeachment is a political game and they're not going to remove Trump from office as things stand. I read yesterday he has an 80% approval rate among Republicans. That's what the Dems have to beat. Aside from the fact that Trump will destroy Warren in debates (the DNA test was a tell that she can't resist taking his bait), I don't see wonky, professorial Warren connecting with voters in a match-up vs. Trump.

But who knows? It all could amount to nothing as it usually does. Just seems like a very peculiar time to activate that dry, dry powder.

DOJ Moves To Block Alleged Drone Whistleblower's Defense In Espionage Act Case

Prosecutors add, “Any attempt to inject a necessity, whistleblower, or similar motive for the defendant’s conduct is irrelevant.”

Attorneys for Hale counter with the argument that the legislative history of the Espionage Act was “absolutely clear.” It was drafted with the “confidence that it would never be used to criminalize actions undertaken to inform the American public.”

And he is certainly getting treated different from how Chelsea Manning was and is being treated. As well as Julian Assange. Now why would this be?

Again it's the f'cking hypocrisy!

OBSTRUCTION OF WHISTLEBLOWER COMPLAINT LEADS TO PELOSI ANNOUNCING TRUMP IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY

It remains unknown what exactly a United States intelligence employee disclosed, but the inspector general for the “intelligence community” determined that the employee’s complaint—submitted on August 19—involved a matter of “urgent concern.”

“Urgent concern” is defined as a “serious or flagrant problem, abuse, violation of the law or executive order, or deficiency related to the funding, administration, or operation” that falls under the authority of the Director of National Intelligence. It likely involves classified information.

....
Maguire even consulted with officials at the Justice Department about the complaint. That likely creates a chilling effect because the FBI may take the step of investigating the whistleblower. It happened in the cases of the NSA Four—Thomas Drake, Bill Binney, Kirk Wiebe, Ed Loomis—who complained to an inspector general about matters of “urgent concern” related to surveillance collection.

The whistleblower complaint may not be the proverbial smoking gun, but it is noteworthy that obstruction of a whistleblower complaint is what spurred action by Democrats.

For eight years under President Barack Obama, the Justice Department pursued more prosecutions of whistleblowers under the Espionage Act than all previous presidential administrations combined.

It will be interesting to see how this case is handled. The espionage act was designed to only be used for when spies gave away our national security information not to go after people who expose our dirty secrets. Obama weaponized the act to go after journalists which opened the door for Trump to go after Assange. Just more damage from the "best president."

Michael Tracey has an argument that impeachment will help Warren. See M Tracey on youtube. Could help Biden as like Hillary, he is the saintly victim of Trump/Putin as this kangaroo court will become Russia 2.0. I think Tracey is right as this will not help Sanders.

But for the next number of months going into early next year, impeachment and Trump will suck the oxygen out of the room. Bernie who? I see a repeat of 2016 where main stream media was all Trump all the time ($$$). Maddow as one tweeter noted is mumbling "ka ching".

My gut says impeachment may help Trump more than the democrats who will be seen through the faces of Schiff, Nadler, and Pelosi--a winning team if ever I saw one.

for years now. Posturing, threatening, but "keeping their powder dry", to borrow the expression from Pelosi. So why now?

It's obviously just a big piece of political theater, designed to distract the public so we don't think too deeply about something they don't want us to look at.

What's the issue that triggered this now? Yep. One of their chosen candidates, Joe Biden, is being threatened with public disclosure of his corrupt misdealings while VP.

I can't help but see a parallel with what the Dems did in 2016, when they created Russiagate to distract and divert attention from the DNC's rigging of the primary for Hillary. Their misdeeds were clearly shown in the various DNC and Podesta emails that were leaked and hacked and published by Wikileaks.

What did the Dems and their corporate media minions do? "Russia stole the DNC's emails and gave them to Wikileaks!Trump used the hacked emails to smear Hillary. Putin colluded with Trump. Collusion! Assange is responsible for Trump being POTUS! Anyone who says any different is a Russian troll. And it's illegal for you American citizens to read Wikileaks, so we'll read it and tell you what you need to know."

(That last bit courtesy of CNN's Chris Cuomo.)

What got lost in all of that tomfoolery was the actual contents of the leaked/hacked emails, which clearly showed the DNC being crooks.

Do you think that's what the Dems are trying to do again now? Trying to point away from what Biden actually did, and reframe the discussion so the public is talking about "who said those things about Biden".

And/or maybe they think if we get excited about impeachment and caught up in that drama, we'll forget about Medicare4All and Bernie and Tulsi and all of the other things the corporate oligarchy doesn't want.

"We're impeaching Trump! NOW will you VoteBlueNoMatterWho"?

Bingo. That is the question. Bush et all and Obama et all got away with blatant war crimes and crimes against humanity and Nancy blew her gasket when she was asked if she would bring impeachment against Bush. Hopefully people were able to view the video.

But I am wondering if Trump is playing along with this farce? He has blocked the house on so many issues already including his tax returns and letting people testify, but he had Rudy out on the media circus saying things that looked like yes Trump did something bad and now Trump has just willingly released the transcript? No court order to do so? Please..... why would he just fold on that, but not on the other issues?

This is just Russia gate 20.0 and is being used as a distraction. When people were focusing on kids being held in detention centers some new scandal came up and blew that off the news. Rinse and repeat. WHat is this a distraction from? As I said last week the Russian spy who came in from the cold story got no traction so now we have this.

were looming as the election campaign unfolded. So yes, I think what you say here is the main thing happening, even more important than Iran, as an issue for the military industrial complex. As you said:

Do you think that's what the Dems are trying to do again now? Trying to point away from what Biden actually did, and reframe the discussion so the public is talking about "who said those things about Biden".

Exactly, and as snoopydawg and others have pointed out, this has been the fallback for the DNC. When evidence of their crimes becomes public, as the video of Biden's strong-arming Ukraine inevitably would, their fallback behavior is to scream that someone is attacking our democracy and interfering with an election.

It's as if showing that video of Biden bragging about his criminal act was fine all of last year and before. But now that he's a candidate for president, it's not fair. It's a crime. Never mind that the DNC hired foreign spooks to write a document claiming prostitutes pee-ed on Trump which proved he was an agent of a foreign power. That's fair because it's false. It's all fun and games. But truth? Truth in the form of Biden saying it to the Council on Foreign Relations, on the record, on video? That's not fair.

Essentially what they are saying is that the crimes our government officials commit in bribing other governments and causing war, which is what happened in Ukraine, killing 14,000 innocent people, men, women, children, and babies, are unmentionable in an election campaign. People integrally involved in such crime are allowed to run for president and shall not be held accountable for their past crimes. You can't even mention it.

Speaking of mentioning it, Biden is mentioned near the end of this conversation as being willing to make this travesty work in Ukraine:

ByeDone wouldn't have been there if he and MyBoss hadn't done their coup which resulted in lots of people dead at the Maiden Square massacre that McCain helped along. As I said in other essay here no one mentions the 10,000 Russians that the Ukraine forces have killed. No its just always bad Russia Russia..... Russia.

Less than two months later, Nuland was caught discussing the composition of a future Ukrainian government on the phone with US ambassador to Kiev to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt. In addition to deciding which of the protest leaders and figureheads ought to be prime minister, the conversation contained some unsavory language about the EU, an admission from Pyatt that “somebody with an international personality” should come and “help to midwife this thing,” and Nuland bringing up how “Biden’s willing” to come in and praise whoever they decide to anoint.

Between the admission about funding, the photographic evidence of Nuland and other US officials joining the protests and the intercepted conversation, it is impossible to deny that the Obama administration was in the driver’s seat of what would become a violent coup just days after the Nuland-Pyatt chat.

It ought to be clear by now that those billions in “assistance” and the two rounds of election meddling never were about helping the actual people of Ukraine, but about turning that country into an armed camp against their Russian neighbor, and maybe making some cash on the side in the process.

From a Common Dreams comment.

I’m happy Democrats finally found a whistleblower they don’t want to imprison! Congratulations! I mean, you’d think you were just adapting your standards of leaking to whatever gave you a political advantage. Kinda like Trump’s phone call! Naw too cynical, right?

In any event, please impeach this bozo. And then release all the other whistleblowers who exposed far more illegal behavior than this while you’re at it.

Oh, and when you’re done, perhaps continue the investigation into Hunter Biden’s miraculous golden parachute gig with a coup government that took power illegally. I mean, it’s like the DNC leaks. Sure, the leaks are an issue. But the stuff that was leaked kinda was, too! So maybe find that out while you’re at it and clean the whole frigging house!

Speaker of the House and California Rep. Nancy Pelosi has warned Rep. Jerry Nadler to stop his impeachment nonsense.

The warning to the head of the House Judiciary came in a closed door meeting and Rep. Pelosi made her stance known, Politico reported.

“Pelosi criticized the panel’s handling of impeachment in harsh terms, complaining committee aides have advanced the push for ousting President Donald Trump far beyond where the House Democratic Caucus stands.

“Democrats simply don’t have the votes on the floor to impeach Trump, Pelosi said,” Politico said in its report of the meeting.

“And you can feel free to leak this,” she said to those in the room, but her office has declined to comment on the meeting.

yes to all who note 'deflection from actually important issues', as just imagine how many news cycles all this 'inquiry' can take up.

but also: russia-gate's swirling down the drain, as is the D team's #MeToo movement. unless, of course, the durham/barr investigation of the spooks goes anywhere other than more whitewash on Aunt Polly's fence.

hope this is redundant, but patrick martin at wsws had a few choice things to say about all this, including:

'The whistleblower complaint was accepted as “credible” and “urgent” by Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson, a Trump appointee from the ranks of career federal prosecutors. Atkinson sought to inform Congress of the complaint, as required by law, but he was blocked by his boss, acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire, who consulted with the Justice Department and the White House.

The fact of the complaint—but not its actual text—was leaked to the press and reported to Congress, touching off a series of media reports documenting Trump’s blatant effort to use American military aid as a lever to assist his own reelection campaign. Trump ordered $391 million in aid to Ukraine held up while he was pressuring Zelensky to reopen a corruption investigation against a gas oligarch in Ukraine who placed Hunter Biden on the board of his company while Joe Biden was US vice president.
.........................
The tipping point was apparently reached on Monday evening when seven freshmen Democratic representatives, all of them veterans of the military-intelligence apparatus, issued a joint demand for impeachment in the form of an op-ed column published by the Washington Post.

The seven include six representatives from the group the World Socialist Web Site has labelled the “CIA Democrats.” Two of them are actual ex-CIA agents, Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia. Four are former military officers: Elaine Luria of Virginia, Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey, Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania and Jason Crow of Colorado.

The statement from the seven identifies them as “veterans of the military and of the nation’s defense and intelligence agencies” concerned by “unprecedented allegations against President Trump.” The statement continues: “To uphold and defend our Constitution, Congress must determine whether the president was indeed willing to use his power and withhold security assistance funds to persuade a foreign country to assist him in an upcoming election. If these allegations are true, we believe these actions represent an impeachable offense.”

The seven were joined by former CIA Director John Brennan—the overseer of widespread torture and illegal spying under Bush and Obama—who cited their statement in a cable television interview Tuesday and joined them in calling for Trump’s impeachment.

plus the awesome hypocrisy factor:

'The events in Ukraine actually demonstrate a considerable degree of agreement between the rival factions in the ruling elite. Both support the US government bullying weaker countries, with Biden traveling to Ukraine in 2016 to threaten the withholding of $1 billion in US aid, and Trump actually withholding a lesser sum this year. Both endorse arming the fascist-backed government in Kiev against Ukrainian workers and against Russia, an ongoing policy of American imperialism. And both accept relatives of top US leaders cashing in on their family connections, as Hunter Biden did in Ukraine and China and the Trump family now does globally.'

i never have been able to find the video of biden's bragging about that again, bit it was choice. is martin guessin' this is the 'whistleblower'? i'd nominate lyin' brennan. ; )

'Trump fired his national security advisor John Bolton September 10, just as the crisis over the Ukraine whistleblower was beginning to erupt. Bolton had been a vociferous proponent of war with Iran and opposed any slackening of US support to the regime in Kiev.'

They wouldn't even hold a trial.

Waste of time. But it will give the Democrats something to do while not addressing the economic problems of our country.

Anything but a started-by-the-House-ended-by-the-Senate outcome is MSM fantasy. But that worked so well for the GOP against President Bubba.

There must be a faction in the professional class running That Party who have convinced themselves that there are some sort of unicorn Republicans who can be peeled off.

That ship sailed long ago. All that this will do is solidify a siege mentality and make it more difficult for progressive challengers in parts of the country where they might otherwise persuade many.

Incumbent Democrats are probably okay with keeping a lot of those GOP folks around since they like cutting bipartisan deals with them so much.

i'd seen the tweeted blurry pages at RT, went to hunt it down, and got waylaid by these w/ no pdf links):

White House releases transcript of Trump call with Ukrainian president
washingotn examiner, September 25, 2019

followed by:

Pelosi: Trump call with Ukraine president a 'shakedown', Susan Ferrechio, September 25, 2019, also examiner

We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.

LMAO Nancy. You could have said that when Hillary and the DNC rigged the primary or said it now as they are doing it again. But no..Nancy declares that he broke the law even before any proof has been proof.

Or Trump's corruption was worse than Bush's corruption as stated in the tweet, but this is the hill she is willing to die on.

There are many legitimate things Nancy could try to impeach him for and that she isn't shows how she and her fellow congress rats are totally fine with what he is doing.

But what do I know, I'm one of those little insects almost too small to see.

I try hard not to think about those people much because it makes me really pissed off how they appropriated a term from people who were actually risking their lives fighting Nazis. How disrespectful can you get.

Legolas ggersh says. The only one they didn't get to vote for was the tax bill, but only because the republicans didn't need their votes. But the republicans screwed up a lot of things in and and so of course they need democrats to help them fix it.
"Trump is the most dangerous president of our lifetimes!" But then they voted to give Trump more power to spy on us. Go figure. But people still think that democrats are resisting Trump.

If this is the argument:

We justifiably hate Russia and fear them because they rigged our elections and put Trump in

How in the name of all that's holy does this:

So we'll give Trump, who is supposedly a Putin puppet, 80 billion more simoleans to spend on military affairs

follow from that!

For Christ's sake, I'm used to irrationality, but this is descending to the level of gibberish!

none of this makes logical sense, as they'll be handing Trumpster the presidency again... they try to impeach him for real. #Victimhood! "snatching defeat out of the jaws of..."
as a side note, i was just checking in with the election stalemate in israel, and saw a headline noting that 'american jews support trump's impeachment'.

bernhard at MoA says that zelenzkiy didn't know until a month after the phone call that DT was withholding those millions of military aid.
