El Grito Mexican Independence Day Celebration '18
-

-

On this day in history:

-

On September 16, 1810, in Dolores Nuevo España (now Doloes HIdalgo, Mexico) at about 2:30 am, Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla had the bell of the local parish church rung, gathered the populace and delivered the pronunciamento that triggered the Mexicn War of Independence from Spain. Though the exact text of the pronunciamento is unknown, its purpose and effect were revolutionary, and the revolution was on. This pronunciamento is known as el Grito de Dolores. It was not s quick revolution, taking roughly a decade, but, in the end, Mexico was free from Spain. Don Hidalgo is treated as the father of his country, The Grito has come to symbolize Mexican independence which is celebrated on September 16,
.

-

In 1893, wannabe settlers, speculators, grifters, boomers and others made Oaklahoma's fourth and largest land run to grab up lands in the Cherokee Outlet.

-

In 1959 the world's first successful copier, the Xerox 914, was introduced. We could've ended the cold war and destroyed the Soviet Union quite inexpensively had we simply thught to ship thusands of these units, for free, to Russia and all of the other soviet states, but it never did occur to us..

-

In 1982, Sabra and Shatila massacre was committed. Roughly 3,500 Palestinian and Lebanese civilians were slaughtered by Phalangist militiamen with the knowledge and tacit approval of the IDF.

-

In 1987, the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed. As a result, it is projected that the hole in the ozone layer above Antarctica will be restored to its 1980 condition by at least 2070. If anybody is still here at that time, will they please check it to see. Thanks.

-

In 1992, Manuel Noriega, a CIA asset who had been on the CIA payroll off and on was convicted and sentenced to 40 years for activities conducted entirely within his own country. This was a wrning to the entire world that the US considered that it could pass laws in the US that would apply toi and be enforceable against foreign persons for actions within their own country that were legal or undetected witghin their own country. The rest of the world ignored the implications of this to their detriment.

-

In 2007, mercenaries employed by the US via their direct employer, Blackwater Worldwide, shot and killed 17 Iraqi civilians without provocation in Nisour Square, Baghdad. This was treated as a big deal and some of the mercenaries were eventually tried by the US, even though our military had been slaughtering great numbers of Iraqi civilians pretty continuously since March 2003. IT is suspected that the trial of these persons, like the continuing persecution of Chelsea Manning was to deflect attention from the fact that the Bush regime was guilty of war crimes from the top down.

1. An unstable, poisonous allotrope of oxygen, O3, that is formed naturally in the ozone layer from atmospheric oxygen by electric discharge or exposure to ultraviolet radiation, also produced in the lower atmosphere by the photochemical reaction of certain pollutants. It is a highly reactive oxidizing agent used to deodorize air, purify water, and treat industrial wastes.
2. Informal Fresh, pure air.

I guess this isn't sold in the handy household spray can version?

manufacture out own and then release it into the upper atmosphere over the antarctic. Knowing no arctic ants, I find this a difficult task.

Right. Where the hell are you? Same here. Raining since early morning and when I left at 6a it was already in the 70s. Not so very normal. Glad to have the rain though. Every little bit helps keep the fire danger down.

Have a good camping outing...

we just returned and are now trying to figure out where else to go for 2 or 3 days on a moment's notice. My wife has a judy duty notice, so can't plan anything with certainty until the hammer drops.

Thanks for the OT and the information about El Grito de Dolores. I would elaborate my thoughts about Hidalgo's resistance to Spain but the less said about "revolution" the better, so it seems.

Beautiful day here in Southern California. The heat broke last night and it's a cool 78 degrees and sunny. Spent some time this morning in the garden. Perfect weather for weeding and pruning and arranging the woodland creatures I purchased to decorate my garden. The Gnome seems happy, as do the rabbits and the birds. But Zoe, my cat, who is not one of the woodland creatures I purchased, seems perplexed by the two piglets I placed under her fig tree.

Hope it warms up on your camping trip. Would love it if you posted some pics Smile

All my best...

Sure miss Mary Travers. Grew up with a mad crush on her.
We have rain up here in the PNW too. Pressure washed my house last week in prep for new paint. Wont stop raining though. Hope I don't have to wait til spring.
Hope you find a place to hang while you wait for JD. At least you have good tunes on the radio, KOZT The Coast. My fav when I down there.
