Friday Night Photos - Ecuadoran Restaurant edition

Off shortly to said restaurant, but here's something to ponder, as I eat Ecuadoran favourites.

Enjoy your Ecuadoran food. It's fish and chips for me tonight. Okay, so it's tuna fish and potato chips, but hey, that's still fish and chips.

Speaking of food

Not all this "who are you, and how did you get in here?" nonsense.

But I have had home made Belizan and Colombian.
The Belizan was sans the evil looking orange oil in the bottle with a picture of a habenero.

I always said I would try anything. Then I had Indian. Good but incredibly hot. Hotter than Thai. Then Pakistani. Not to disparage anyone ,most certainly not the young Pakistani-American co-worker who took us there, but it was a bridge too far. The other guys seemed to like it though. I did prefer Indian, but with one tenth the pepper.
Another co-worker (named Reza) took us to Reza's Restaurant (no relation, half of Iran seems to be named Reza, apparently the Persian version of Nguyen. I quite liked it, but this is the third cuisine that claims Baklava and I got black looks for calling the Persian Tea, Russian Tea and for calling Shish Kabob, Turkish. We went there often. The Restaurant was close by and written up in Chicago Magazine.

@The Voice In the Wilderness Depends on the restaurant. The first time I had curry was in England, of all places. I've eaten at many Indian restaurants since, but one my husband and I went to by the twin cities, their "mild" was more than even I could handle, and I can tolerate heat more than my husband. Salt Lake City has some good Indian places, surprisingly. Give it another try!

This shit is bananas.

@Daenerys
Our UK born workers told us that in the UK, Indian restaurants are as prevalent as Chinese are in the USA. Reminds me of the one prejudice of my London born boss. One day he was at the client site, was thirsty but didn't want hot coffee or soda. I offered a bottle of Snapple iced tea that I had brought from home.
"Iced tea/" incredulously then examining the bottle. "Oh, I see, some sort of American teas-like product!" He didn't take it. Watch it Mike, the Revolution started over tea!

He really was a Liberal minded person, a great guy and a swell boss, the best I ever had. But take care talking to an Englishman about Tea. Apparently, it's sacred.

I upload the target image to the website.

Then select a style image, something I upload or find on the site.

There are only a few settings that can change how the style image is applied to the target. It's just trial and error to find the right images and settings. The site might start offering AI generated target images soon...

is my fav. Such interesting subjects and always with beautiful detail.
I long to go out and buy a nice digital camera but they are so expensive.
I'll have to settle with my Samsung smartphone.
I will try a couple here though.

Assorted wildflowers we picked up in packets from Western US. We were afraid they were to old as we had collected them over the years in our travels. We just threw them in front of the kitchen and hoped for the best.

But these aren't "wildflowers" - they are zinnias, strong growers and in the best Mexican colors.

@earthling1 If a new camera is to expensive you might want to look into buying a used camera. I bought most of my camera equipment used.
Here's 3 very reputable dealers.

I hear the new 5G Huawei w/ the Leica dual camera system is light years ahead of all other smartphones.
But w/Trump and his sanctions the issue of freezing temps and Hades becomes a problem.
Was really needing a new smartphone.
That said, I may just visit one of those sites and ck it out.
Thanks again for the links.

It’s a pizzeria but it’s in Cuenca, Ecuador. My friend opened it about three months ago. He is one of thousands who have returned from the US to open businesses in their homeland. A New York pizzeria in Ecuador. Imagine. Alex spent 20 years in the US. He returned with enough money to build and equip a decent restaurant and survive building a business out of nothing. He’s close to our house so he gets our business when I don’t want to cook or my wife wants fresh handmade pizza.

One of the first things we had on our exploratory trip here was aji with thin sliced and fried white carrot slices. Chips and salsa if you will. Yucca prepared similarly is more common. Aji is a salsa made with tomato de arbol, tree tomatoes, garlic, thinly sliced onion bits, pepper bits, and sometimes something spicy. It varies in every restaurant and region but is everywhere. It’s really tasty in every variety.

Meats are chicken and pork for the most part with some beef. Beef is commonly cooked as a seco, braised with spices. It’s density (due to being grass fed) makes this a good cooking method. Seco de pollo is everywhere too. The pork is from a roasted whole pig, chancha, and chunks of skin. I didn’t care for the skin at first due to being rather crunchy and greasy but is good done right. The grill culture isn’t as well developed as someplace like Argentina but is common. Seafood is plentiful and the trucha, trout, from the Cajas mountain lakes, streams, and fish farms is great.

Every kind of vegetable and fruit is readily available. The common sides for seco or chancha are mote (hominy), rice seasoned and plain, and/or potatoes. The potato hockey pucks (the name escapes meat the moment) are awesome. With 400 varieties of the 500+ known varieties available it can be potatoes almost any way but they love fries. Me too! Salads are a normal inclusion as is a sweet cake, pastry, custard, or fruit.

Regardless of what or how it is cooked the food here is inexpensive, high quality, and plentiful. A set lunch of meat, rice or potato, salad, soup, bread, and a small desert with a choice of fruit juices is $2.50 to $5.00. Breakfast is about the same and dinner is a bit more unless you like international dishes and/or high end restaurants. (The best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to outside India or London is right here in el Centro. It’s a favorite lunch spot.) There is always plenty to too much food. It’s always entertaining to watch a 5’ tall 100# young lady eat as much as an NFL lineman.

I don’t know what an Ecuadorian restaurant in the states serves but I’d enjoy it if it’s even close to Cuenca.
