..... that Ms. Gabbard will be serving for two weeks in Hawaii alongside members of the Indonesian Army.

Sure does seem convenient for the Camel and ByeDone, though......

@thanatokephaloides
Is there a debate coming up during the time she's supposed to be gone?

There are occasionally deaths during training exercises. Sure would be another convenient coincidence if something like that happened to her, especially how she is loathed by the corporate dems.

@Deja

during that time period. In fact, Tulsi has not met the DNC polling requirements to qualify for the next debate. I think that's the main campaign concern with regard to her absence during Reserve training. Their push now is to get her up in the polling.

@Centaurea
the polling window closes. I had thought she was already on duty last week. The timing is excruciatingly inconvenient.

@thanatokephaloides

The 2020 presidential candidate is stepping away from her campaign for two weeks on Monday and will set out for Indonesia, where she's reporting for active duty with the Hawaii Army National Guard. There she'll participate in a joint training exercise with the Indonesian army.

Not sure where you read she will be staying in Hawaii, but I read about this elsewhere last week. The reports have been consistent that she is going to Indonesia for two weeks. She could have opted out, but chose to go.

I personally don’t think it’s ‘stepping away’ from her campaign however. She’s been running on her status as an active duty soldier; I think going to a NG training reinforces that status and her commitment to the military.

It is not a coincidence - it was planned long ago - that's how it works when you are in the reserves - two week stint is normal. This is normal.

It's not normal for a presidential candidate.
At least I can't remember an instance.

I thought National Guard service required two weeks per year and one weekend per month. Has this changed? Guard people I have known always did a couple of weeks yearly, usually during the summers...

Reading the article in The Week reveals Gabbard stated that she chose NOT to ditch the duty: the congresswoman brushed off those concerns, emphasizing that she did not think of finding a way out of reporting for duty. "You know that's not what this is about," Gabbard said.

Every National Guard member is required to perform an annual 2-week training activation unless they request and receive an exemption. There's nothing "just been activated" about it since they're planned months in advance and there's nothing "coincidental" about it because it's a requirement of service.

How do I know this stuff? My 3 years active duty Army plus 3 years Michigan National Guard plus reading the article you linked.

What are they being trained to do?

There have been calls in the past to withhold such training "until Indonesia does more to address human rights abuses by its military" according to Willam Blum in his book America's Deadliest Export: Democracy.

Blum also writes:

Indonesian officials saying they're going to reform the military is like officials in Nevada saying they're going to crack down on gambling. For forty years, the Indonesian military has engaged in mass murder and other atrocities in Jakarta, East Timor, Aceh, Papua and elsewhere, taking the lives of well over a million people

Well, no problem then. Our military ought to feel right at ease. Maybe the Indonesian military is itching to learn some new tricks. Perhaps the Israelis can show up and give classes to everyone.

But in this case, fulfilling a required stint of military service when the House is in recess is probably a good idea.

@Benny @Benny She is fulfilling a commitment that precedes her elected office and presidential campaign. The NG is more political than the reserves or active duty since the state governor is the commander in chief unless a unit is called to active federal duty. They then fall under federal control through their unit chain of command.

I’m sure she could have ditched her responsibility like a certain fake cowboy from Texas who was Dick Cheney’s hand puppet for eight grim years. She didn’t. Good on her. It’s about time we stop accepting as a normal the privilege of influence and connections in high places to avoid responsibility.

It’s really time we stop having different standards based on whether we like or dislike a certain politician. Duty is duty. It is fulfilled or it isn’t. There is no gray or exception without diminishing its obligations. That bullshit is how the Ws, Cheneys, and their sordid like operated. It wasn’t right for them and it wouldn’t be right for someone like Tulsi. She knows it and isn’t playing. That should stand out to all of us because it is not normal in a very good way.

Tulsi Gabbard Has Enemies In High Places

How doing the right thing could be costing her everything.

IMG_3671.JPG

The two men in that email are some of the most connected and powerful men in the country, and they have a grudge against Tulsi Gabbard that they have held since the day she stepped down from the DNC. Now, it could be the reason for her constant battle against slanted coverage, media smear jobs, and marginalized publicity.

Ever since Gabbard announced her bid for the Presidency, she has been subject to the occasional, yet predictable hit-piece. It’s usually an intentionally misrepresented version of her meeting with Syrian president Bashar Al Assad on a diplomatic fact finding mission in 2017, and her subsequent public opposition to US involvement in the conflict . Most accounts of this story either minimalize or omit completely her also meeting with leaders on the other side of their Civil War, which when coupled with her reluctance to go to war there, is done to make her seem as an “apologist” for a man accused of atrocious humanitarian abuses. The apologist label is untrue, of course, as she has called him a “brutal dictator” and even called for his execution if he were to ever be convicted of war crimes by an international court. Anyone with access to the internet and the desire to be informed can find this information, if they’re willing to search for it. Many either can’t or won’t be bothered. Who has time to read anymore?

....
One phone call, one email, one Twitter DM — that’s all it would take for the most trusted brand handler and talent agent in the world to get his message on every cable news show. If that message is “candidate x is bad”, and it reaches 10’s of millions of people every single day, you will win the information war. People will believe it because it’s coming from multiple “reputable” sources. If ABC, CNN, and MSNBC are all reporting the same thing, it’s probably true, right? I mean, they’re competitors, and separate entities, there’s no way they could all be calling the same guy for advice, is there?

The email at face value looks like nothing more than a couple of disgruntled Democrat fundraisers being salty at Gabbard for not falling in line with the DNC and backing Clinton, and telling her they’re taking their money elsewhere. But it’s the names that matter here, and not only that, but their positions at the companies they work for. The email is written by Darnell Strom on behalf of himself and a man named Michael Kives. Both men, at the time were executives at a global talent representation firm — Creative Artists Agency, or CAA. Let’s start there.

Read on...

Here's an article that discusses what happened when Tulsi went to Syria and became an Assad apologist.

Tulsi Gabbard's Road To Damascus

There’s a good reason the presidential hopeful met with Assad, but the media doesn’t want to talk about it...

@snoopydawg
absolutely how the establishment elite are able to spread their narrative everywhere, while quietly stymieing the careers of anyone reluctant to play ball.

The movie X-Men: Apocalypse was on German TV the other night (commercial channel Pro 7) — I was amazed by the extent of establishment-narrative “product placement” shoe-horned into the script. Trope of heroic good: the CIA, because of course, who else. Trope of villainous bad: Auschwitz, because of course, what else.

@snoopydawg . Niko House, along with Sofia Zalvidar, referred to it in a somewhat jumbled video here:

He's young but well-meaning and very promising. Proof of TYT collaboration in Tulsi smears is highly significant within Indy journalism circles. The more we in the general public learn about the forces behind these coordinated smears and spread the news to others, the better. I appreciate the Scott Ritter article, too. Actually, I think you could have made a separate OP from all this material.

I was relieved to learn that she would be taking a break from it. Doubly nice that it's a "high road" detour, too. It will probably do her good just to get away. The corporate Dems are nastier than ever this time around; I think Tulsi's amazing audacity has shaken them up, and it's excellent that Bernie appears to have picked up on her sharp but politely pugnacious attitude.

These are merely training exercises, a two-week stint. AFAICS, She won't be out there pushing U.S. imperialism.
